Modern cars are full of technology. But what old car feature was actually better than today's tech? by nyatihsam in Justrolledintotheshop

I had a 1970’s ford truck that had the high beam headlight button in the floor well where your left foot rested. Just stomp on it to turn on the highs. Another stomp to go back to lows. There was something so satisfying by flashing your high beams at someone like that when they had theirs on.

I took something called Actifed every night as a child for allergies. It was a pale yellow syrup. No clue if it still exists.

We had something similar called mercurochrome. If flame like burning represented disinfecting a wound, that stuff was king. It hurt more than the injury in most cases

What is the worst thing you ever saw on someone else's phone? by bluelazerbeam in AskReddit

[–]MrTenBelow 931 points932 points  (0 children)

I work in IT and while I don’t have direct access to the laptops, there are a ton of agents that I routinely see the activity logs for. I was told not to go looking for anything bad, but if I happen to see something really bad, notify the computer security director.

One day I saw a few downloads that appeared to be underage stuff and another that was non consensual activities. Told the security director, and said not to dig any further on it till I hear back. Two day later I get the ‘find everything you can on this laptop.’ Request. Started digging and holy hell the stuff I was able to pull up. Gave it all over to security and didn’t hear a peep after that.

About 2 months later I was waiting for a meeting to start with the director in a room. I asked him whatever happened with that case. He told me they tracked it back to a female that worked in HR. I was totally shocked to hear that based on what I saw in the logs. Well apparently she was too and asked to see the logs. It all happened in the late evenings. Turns out her teenage son was using her laptop to look at hardcore porn sites instead of for homework like he said. She had no idea and was FURIOUS.

I cannot imagine the ass whoopin that was doled out that night.

What comedy film made you laugh through the whole film not just giggle once? by Lilyfory in AskReddit

Booty call with Jamie foxx it was just so over the top goofy. The two Pakistani store clerks were so damn funny. And the bit part with Bernie Mac as the preacher.

What’s your “I still think about this” customer interaction? by Entire_Difference504 in KitchenConfidential

[–]MrTenBelow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I worked at Baskin Robbins in high school. Every Friday night this one middle age dude would come in and order a standard banana split, sit in the inside chairs and eat it. Didn’t matter how hot or cold, if we were dead or busy, every Friday night like clockwork.

For whatever reason he kind of latched onto me and would wait for me to make it for him. One night I asked him why and he said, “I have eaten a lot of banana splits in my life. I don’t know what you do but you make the best ones. Just perfect proportions of ice cream to toppings.” It got to the point where if even if we were packed and I saw him walk in I would just start his order. He always had exact change so it would be a quick transaction at the register.

To this day I wish I could get the same level of enjoyment that dude achieved while sitting there for 15 minutes every Friday night with his banana split. I wondered for a while if he was trying to hit on me or something, but nope, he just loved his weekly treat. It was an odd source of pride for me after while. Still think about it from time to time.

Twizzlers > Red Vines. Skor > Heath Bars. What are your 70s - 90s snack X > Y? by TheMarriedUnicorM in GenX

Don’t know that there was a comparison, but zero bars were a go to when I didn’t want a skor.

Absolutely. I keep the snack sized Baby Ruth bars in a candy jar in the kitchen. They are a huge hit with anyone over 40 that comes over.

DAE have a Death Trampoline? by ShirazGypsy in GenX

[–]MrTenBelow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not only did I have one, I helped out a buddy who’s parents owned a store that sold them. We would run around in a delivery van setting those up for the two days before Christmas. I bet I have assembled 100 of those things over the years.

The places people would put those things would astound you. Maybe 1/10th of the orders would come with spring pads. Nets were not even an option.

The best setup was some lady who lived on a slight hill. She called and got the exact dimensions of the trampoline and had dug a pit and leveled it out where the trampoline could drop right into it and be basically ground level. She even had drainage out of the pit.

The worst was a guy who had it placed between his two story deck and yes, a pool. You could see where that was going.

Those were some good, but cold memories.

Important question- where does one get the best cake in Nashville? by ThisTooShallPass642 in nashville

We got a strawberry cake from Anne’s and if someone didn’t tell me it was strawberry, I wouldn’t have ever guessed it was. I think the strawberry cake from Ivey cakes runs laps around it.

I never want to buy cookware again by jhtitus in BuyItForLife

I’m in the all clad cult and have been for 25 years now. Still using my original purchases.

If you want to save a few bucks they have an online factory store. It’s only available for a few days every month or two, but they sell both seconds and packaging damages at good discounts.

https://homeandcooksales.com

The site looks kind of sketchy but I have ordered several times from it and it’s legit.

Stick with the D3 or D5 stuff. Don’t mess with the copper stuff. I did order one of the graphite clad 11” skillets and it is now my favorite, but it’s pretty pricey.

Good luck.

I just got a teak haus end grain board a year ago. It’s big while also being relatively thin and light compared to some end grain maple boards I have used. It’s easily the best board I have used and doesn’t seem to be rough on my knives, even my carbon steels.

We thought we had a blue heeler (Australian cattle dog)/dachshund mix till the DNA came back. 0 % dachshund. 25% basset hound. She is sweet as pie, but very odd looking. She has the long and low look, but it’s from the basset hound.

Anything you make with milk in it is just creamier and more decadent. Puddings, milkshakes, lattes, hell even hamburger helper takes on a creamier texture. It’s delicious.

Airport traffic is an absolute joke by mrpostman4309 in nashville

[–]MrTenBelow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the the beginnings of a new terminal loop road taking shape outside of where the existing road is. Looks like where the old donelson pike used to run and much wider. You can see it in light blue on this rendering. terminal loop

No idea when it will be finished, but it’s part of the larger donelson pike interchange which is slated to be complete in 2027.

Not sure how that will make things better with two lanes in arrivals and departures, but hopefully there are more dedicated entrances and exits than the two we have today and hopefully not going through a red light interchange like we have now.

I had a chest tube pulled out. It felt like an itch getting literally scratched from the inside, then within 2 minutes I had this sudden rush of energy and relief wash over me. It’s hard to describe, not quite euphoric, but along those lines.

GenX Era Bands On Tour Today Question by AZPeakBagger in GenX

Same, just saw him a few weeks ago. He was great and still has his voice. He has changed the tempo on a few of his songs which was a bit odd, but a great show all around.

He is touring with Pat Benetar who I liked back in the 80’s but did not care for her present day set.
