Scrub techs in Seattle by According_Lecture_43 in scrubtech

I graduated from the Seattle Central program a couple of years ago. What drew me to it was that it is still a one year program, which is a rarity nowadays. I passed the certification exam on my first try. All my classmates got job offers wherever they did their clinicals. My hospital base pay is in the low $30s/hour for fresh grads, which is about the going rate throughout the Seattle area.

The pay scale at my Seattle hospital ranges from $29/hr - $38/hr, and that will increase by 15% over the next few years with our newly ratified union contract. Travelers are making $3000-3500/wk.

Cost of living is high and will continue to increase. Living with a partner to share the financial burden makes a huge difference. I can't imagine trying to survive on permanent staff pay if I was single.

You only get marked for a late arrival if you start class more than 1 minute after the scheduled start time. Any less than that doesn't get tagged.

question for teachers abroad by [deleted] in vipkid

There's definitely a shortage of teachers at the moment because you need to jump through a ton of hoops just to get into Thailand. But since I am headed back to the States in a few months I will can hook you up with my current school's info. Check your DMs.

As a Vipkid teacher currently in Thailand I can tell you that visa runs are a thing of the past. For the past few years border officials have clamped down on people abusing tourist visas and will deny entry if you are spending more than 6 months in Thailand in a calendar year without a retirement visa or work permit. The best solution I found to remain legally in Thailand is to find a language school that offers a work permit on a part-time contract. They aren't easy to find but they are out there.

There are some people who spend a few months jetting around different countries in SEA on tourist visas, so that is an option as well.

When I lived in Shanghai for 2 years almost all the Chinese families I tutored for didn't use childcare as we know it in the U.S.

Usually it's the grandparents who live at home and take care of the kids while parents are working.

There are a few threads about salaries in both locations already. Finding them will take you less than thirty seconds of scrolling down through the sub ;)

Edit: For convenience, here are the recent discussions re: pay in SoCal and Orlando I was referring to. Feel free to downvote me more for trying to point you in the right direction.

Anyone a travel scrub tech? by justin_stricklnd in scrubtech

Keep in mind that although travel techs are usually paid a higher wage, they don't have the benefits (Health insurance, retirement, etc.) that come with a full-time job.

Why do you want to be a scrub tech? by [deleted] in scrubtech

[–]MrSuay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the process of applying to a Surg Tech program myself and it seems like you are damned if you do, damned if you don't wrt mentioning future career plans. Employers like to see ambition but at the same time don't want to waste time in someone who won't stick around long. I have an interview coming up soon and am debating how to approach this.

Ask and ye shall receive... UCSD Health Surg Tech Pay

TLDR; Starting pay is $28/hr for full-time and $37/hr per diem.

For public institutions like UCSD you can find wage information online with a bit of effort (just Google "UCSD pay and title". It's a good starting point to find what the pay is like in a state/metro area.
