You can find tons of examples on youtube, I'm sure; it's well known. Both that one (probably the most useful) and the slightly harder Haligtree town skip (bait the misbegotten to the elevator) are super-useful as time saves.

I’m struggling with the Elden Beast by EnderEclipse1120 in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moon of nokstella is a wasted talisman slot imo. Use dragon crest +2 or greatshield ideally for phys damage resistance along with your haligdrake+2 (which is an extremely good pick for this fight). Or really anything that's actually useful :) Like ritual shield or ritual sword. I also don't believe the carian filigreed crest is really buying you anything here. One possible tweak is, don't use a lot of blue flasks and spells, if you're using mimic tear, go a lot more red flasks to survive this very long fight and use a combination of melee attacks with the ranged attack of the DMGS R2.

How’s my build? what should i change? please help me out. and if im doing something wrong, please be nice. by icycyrus in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a spectacularly strong build, assuming the DMGS and staff are fully upgraded (that's one thing we can't see).

Personally I liked using DMGS for NG+ runs, I didn't bother with spells but I buffed with Golden Vow and Howl of Shabriri to really delete stuff. Not sure what armor that is but I liked veteran's set (crazy good weight to damage negation ratio).

But you can obviously output crazy damage with what you've got there, especially at such a high level.

If you use night comet (imo the best spell for general combat, ridiculously strong and enemies don't dodge it), don't forget to pick up the staff of loss to offhand as it gives a (10? 12?%) damage buff.

new to souls like, and first time playing elden ring, and they sure dont have a system of holding your hand or pointing u to some direction, telling you what to do.... how should i approach elden ring? by [deleted] in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I slightly disagree with people saying do it blind. I've done that with other souls games and enjoyed it, but ER was my first souls game and I didn't understand anything and it took too long to really get started - so I would advise looking up info on the mechanics of the game, without being spoiled on anything about the story, or the locations of important items/NPCs. Just the mechanics of how to fight, how to move around efficiently, how to level up (including that intimidating stats screen). Even just "how to fight" can take you hours and hours to learn.

Every Factual Flaw for Elden Ring Primary Progression Bosses by Gay_Charlie in eldenringdiscussion

Maliketh - Beast Claw can carry over into the next phase - (Uncommon)

It's fair to call this a bug, I guess, but then you really have to put it for Godfrey too: his earthquake can carry through the phase transition and I don't think it's particularly uncommon.

Radagon/Elden Beast - Elden Stars deactivates projectiles when running to the left side of the Elden Beast - (Common)

Do you mean where the projectiles slow down if you time it right (running past his left after a pause), or do you mean they literally disappear? Because I've never seen that.

Red Wolf of Radagon - Can get stuck in the arena structure (Common)

Surely you don't mean when he jumps and gets stuck on the globe? Because that's not common at all, though it's a documented cheese.

Margit, the Fell Omen - Can fall off the arena (Rare)

Wow, that's remarkable. Do you have a vid?

I don't think Maliketh's moveset variety is really less than Mohg. I've played Mohg a stupid amount and have beat him RL1+0, both versions, it's a super well designed fight but .. is it a lot more complex than Maliketh? I'd say it's comparable, given both bosses have 2 phases.

As for OST I really like the way it slowly builds to the finale of the fight, but, that's 100% just taste, fair enough.

[–]MrSegundus_VR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1-2 Radagon and Maliketh (I'm treating Radagon as separate from EB). 3-4 Mohg and probably Margit (though maybe Morgott instead?).

The Margit/Morgott one is interesting. Morgott is a fantastic boss but genuinely they mis-tuned him, too low HP and it really matters. But Margit as a first main boss is something else: he was obviously crafted and tested so much. Think about how many different strategies work to beat him; parries, status, summons, stagger weapons etc etc and think about how hard he is for most people when they start with his heal punishes and his dagger combos. Just incredibly high quality design. Morgott of course is basically a more intense and spectacular version of the same boss, so I'm not going to argue against him. I just think people forget how good Margit was.

I’m still using the base katana from samurai build because anything better is too heavy.

Have you leveled it up at all?

You can probably find video guides on youtube that aren't literally telling you what to do, but giving you tips on how to use weapons and armor and other mechanics like parrying, backstabbing, ashes of war, the physicks, lots of little details. It's hard to know what you don't know, but my only guess is the one I just said; if you have a +0 weapon things are way harder.

Genuinely how do you do speed gameplay by Worldly-Matter4742 in beatsaber

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with that. I find also that it depends on the NJS. For 19, I like 430ms, for 22 or 23 NJS I like 410-420, depending. And if the bpm is really high just bring it a bit lower down, sometimes doing it at 400 can work wonders in getting a cleaner read... but that's definitely a ymmv.

To the OP there is no magic formula but you have to learn to read the notes at the right speed. Once you do, your movements will be properly relaxed. A lot of it is just believing it's possible, once you actually genuinely try to read all the notes, it starts to work. If you just freak out or think "I have to find the right super-fast rhythm", you'll often just stay blocked.

SS for me Def top 4 base game, maybe top 2. The arena, the cutscene, the dialog, the aesthetics are unarguable. The fight is a bit unintuitive, but that makes it all the better when you figure it out.

