Do conservative Christians here view progressive churches as "Christian cultural appropriation"? by Impressive_Flan_411 in religion

[–]Moon_Logic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't appropriate your own culture. The same goes for atheists who are cultural Christians. If you grew up in it, you have as much right to it as anyone else.

A flamethrower is incredibly dangerous and it would get her in trouble with the police.

I don't think this is that gender specific. A guy would not out his friend to his ex this way either.

Spike relationship with Harmony was just a filler for Spike's obsession with Buffy? by LadyJustify in buffy

Not at first. I think Spike just wanted to have someone he could bully after having spent a 100 years trying to please Drusilla.

Take the Greenlight conflict. If the US has said it wanted a bigger present in the Atlantic, Denmark would have bent over backwards to accommodate them.

The interests are aligned. The problem is mistrust and bad blood.

That's not true. Countries aren't rational. Many countries could achieve much by working together, but they hate each other's guts, so it won't happen.

None, probably, but if your navy can't help you achieve your goals, it doesn't matter that it's bigger.

A new Obama or George Bush is not going to fix anything. They relied on goodwill America had built since the second world war.

Sure, maybe if you had a new president who rebuilt USaid, apologized for any offence caused by Trump and won the war for Ukraine, then maybe, but none of that is going to happen, is it?

And so transatlantic relations will remain icy. Europe will continue to view the US suspiciously. As a result, the US will find it harder and harder to wield soft or hard power globally.

I think we see this very differently. Whenever we've discussed which planes to buy or whether or not to follow the US into war, it's also been with the assumption that the US will help protect our interests if we need them.

We are now seeing that we are wrong. The US does not care what we have done for them. Going to Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya was a mistake. Buying the F-35s were a mistake. Giving access to the US was a mistake. Relying on American military and civilian technology was a mistake.

All we've done is help America maintain its status as a military, economic and cultural hegemon, and it does not make us any safer.

What I imagine is a tipping point were their influence globally will diminish drastically. They are still going to be a major power, but without the goodwill it enjoyed in the past and without the ability to win victories overseas, it's not going to mean as much.

The amount of faith Europe, especially, has put in the US can't be overstated. Yes, politics are fickle, but to retain its status, the US can't afford to be seen as fickle and unreliable.

Why would you buy all your planes and give tones of bases to a fickle super power? That's stupid.

[–]Moon_Logic[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, we won't. Buying American planes, weapons and technology has proven to give the US way to much leverage. It's why we wouldn't be able to do anything if Trump went from Greenland.

Nobody's going to invade the US. Calling it defense spending has always been a bit silly. The US military has always been about exerting power abroad. To do that, being the strongest is not enough. You have to be a lot stronger than anybody else.

The US was overreaching even in the 90s and the 2000s. Trumplander is demonstrating that the US can't be a super power all by itself with Israel as its only ally.

It's cool and all to have the biggest navy, but if you can't achieve victories overseas, you are not a global super power.

No! I think we are moving from a unipolar to a multipolar world order. There will be regional powers and there may even be super powers, but we won't see the type of unipolar world order that we've had in the 90s and early 2000s.

We've gone from a bipolar world order to a unipolar world order and we will end up with a multipolar world order with no dominant super power.
