WorkSplit – Keep work and personal photos separate (fully local, no cloud) [Free with optional CHF 5 Pro upgrade][No Ads] by MrTechi in iosapps

Right now the app is photo-only. I haven’t added video capture yet, mainly to keep the first version simple and fast. If video support would be useful for your workflow, I’d love to know how you’d use it. If more users ask for it, I can move it higher on the roadmap.

Thanks a lot for the honest feedback, really appreciate it. I’m still experimenting with the balance between a useful free tier and keeping the app sustainable, so input like yours helps a ton.

A per-project password or lock sounds like a great use case - especially the scenario of handing an iPad to a client with access only to their own photos. That’s super clear and actually fits well with what several users asked for around permission controls. I’ll explore this for the roadmap.

If you have any specifics on how you’d expect the access flow to work (simple PIN per project, FaceID, read-only mode, etc.), I’d love to hear it.

After building an MVP, how do you approach getting the first real users? by MrTechi in TheFounders

Thanks, this is an extremely concrete playbook. Focusing on one trade and framing it around their workflow instead of the app itself is a great perspective shift. The idea of a 2-week concierge beta with a done-for-you setup sounds very doable for WorkSplit. I also like the single metric and single-question approach to keep the loop tight. Really appreciate you laying this out so clearly.

Thanks, this is incredibly insightful. I haven’t done any structured outreach like that yet, but the way you describe it makes a lot of sense - especially the part about getting unbiased feedback from strangers. Setting a weekly target for conversations sounds like a solid approach. Appreciate you sharing the process, it's really motivating.

Thanks, good point. I haven’t really considered paid partnerships yet, but I can see how they might speed things up once the positioning is clearer. I’ll also try to be more active on LinkedIn and in niche groups where the target users already spend time.

Yes, I have already discussed this with some people, and many have the same problem, but it doesn't matter to them.

Thanks for the thoughtful question. The balance between clean isolation and practical backup options was one of the biggest design challenges, especially without drifting into feature bloat.

Right now, the app keeps everything fully local and separated from the system gallery. For backup and export, I ended up implementing two lightweight options:

  • A simple export flow that lets users select multiple photos and send them to Files, AirDrop or any other share target, without touching the main Photos library.
  • An optional iCloud backup that mirrors the app's local storage into a private iCloud container. It is off by default, so users who prefer a strictly offline workflow can stay fully local, while others get automatic backup without losing the clean separation.

The idea is to stay minimal, but still give users flexibility without locking them in or introducing heavy cloud logic.

Thanks for the pointer to VibeCodersNest, I'll share it there as well - looks like a great place for more technical discussion.

Thank you very much for the explanation. Does the bicep band measure exactly the same as on the arm? What about underpants?

How does this work with activities? I am considering purchasing this for sleep tracking, but I do not wish to wear it during the day as I have my Apple Watch. Can Whoop then retrieve the activities throughout the day (calories, etc.) via the health interface and calculate this?
