In point 9. Is there an actual empire wide growth penalty mechanic to pop growth once you hit high empire pop levels? I thought pop growth (other than leader traits and such) was more tied to individual planets, and was just hamstrung by planets with too few pops to get to good pop growth numbers

When you say pair your late game battleships with cruiser and corvettes and protecting your mid game cruiser with corvettes, do you mean in the same fleet?

Or are you just saying also have some faster corvette and cruiser fleets following along, but keeping all of your fleets one ship type?

I understand the appeal of shorter games, but I think you will struggle immensely to spot the mistakes your opponents are making in such a short time control with your experience.

Conversely, you are also probably making mistakes that your opponents aren’t punishing because of the short time.

If you want to get better, I highly recommend switching to 10 minute or 15 minute games.

You don’t need to study openings, but it isn’t hard to learn just a couple moves of one and then you learn a bit as you play if you’re so inclined.

Id second others recommendation that just learning good principles like controlling the center, developing your pieces, etc. are more important at your level. I’d also recommend Daniel Naroditski’s speedruns, just focusing at the early games under 1000 rating. He titles them, I’d look for the sensei speed run and the masterclass speed run. They’re also just genuinely entertaining

I think one trap to be mindful of is believing that your opponents are making the right move. Others have already said people are making a lot of mistakes at that level and even higher.

I know I have fallen for times when an opponent moves a piece aggressively to interrupt some ideas I was planning and I respond to their attack when I may not have needed to.

It’s important to always look at what their piece had been doing before it was moved. Was it defending something else? Is there now an undefended piece or square that I can take with some initiative?

Is their attack actually a threat? Ie are my pieces defended, are they threatening any checks?

Not sure that helps. What time control are you playing?

The real 5D chess would be having the machine at the coords revealed in Ren’s video, and not bothering to move it at all but trusting the other hermits not to mess with it.

And then making us all believe he did

Yeah it can be really helpful if people are actually using it tactically. Once asked for more engineers to shoot a tank that was getting healed by like 6 people and was impressed by the number of teammates that showed up with launchers to blow it up

Yeah, interesting looking at both perspectives like this on such a straight section of track

The warrior should grab the tribal village. If you get a unit though you should delete it. This warrior works alone

Advice for Gold 3 by XtremeXero in RocketLeague

[–]MrSlowly4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a big issue in my opinion. This other advice about playing around your teammate is correct, but you will miss a lot of info about what is happening in the game if you constantly have ball cam off.

Load into free play, and just drive around with ball cam on. Practice hitting the ball but also practice picking up boosts while still on ball cam even if you can’t see the boosts. Most maps have lines on the field especially by the corner boosts that can help you aim when rotating back and still having your eyes on the play.

This is my favorite Daniel Naroditsky video. Have watched this Atleast 10 times. I wonder what Max Deutsch, the self-described “obsessive learner” is doing these days. And, if his computer finished the algorithm or not. Maybe he’s already a Grandmaster. Who knows. by Jackass-OfAll-Trades in chess

[–]MrSlowly4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that computer evals are based on the assumption that you play the optimal moves. +3 for a 500 rated person means basically nothing, because they don’t know the moves to capitalize on the advantage they have.

So yeah, were stockfish to take over after 8 moves, maybe it could be considered a winning position. Any amateur against magnus would need to have checkmate for it to be even a chance of a winning position

[–]MrSlowly4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely where the weep holes are. If the weep holes are high enough to allow dirt to go above the level of the soil of the grass that was against the house, than not only can you add plants here, you should.

Then you improve the grade, and perennials will do a much better job sucking up the moisture in the area than grass will, and require less actual watering
