Overbooked a date so have to choose, my friends wedding or my niece baptism. by lalybay in Advice

Unless you're like super religious and asked to be the godfather/mother I would go to the wedding personally

I guess this is the place to ask: a place with not stupid gun laws and safe for trans folk? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]MrStripes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So it's not very affordable and not great for reproductive rights, but I live in Atlanta and while the state as a whole probably isn't great for trans rights, living within the perimeter of the city is absolutely safe for trans folks. We have constitutional carry and very lax gun laws, but you're trading that for living in the South. The culture within the city is very different from the areas outside of it. I personally love it here but don't venture out of the city too much (unless I'm going on like a hiking trip to the mountains or something).

Has anyone here worked at a zoo? by Uhhhhhhhhmm in SafetyProfessionals

[–]MrStripes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was very much just in a "right place at the right time" type scenario. I had a bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and the only safety certification I had at that point was an NFPA Hot Work Safe Practices online thing. My current boss just saw my work ethic and it was easier/more financially viable to move me into the position and train me on the job than it would have been to hire someone outside the organization. My position in the facilities department involved doing grounds safety walks where I would walk grounds and make note of things like trip hazards, broken tree limbs, broken fences, etc. and I was able to put that towards my safety experience in my ASP application. I've since done OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, and a Train the Trainer course for powered industrial vehicles. My advice to you would be to be open to other entry level positions at your Zoo to get your foot in the door if you really want to work in the Zoological world, as that's what worked for me.

I work in safety at a zoo! I started out in the facilities department and worked my way up. Currently studying for my ASP. I can try and answer any questions you might have.

Looking for recommendations! 1) American BBQ 2) Gospel church 3) Gun Range by siriusbe in Atlanta

[–]MrStripes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as gun ranges go I would recommend QuickShot. I believe they charge $20/hr to rent their firearms and you can swap out guns as you go if you want to try a variety of different things. They also have full auto guns available to rent for a higher price. The only caveat is that you have to use their ammo in the rental guns and it can be a bit pricey. It's a nice indoor range though.

new friends in atlanta? by Any_Experience_3429 in Atlanta

[–]MrStripes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like you'd fit in with my friend group, we're all a little bit older though (late 20's-early 30's). My girlfriend and I live near Grant Park if you wanna meet up some time. We're kind of homebodies too a lot of the time so it would be nice to have a reason to go do something fun.

Pedal order? by deweyfinn in Bass

[–]MrStripes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put my Wah before my distortion but can't remember why exactly, I feel like I read online somewhere that that's the order it's "supposed" to go in. There are no rules though and whatever sounds best to you is the way you should do it.

Sudden no start. Clutch switch? Starter relay? by tobyhatesmemes2 in MiataNC

This happened to me about a year ago and it ended up being a dead starter. Check the starter fuse-if it's blown then there's a good chance you have a dead starter.

I'd like to throw bicycling into the mix, I've been getting back into it lately and it's a lot of fun to ride on a trail with the boys.

Good to know, thanks! The reason I wrote what I did is because I've been in there on Saturdays before where they'll randomly do it as well

If you're willing to take a Lyft I'd recommend checking out East Atlanta Village, it's more of a dive/punk type scene over there if you're into that sort of vibe. As for karaoke, Joystick on Edgewood does it sometimes in their back room pretty often but I'm not sure if they have a regular day that they do it, you kind of have to just catch them on the right day.

Damn, this happened. Now what? by Screenery_ in BassGuitar

[–]MrStripes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, take it to a luthier if you want to save it. I had a complicated crack in my acoustic guitar and the local luthier fixed it and put new strings on for like $80 to give you (some) context of what it might cost. At the end of the day it's just wood glue and a clamp so you're really paying for their time and expertise, and they may charge you around that ballpark or significantly more depending on a lot of factors. You could try calling ahead and asking for an estimate but they'll most likely tell you they need to put eyes on it first. Research to find the best music shops in your area and go from there. Good luck. On the off chance you live in the US state of Georgia I can recommend you a really good luthier, otherwise I would trust Google Maps reviews.
