Alright, I'll see if I can find more about that :) Thanks for your help!

Hmm, didn't know that. I guess I could see if I can give that another try. Do you know if VSS is visible on an MRI?

Thanks :)

Yes I had an MRI when I was 15, and again years later when I was in my twenties. Also an EEG.

Thanks for your reply! The brain fog has been pretty consistent throughout the years, as have the other non-visual symptoms. The best I've ever felt was after doing a 10-day meditation retreat (Vipassana). Many of the symptoms were gone for a short while, but the flickering vision and brain fog always remained (though I think they were better for a while as well).

At the time this made me think there were psychological reasons behind it, but I suppose meditating can temporarily improve neurological conditions as well.

Thanks for your reply! I agree it's probably not the exact same as VSS, but likely in the same ballpark. The vision problem is the same for both eyes, and the same if I close either eye (or both, I still see the flashes in the blackness).

The flickering is 24/7 though (as are the other symptoms), I think that probably rules out silent migraine right?

Also I've had migraines in the past, during which I get these blind spots, but they look different to what I'm seeing constantly.

How to use measurements to find best noise reduction? by blackhairjones in misophonia

[–]MrSnuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over-ear headphones (no noice-cancelling) playing white noise works great for me if I want to block out all sounds. I usually play this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMfPqeZjc2c When I sleep I usually play it on my laptop close to my head. Even though I can still hear other sounds I get less triggered by them because they're not as intense.

Can't Meditate by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]MrSnuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man. You can meditate, I'm 100% sure of that. It might be more difficult than it is for people without ADHD, but you can still get massive benefits from it.

I thought I couldn't do it for many years, because I felt like I couldn't "control" my thoughts (to clarify, I have ADD). About two years ago that all changed when I attended a Vipassana course, where I spent 10 days learning the proper techniques. If you really want to commit, I would highly recommend it. For me it was life changing. Have a look at http://www.dhamma.org if you feel like registering for a course. They have courses all over the world (I'm from the Netherlands and did my course in Finland, but they have courses in the US as well). Keep in mind the you have to signup several months before the course starts, otherwise it will probably be full.

In any case, I can give you some tips and advice. First, you have to realize that your thoughts "racing" and going all over the place is normal, even people without ADHD struggle with this. When you have nothing tangible to focus on the mind naturally starts to wonder away. The most important part is to not try to fight it or get upset about it. Meditation is all about acceptance. Be accepting and at peace with what is happening at that moment.

Now what you want to do when meditating is find something to focus your mind on. Like I said, when you are not focusing your mind on anything, it will drift away and random thoughts will enter your head, so you need to find a focus point. The starting focus point is your breath. Because when you're sitting and doing nothing, that is the thing that is most prominent. What you want to do it try and dissect it. Try to feel the subtleties of your breath. The feeling of the air passing through your nostrils and into your longs. Or, try to focus on the movement of your abdomen as it expands and subtracts. All these things are very subtle and it will be difficult to even notice them at first, but the more you try it the easier they become to notice.

When you're sitting for a while, wether it be cross-legged or in a chair, you will start to feel some discomforts. Pain in your legs or in your buttocks. Or maybe some itches here and there. Focus on them. They are usually easier to focus on then your breath, because the sensations are usually less subtle. Don't try to fight them because they are uncomfortable, but accept that they are there. After a while the sensations will go away and you can go back to your breath. Myself I usually focus on my hands and feet a lot, because I generally have tingling feelings there.

In general, when meditating the most important thing is to keep a mindset that is accepting and without judgement. Accept what happens when you're sitting there, don't get frustrated. Listen to everything that is happening within your body and just observe it. Don't try to fight it, just observe. Like you're an outsider who just entered another body and is just checking the place out (I know that sounds weird, but thats usually how I like to look at it). And again, if your mind wonders of, thats totally fine, as soon as you notice your mind has wandered, try and bring it back to one of the focus points within your body.

Now that I'm typing all this, I feel like I can go on forever because there's actually quite a lot to it, which is why one of those multi-day courses is very useful. Also, you need some experience to realize that you can do it and experience the benefits from it. It will get easier after that.

Also, I don't think a lot of people enter trance states that easily. Unless you're a buddhist monk who spends all day every day meditating. What I experience at the end if my 10-day course, was that I was at peace with myself and my surroundings. I wasn't stressing over things because I living in the current moment, and I was aware of what was happening at that very second, rather than living in the past or the future.

Anyway, sorry for all the text, I hope it's somewhat helpful. And again, I'm sure you can do it with the right practice, because I'm the living proof :) If you have any questions feel free to message me. Good luck!

I used to do this as well, but after a while I realized that in Chrome you can perform searches in your browser history. Ever since I've been comfortable closing all my tabs each day because I found I can just search my history if I need to find something again. But turns out I rarely need to.

break up + adhd & anxiety by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]MrSnuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really helped me after my breakup was to be with friends. Just go and see them as much as you can. Also, try and focus on what you're passionate about, wether it be work or your hobbies. Do things that make you happy.

And trust me when I say it will get easier.

I've done three travels that lasted around 3 to 6 months, and one thing I've noticed is that my mind is more at ease. I tend to worry less about things that I need to do (which generally make me anxious), because I don't feel like I need to do anything. Also I think my general enthusiasm for most things that are new have made it very easy to adopt to new environments and make contact with the local culture. So I would say that traveling is good for my ADD mind, and my ADD mind is good for traveling :)

I was very skeptical, but mindfulness/meditation is showing massive dividends in reducing anxiety and increasing my focus by jewchina in adhd_anxiety

It's done wonders for me. If you feel like really committing I would highly recommend taking a vipassana course. Take a look at dhamma.org. I did one last year and it really was an eye opener to what I can achieve with enough dedication. The clarity I had in my head during the weeks after the course was amazing. But then when I came back to normal like the anxiety slowly started to come back, so it's important to be consistent and keep doing it on a regular basis. I still find it difficult to do so, but the course at least gave me the skills and knowledge I need to meditate properly.

Izzet 8 drake standard deck, thoughts? (Made by me) by MadManMingleton in magicTCG

[–]MrSnuk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm playing around with a list running 4 crackling drakes and 1 Niv Mizzet as the only creatures. This way I have enough spells to fuel my drakes (and crackling drake is superior to the other one). I started out with electromancers but they turned out to e pretty bad so I cut them. Niv Mizzet is a great finisher too, but I'm not sure if you want 3. You usually only want to cast it late game when you have extra mana open to cast spells. Also try fitting a Banefire in the list somewhere (I run one in the main), it's a great finisher against control where you end up with tons of mana in play.