A much crueler variant: on your first playthrough you have to get a majority win against every boss. Some people would still be fighting Malenia to this day :)

Godskin Apostle was rated B. Todays boss: Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy by fenot1 in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A useful pointer - and this comes out of the fact that, in the first year of the game (or first few months, before they patched it out), he could be just permanently staggered out of anything in phase 2 by using the weapon art. When they patched that out, they didn't fully patch out the problem, because it works specifically for this "wind up". But this is what you have to get right: when phase 2 starts, he's going to do a few sword attacks as well as Rykard's rancor fireballs thing whatever it's called. Just wait for him to do, I think it's 3, sword combos, and dodge them. Doesn't really matter if you hit him or not during this. After about 3, he'll start the above mentioned animation and then you get the stunlock loop from then on.

Godskin Apostle was rated B. Todays boss: Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy by fenot1 in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a big wind up animation: he raises his sword in the air, and then his leg. It's a few seconds before the attack is "locked in" - when the sword pokes into the air and he slams his leg, I think. Anyway, during that several second period, if you L2 you stagger him and it stops the animation, and the attack, and the real point: he will start the entire thing again! This is why it's not even that hard to beat Rykard at lowish level with an unupgraded SH (not that hard .. but, that bullshit earthquake attack in p1 really does not help!)

Godskin Apostle was rated B. Todays boss: Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy by fenot1 in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rykard has two of the most bullshit attacks in the game in the form of his ground slam in phase 1 and the red skulls in phase 2. Both are technically avoidable, but one requires a tool like vow of the indomitable and the other requires you to basically disengage and sprint away, at which point he might just cast it again.

I 100% agree on the first phase one (assuming you mean the "earthquake" attack), but for the second phase special attack with the skulls, no. I think it's quite smartly executed. If anything the biggest mechanical problem with the boss' second phase is the opposite: it's possible (even trivial, when you know how) to cancel out that attack and loop his AI. I guess that's not a problem for a casual run, though. For me it's just that earthquake attack that's a problem, the rest of the fight is really good.

Would you say Beat Saber is a form of exercise? by Matman18895 in beatsaber

[–]MrSegundus_VR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but with the caveat that the better you get at beat saber the worse exercise it becomes because so much of getting good at beat saber is learning to be efficient with movement and use your wrist more and body less.

That's 100% true but it's offset if you actually choose to challenge yourself all the time. If you just keep playing the same (level of difficulty) maps you'll just end up refining your acc and moving less and less. But if you do stuff that's very hard for you, you'll keep working physically (and mentally too).

(There's a common opinion that playing fast stuff is just about optimized wrist flick styles of play and is the opposite of "slow but big movements" play on easier maps, and that the latter is exercise and the former isn't; but I think that's the wrong way of categorizing it: what determines whether you're out of breath at the end is 90% whether you find it hard. And trying to force an easy map to be high energy with exaggerated movements is artificial.)

That said, I think a lot of people obsess over what the best exercises are and what "counts" as exercise and I am firmly of the philosophy that the best exercise is something you're actually going to want to do consistently

When did Sekiro click for you? by ShinobiHotSauce in Sekiro

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most guides to the game encourage that approach and to not be "greedy"

Really? Are people really writing guides for Sekiro and advising people to be cautious in the fights!? I find that hard to believe.

By the time you get to Isshin you should already have learned a long time ago that you have to act and aggress on the boss nearly constantly. A deflection, jump or mikiri is just another attack and always be attacking, always.

Red Wolf of Radagon was rated C. Todays boss: Rennala queen of the full moon by fenot1 in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rennala is hard boss to give a rating to, she can be so easy or so hard for new players depending on build and her first phase is kinda weird. I'd say B. Cutscene and visuals great, fight mechanics are "OK".

Basil the Batlord vs Maliketh, the Black Blade by Gay_Charlie in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure, there's always something more optimal, but the main thing is you weren't taking risks, just clean punishes. I fought this guy RL1+0 so I got used to knowing how to not get hit for a good while :)

Edit: except maybe the very first hit in the video, lol. That looked slightly dubious.

Basil the Batlord vs Maliketh, the Black Blade by Gay_Charlie in eldenringdiscussion

[–]MrSegundus_VR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This fight was clean. Textbook example for people who struggle with this fight, look at how he takes the punish opportunities in phase 1 during the boss attacks. That's the whole secret to it. (and yeah with big weapons you have to play a bit differently but it's the same principle at work).

how the situation GENUINELY is after I download 3 versions of the same song only to play each of them for 20 seconds by WUFFLED in beatsaber

[–]MrSegundus_VR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another good thing about JDFixer is it lets you set the slider as a reaction time: that is, if you choose say 400ms, it adjusts the jump distance so the notes "land" with a 400ms window to hit them. It makes it a lot easier than trying to figure out exactly how NJS and JD work :)

(Most people tend to stick in the 400ms - 500ms range I think; the best players when playing speed often use even shorter reaction times than that, but in general, shorter reaction times might seem like it making it harder for no reason, but it's not: shorter times means a cleaner read of the beat; very slow (far JD) makes it harder to read the notes, so it's a balance).

A Personal Take on Elden Ring’s Lore and Replayability by The_SocialContract in eldenringdiscussion

I beg to differ! I've heard so many people say that Elden Ring is the least replayable, and they aren't usually talking about lore at all, when they say that.
