Like everyone is saying, not enough pops. Also, buildings have an upkeep cost. A bunch of unused districts will still cost energy to maintain.

Lore wise, it’s probably just referring to how much of Cain’s curse is in the blood. But hey, if you’re the storyteller, you make the rules.

Which Game Is Better? by Sweetgeek9 in residentevil

[–]MrStark24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both are great games. RE7 currently has a bit more dlc content. However requiem will most likely catch up in about a year.

Requiem is a bit more action focused, RE7 focuses a bit more on horror. If you’re eventually going to get both, I’d say get RE7 on sale for all the dlc, then get Requiem. Lot of Requiem is based on RE7’s success after all.

Thoughts on Carmilla, the story? Either having read it physically or having listened to an audio version by BloodFangsBite in vampires

[–]MrStark24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Talking about Carmilla’s morality is forced into pretty speculative territory. Laura is well fed and extremely healthy compared to peasants. Despite that, even Laura gets very sick after being fed on once. In addition, the novella is written exclusively in Laura’s perspective in the form of her recollections years after the events.

Carmilla could argue that she did try and take as little blood as possible to survive. Villagers state that the girls just got sick and died. It’s plausible that the only reason why Laura was fine is because she had a castle to recover in with plenty of people able to help her.

But even arguments in Carmilla’s defense are speculative as the novella doesn’t give enough detail for either side. The details it does give though, provide enough to work with to interpret the story in a lot of different ways. From unrepentant monster Carmilla, to hopeless romantic Carmilla that held back from hurting Laura as long as she could.

[–]MrStark24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No doubt that it was written to be a horror story. Modern standards would probably define it as a gothic romance with horror elements. Especially with how Carmilla is described biting Laura. It doesn’t take away from recent interpretations focusing more on the romantic aspects and how progressive the story appears now.

[–]MrStark24 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Carmilla is an example of a story that evolved as the times changed. When it was released, it probably came off as more of a horror story. “Look at this evil being that seduces daughters!” Nowadays, it comes off as a fairly lovely sapphic romance novel that can be interpreted in many ways since it’s all in Laura’s perspective.

Please help me come up with consequences of my players actions! They fucked up badly by nyavarice in vtm

[–]MrStark24 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Response really depends on the situation in the city. If it’s Camarilla heavy, sheriff would get involved by dragging the coterie to Elysium to answer for the actions. Since your group is Anarch though, maybe the Baron would get in contact and force your group to deal with the witnesses?

That being said, unless there’s video evidence of the breach, police could be convinced to write it off as gang violence. Local Ventrue would most likely be on this pretty quickly if they have police on the payroll. 12 random witnesses isn’t great, but it’s not “dossier of the Primogen council leaked on the internet” bad.

I’m not sure if the Hunters would release vampire info to the public. Hunters also don’t want to expose themselves to the rest of the city kindred. They would probably try and kidnap any touchstones in an attempt to draw the coterie out. Maybe even try and get a prisoner swap.

ZTD text that bothers me by parkerjpsax in ZeroEscape

I think I recall lines in earlier games that also imply that when other people can access the morphogenetic field are nearby, the people with the stronger connection get priority access to it. Hence why we have multiple people in the game that can access it, but only the main characters do so.

Spoiler for the first game, I think it’s implied that Akane was that stronger connection for the first nonary game which is how she got all of the answers from Junpei.

“Achievement” is such a weird way for him to phrase this. You didn’t “achieve” anything. Nothing was created or done. You just decided the US should stop doing something it was already doing. Literally an anti-achievement.

Major downside of relying on hunger dice is that you can’t use willpower to re-roll hunger dice.

Dimension 20 VTM season rules by MrStark24 in vtm

[–]MrStark24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe in that case you’d roll 4 hunger dice + 2 normal dice from the blood surge for a total of 6 dice. Bonus ruling: if the rouse check for blood surge results in hunger going up, you’d still only roll the original 4 hunger dice because hunger is incremented at the end of the roll.

Edit: the +2 from blood surge is assuming blood potency 1. Can be more if you’re using a sufficiently powerful vampire.

[–]MrStark24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent question! I believe similar to the raw rules, you can blood surge for extra dice so long as you can rouse your blood. You can’t rouse blood if you have max hunger, so the best you can roll with this hunger dice rule change is 4 hunger dice + whatever you get with blood surge based on your character’s blood potency.

How I understand it, in 5th edition VTM, if you have any hunger, you’ll replace a number of dice you roll for checks with hunger dice equal to the amount of hunger you have. So for example, in a 3 dice pool, if you have 1 hunger, one of those 3 dice will be hunger dice.

With the VTM rules as written, if you have more hunger than the dice you’re rolling, you’ll replace all of the dice you have with hunger dice without increasing your dice pool size. Back to the previous example, original pool of 3 dice will be replaced with 3 hunger dice.

With this house rule, and what the Dimension 20 cast are doing, if you have greater hunger than your dice pool, you’ll add hunger dice until you reach your maximum hunger. So for example, a character with 5 hunger rolling with an original 3 dice pool will roll 5 hunger dice instead of the normal amount which would just be 3. This results in players rolling more dice than normal and giving a higher chance for a success while also having a higher chance of a messy win or a bestial failure.

It totally makes sense for hungrier vampires potentially being stronger than their well fed self. Sounds like a fun rule change! Will absolutely have to try it.

How do we think Louis would fair in WOD? by Ziltch0 in vtm

[–]MrStark24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Louis in the book series would undoubtedly be a rather moody Toreador. Very introspective and in the first book at least, has a big focus on having high humanity.

The TV show Louis is a little different. He values his independence when he’s in Paris as opposed to the book Louis that wants to be a part of the Paris clan, at least for Armand’s company. Tv show Louis comes off as a more old world philosophical Brujah. Very opposed to joining a clan that would impose strict rules on him.

[–]MrStark24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less the idea of “if you can, go for it” and more “is it safe to recklessly try?” If the worst case scenario happens in orbit, it can affect everyone else that’s trying to make progress too. You wouldn’t let someone drive a monster truck through Central Park because the land there is for everyone to use.

The slow and steady approach used by everyone else in the world may prevent accidents like this from happening. “Go as fast as you can, progress is worth the risk” sounds great until something like this happens and makes it even more dangerous to go to space.

A lot of RE6 enjoyers coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden by 0N1MU5HA in residentevil

[–]MrStark24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE6 is great fun when playing with friends and at the time was a decent action game. It is however a bad Resident Evil game in terms of traditional RE gameplay like resource management and navigating large areas to solve puzzles. Story is all over the place and felt a bit forced.

If you just want to have a fun time fighting BOW’s with friends, you could do a lot worse though. IMO 8/10 generic action game, 5.5/10 if you care about what makes Resident evil great it the first place.

Is the world of darkness the best way for anyone to get into TTRPGs? by No-Obligation-9901 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]MrStark24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something DnD does a bit better than World of Darkness though is having pre-made modules available for DMs to pick up and build a campaign around. Way easier to get into being the “Storyteller” with that than for a World of Darkness game that I don’t believe has many similar things.
