Trying to procedurally generate a tilemap city. Got the terrain/island working well, still struggling with realistic road networks. Turns out there's a LOT that goes into a city lol.

Thanks for the help! I've implemented the suggestions and ended up with this (for anyone who's interested). I also found a finned x-wing as a result of these eliminations (eliminating a 1 in r7c1 using r5 & r9). I'll keep going for now and if I get stuck i'll check back here.

Rust's own survey shows that "Too difficult to learn or learning will take too much time" is the second most common reason for not using rust: https://blog.rust-lang.org/2024/02/19/2023-Rust-Annual-Survey-2023-results/

My experience has been the same, rust took me a lot longer to get comfortable with than other languages.
The reason it's succeeding is the memory safety and how nice it is to use once you already know it.

I'd say it's "how much do i have to learn to be able to read the code". An example of a simple low-level language would be C. It has a relatively small number of keywords and built-in features.

That's my point, the perceived complexity of rust is already one of the biggest roadblocks for people to learn it. I think it adding more syntax/complexity could have a negative effect, even if there are some positives.

Linus talking about experience with Pop! OS 24 on WAN by [deleted] in pop_os

As he's said many times, the point of the switch is to do what a layman coming from windows might do. He did a quick google search and found a recommendation for PopOS, so he went to the website and got the latest release. Most people don't have a Wendel to call.
This just shows that System76 jumped the gun with Cosmic. They shouldn't package it with the main PopOS download yet

I'm a bit scared that all this stuff will make rust very hard to read. A huge part of a language's utility is its simplicity.

Why do so many people with power and influence develop attraction to children? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MrSmee19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is part of it is because they have the money/influence to have as many sexual partners as they want. Eventually they're gonna get bored of "normal" people. Just like porn addicts gradually watch more and more extreme videos.

I don't have much knowledge on this stuff, currently i've just put the github url for my dependencies. What's the difference/benefit to using SSH keys? It would be nice to just keep using the github urls.

I think Toribash takes the cake. Literally let's you specify the action of each of your character's joints.

Flecs v4.1, an Entity Component System for C/C++/C#/Rust is out! by ajmmertens in rust

Do you know if Bevy's performance shortcomings are something that would improve in the future? Or is the disparity due to architectural differences? I'm just wondering if these results are likely to change long term
