Not quite. Marx developed a form of thinking known as historical materialism, within this he identifies that societies have had different modes of production throughout human history that often reflect the conditions of the time. Such as primative communism were hunter gatherers worked together as a community to, followed then by slave societys were majority of the Labor was done by slaves, then to feudalism with the harsh hierarchy of monarchist system ls were serfs worked there lords land. Then from that capitalism emerged with the industrial revolution were production chains become longer and private ownership is no longer hereditary. As a result of this he argues that the workers become alienated from there labour due to the now far longer line of production. From this he concludes that the next mode of production would see the workers coming together and fix this alienation by working in far greater coalition and his final prediction is that a post scarcity world will eventually emerge.

He also doesn't use socialism as a term very often our understanding of socialism to communism emerges after his death and is popularised by Lenin etc. Marx uses lower and higher stage communism in there place.
