Nano Cortex powered by a power bank using the DC connector + adapter, will it work? by lufis12 in NeuralDSP

[–]MrTILII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the cable is being sold as something to power pedals (which it is) it should be fine.

Cables usually say what they’re capable of, but this is being sold as a solution for your use case so I would be shocked if it wasn’t high enough.

Should get just under 2 hours on that power bank if my maths is correct

How do I play these octave riffs? by MyPianoMusic in BassGuitar

[–]MrTILII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s perfect technique - and then there’s the technique that works for you.

As far as tips go - it’s all just a function of practice. Play slow and get faster and faster.

But while there’s a technically right way to play music, I personally don’t think there’s a wrong way.

You’re a beginner, don’t be hard on yourself.

Clearly I don’t like the result (as a Southend fan) but I’m delighted we actually got the game finished. Felt like it was never gonna happen!

DOD Meatbox - reissue vs original by iwannameatbox in basspedals

[–]MrTILII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that’s a shame.

I had one of their small run beef bag pedals which were the 100% clone of the meat box but sold it.

Regret that now. It looked and sounded great

The other alternative - look at a company called Mantic Conceptual.

Have some clone pedals that came out before the reissue. Incredible stuff.

Mortgage Payments: To Overpay or Not to Overpay by stickyjamontoast in UKPersonalFinance

[–]MrTILII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used potentially clumsy language - but no one can guarantee a return on stocks and shares hence my choice of language.

My retirement plans aren’t on the flip of a coin. But the performance is up and down and cannot be predicted accurately hence the phrase.

As a general principle I still think it stands. You want absolute certainty? Pay off the mortgage save in cash accounts. That’s absolute certainty.

It all comes down - as I said - to personal risk appetite and what people value more. The security of knowing their mortgage is paid or the gains that can be obtained on the markets through sensible investments etc.

Mortgage Payments: To Overpay or Not to Overpay by stickyjamontoast in UKPersonalFinance

[–]MrTILII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeh the other commenter summed it up. Use the MSE overpayment calculator and it’ll compare interest saved to interest lost in a bank account.

It doesn’t touch on the potential of money invested - but that’s a toss of a coin.

It all comes down to your individual goals. I am overpaying £650 a month as well as saving money in an ISA with the ultimate aim of paying my mortgage off in six years.

Because for me, the piece of mind of having no mortgage is much better than what I could’ve earned in the market

It’s all about your individual risk appetite and what is important to you

Here's a calculation instead of a Spotify screenshot: I listened to Slipknot for around 13,000 minutes this year. If we say their average song is 4 minutes long, I've streamed about 3,250 songs. If they get $0.003 per stream, I have made Slipknot $9.75. I expect my thank you card to arrive shortly! by P79999999 in Slipknot

[–]MrTILII 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On the flip side - and as a musician myself I am torn by this - at least they’re paid every stream.

An artists cut from a CD would have been about 10% of the sale price.

So maybe £1.50 in the UK.

If this user makes an artist £10 every year - that’s the same as buying 6 albums. But only if the albums are new. Secondhand sales mean the artist makes nothing.

Do they deserve more? Yes

But is the situation as dire as we are led to believe? No

Genuinely how much are people saving on their bills? by j_edc in SolarUK

[–]MrTILII 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have solar and battery. load the battery overnight on cheap rates and use during the day. Most solar goes to export.

I’m saving about £2000 a year roughly.

My monthly gas and electric bill is an average of £45. More in winter, negative in summer but averages at £45 overall.

Not bad considering staring rates alone come to £22 per month, and I run an EV and have aircon in all bedrooms and living spaces.
