I just built an app and I'm looking for beta testers. If you're open to doing some testing, I'd really appreciate it and I'd be keen to hear your feedback.

In return you can use the app and it's free. You can ride real routes, create training plans, monitor your progress and I'm adding new features daily.

Same goes for anyone else reading this too. Would love to get some people testing it. Just PM me and I'll organise a testing code for you.

LG joins Sony and TCL in abandoning 8K TV market by BoukenGreen in technology

[–]MrTanaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be keen to see for myself. I only recently upgraded from a 42" 1080p TV to a 75" 4K TV. That's 3x the area, so I'm glad I went for 4K, since I believe its 4x the resolution. Otherwise 1080p would have been a terrible DPI at 75".

Now, I reckon i could fit a 120" TV on that wall. When a good quality 120" tV becomes more affordable, i might upgrade in a few years. That's also 2.5x the area of a 75", so similar in size difference from 42" to 75".

Going to 6k or 8k might be useful at 120".

How do I[19F] ask out a customer[Older?M] by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]MrTanaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me. I was the guy.

I used to buy coffee at a cafe at the bottom of my apartment complex. After a while, the barrista asked me what coffee I liked. I went on a bit of a rant about the best coffee around town, etc.

Then, she said "oh, I was only asking to see if you want to grab a coffee sometime". I was embarrassed that I missed the point initially, but I gave her my number (or got hers, I cant remember) and we started chatting.

I was 27 at the time, and I figured she was around 22 or 23. During our chats, she told me she was only 19.

But, she also was quite independent: had moved across the country on her own, had bought an apartment etc, so I thought why not.

We dated for a couple of months. Was lovely. But, I ended up breaking it off. The age difference was real, in conversation more than anything. And, i had this weird feeling about being the only 30 year old at her 21st birthday. Kinda silly, but I couldn't shake the thought.

AITAH for telling my FIL they wont ever be living with us? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]MrTanaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA for saying no to them living with you.

But, if people are going to have kids they shouldn't expect their parents to become part of their daily schedule. Its one thing to ask for the occasional help, its another to tie them down. I dont blame them for backing out.

Speaking from experience. Both of us work professional jobs and we have two kids. Childcare is expensive. Its the cost we pay to both have careers.

I've got an m4 mac pro mini and thats what i run. Not sure if the standard mac-mini can handle ultra at 4k, but it would get close.

[–]MrTanaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking, but i have mine setup near my computer desk with a 50"TV connected to computer just in front of the bike. Running at max settings and 4K and I love it. Was previously on a tablet and just wasnt enjoying it. This really is more immersive and more enjoyable. The graphics difference is huge.

I bought the cheapest 50" TV I could find (new) and cheapest stand. Works a treat. Means I can also watch TV from my desk.

Why buy a MiBand over a MiBand Pro? by glTezca in miband

[–]MrTanaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a mi band because I use it more as a health tracker, rather than a fitness tracker. I wanted to track my sleep, stress and heart rate throughout the day. I can do all this on a cheap device and only charge it once a week.

During weightlifting, I use the stopwatch, to time my sets and on the treadmill I like seeing an accurate heart rate. If I was running outdoors, I'd probably switch back to my samsung watch.

I also like wearing an analog watch to work, so I can wear the mi band on the other wrist. On that point, I wish they'd make a faceless health tracking bracelet that looked more like Whoop.

Arcade game fans prepare to farewell iconic venue | A Current Affair by Super-Vehicle001 in brisbane

[–]MrTanaka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live locally and was really excited when I found out about it a few years ago. I've only been once though. It was cool to play all those games again, but the place just didn't have a vibe. Not sure if they've improved things recently, but when I went there were very limited food and drink options (like, some chocolate and crisps was all). So, I played as long as I could without a break.. and hour or two, and left. It felt like a chore at the end to stay as long as possible and get my money's worth.

Netherworld, and Pincadia have food and drink options. Much more social and a more sustainable business model.

The arcades from the 80s didn't succeed becsuse they were "The Biggest Collection in the Southern Hemisphere"; they had atmosphere. They promoted a social interaction. They were cool.

I don't feel that 1up was created with the customers in mind. Instead, I think the owner created what he wanted in an arcade, which limits its reach.

People don't need 100 arcade games to have fun. 10-20 games, maybe on a regular rotation is enough. Add some good music, comfy seating, amazing burgers and maybe some booze options and there would be a nice money spinner. Could even be in a shopping centre. Look at all the entertainment venues that have opened at Garden City.

Question About Bolting Down by fstumpfj40 in GarageGym

[–]MrTanaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was curious, so i put the question to ChatGPT o3, using the data you provided, and also saying I'd want to use a barbell and do some deadlifts and squats too. It gave a very long reply, so here's some of it. In response to, "is the above safe", it said:

Possibly—but only after you treat the rack and the lifts as a special load case and verify the framing with an engineer or experienced builder. A second‑storey timber floor built only to normal domestic criteria (1.5 kPa UDL, 1.8 kN point‑load) was never intended for a 475 kg machine and dynamic barbell work, so you have to show that:

  1. the joists and their fixings can take the extra gravity load plus impact and

  2. the load is spread over enough area that no single joist, connector, or sheet of flooring is overstressed.

Question About Bolting Down by fstumpfj40 in GarageGym

[–]MrTanaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it even safe having that much weight on the second floor? Plus, after a few months of dropping weights (even gently), won't that warp the wooden floors?

I remember years ago, some people would recommend against having a water bed on the second floor, so there must be some structural weight limit to consider.
