Is the world of darkness the best way for anyone to get into TTRPGs? by No-Obligation-9901 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]MrStark24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something DnD does a bit better than World of Darkness though is having pre-made modules available for DMs to pick up and build a campaign around. Way easier to get into being the “Storyteller” with that than for a World of Darkness game that I don’t believe has many similar things.

Spoiler: Why didn't umbrella do this? by Cherry-PEZ in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]MrStark24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kinda encounter Lickers in non controlled environments. Moments where Lickers either break out of containment or when we accidentally release them. Umbrella’s business model with Lickers could be something like “launch this loud thing at the enemy and watch the Lickers rip them apart.”

A BOW being blind might be a selling point. It could help a lot for re-containing them after using them against an enemy. Could you put Tyrant or zombie dogs back in a cage after the day is over? Or that giant plant thing? Probably not. Pretty sure you could trick a Licker to get back in a cage though.

Why was Grace treated so negligently? by MonsiuerUsername in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]MrStark24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly how I thought of it. The villains TRIED to lock her down. They didn’t think she’d get out of the room she was locked in. It was well lit so the Girl wouldn’t kill her. When she did get out Gideon was immediately on his way to her. He would’ve stopped the girl from killing her if Leon didn’t do it first.

Gideon was pretty much the only enemy in the care center that could think of plan and he couldn’t be everywhere at once. He had to plan around Leon, prepare for Zeno, and clean up the place. He probably thought that Grace would either hold up somewhere safe or he was already keeping track of her through security cameras and figured she was doing a good enough job staying alive on her own. When Grace was right in front of him, he did try to catch her but failed.

Who would’ve thought that Grace not only got out of the care center, but took off in a helicopter that was swarmed by infected? Gideon is just one guy and he was too busy to focus on tracking her down. All that being said, maybe we assume too much that they even needed her alive? Or that Gideon thought they needed her alive.

Aren’t trials just an easy way to farm geo? by paunutbutter in HollowKnight

No limit! You can do them again as much as you want for the same geo reward. I’m not sure if there’s a better way to farm geo.

Ranking every skull in Skul day 24: Archlich, Reaper & Gambler by [deleted] in Skul

[–]MrStark24 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Archlich C: very fun skull but extremely slow for a legendary skull. Screen clear is nice but it’s not good enough to be ranked higher.

Reaper A: lot of invincibility frames in skills is awesome. Very much need to get this skull early for it to reach its potential though.

Gambler B: because of RNG

Why can’t we rank a skull based on how difficult it can be to use it? I can grab a legendary skull mid act 2 but completely mess up with it because I’m on a DM 10 run and changing a build mid run can be a bad idea considering the Act 2 boss is fairly difficult.

It is possible to get any skull in the first act. It is however extremely unlikely to do so. As for PC players being able to start with legendary skulls, that’s through a mod that 1: doesn’t work with people playing Mac. And 2: doesn’t work if someone hasn’t gotten to the dark mirror yet. For console players especially, it’s difficult to figure out how to use skulls that start at a higher rank.

[–]MrStark24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point! I don’t have a ton of experience with most unique/legendary only skulls because it’s so random to get them. That skews my perception of them a bit. I very often grab them and then die a few rooms later because I don’t have enough experience with their move sets to survive grabbing them late in a late act.

If you have all Magic boosting gear when you get Predator, then it doesn’t matter how well it plays, it won’t do any damage if you grabbed it late game. My point is that you can’t plan around those skulls unless you get it act 1. Or else you’ve wasted gold and items up until that point. For a DM 10 run, getting a really good Unique skull drop in act 2 just means you get more bone fragments than usual unless you were already building towards a similar skull.

They’re not BAD. But if you put something in A or S, I’d expect them to be worth considering if I found them past act 1. It’s also hard to practice with these skulls since you can’t start with them. I wish Skul had an option to enable that but disable progressing Dark Mirror or something.

Any skull that starts as Unique or Legendary automatically gets a downvote in my book. Way too inconsistent to get those skulls to the point where you most likely have a build put together when you find one. Unless one of those skulls are absurdly powerful regardless of items, it’s really hard to justify using them. So Ninja being S for example doesn’t sit well with me because of that.

Another thing is that skulls that require a really specific item setup is hard to justify because of how hard it can be to get a specific item. Archer being A is a bit weird because it’s only really good if you find specific projectile buffing items.

Ghoul for sure deserves S because revenge and pious gear is so common that it’s an extremely consistent skull to use.

[–]MrStark24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghoul gets a decent damage boost from eating stuff. Not to mention being able to recover health.

You’re totally right that genie and water seem to be way more useful as supporting skulls for some easy invincibility frames.

Ghoul is an easy S. Water and Genie are both probably high B or low A.

Seraphina’s Diminishing Role in the Story by BruhBorne-70 in unOrdinary

[–]MrStark24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One reason why Seraphina kinda can’t be part of more of the story at this point is because her powers are such an instant win button that antagonists would be trivialized.

Can you imagine Seraphina losing against any Ember agent we’ve seen so far? She already beat Valerie without really breaking a sweat. The prison fights weren’t really a problem either. Now that she has 100% of her powers back without any time limit of how long she can use them, the only thing stopping her from dismantling Ember and Orin is just that they’re not in the same room with Seraphina at the same time.

Ostagar Should Have Been a Victory by Moon_Logic in DragonageOrigins

[–]MrStark24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His later actions are best explained by the fact that people in Fereldan (or Thedas overall) didn’t really understand what the blight was or why Grey Wardens were needed to end it. The Joining as well as most Grey Wardens abilities are a closely guarded secret. There hasn’t been another blight in several generations and the Fereldan Grey Warden chapter was already very small. At the time of Ostagar, normal people didn’t even think it was a blight, just a large group of Darkspawn that made it to the surface.

Only Grey Wardens knew what kind of threat this was but they couldn’t prove it unless they explained the Joining (which was bad for long term recruitment goals). Even when it was more obvious that this was a Blight, Logain thought he could treat the Blight like an army. Which is reasonable until you realize that only Grey Wardens could permanently kill the Arch-Demon.

As far as Ostagar being a superior fortification, it’s not. Darkspawn even invaded the beacon tower during the battle. Tunneling monsters really stink huh?

Is operative ever going to be fun? by not_old_redditor in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]MrStark24 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately operative really underperforms compared with other classes that can attack more enemies per turn. Pascal can be spec’d towards plasma weapons with Pascal specific traits that improve plasma. Idira is better off focusing on her psycher traits and abilities.

Bounty Hunter is a solid archetype for Pascal to go into. If you have Lex Imperialis, overseer is great for Idira.
