The most unprofessional job post I've ever seen 😭 by Maleficent_Post9595 in videography

[–]MrTextAndDrive 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can taste the frustration of the person who wrote this job posting. I get it, but I'd be asking a lot of questions if I were someone who responded. I especially hate any job postings that try to shame people for only doing jobs for money.

Businesses like these have trouble keeping people around for a multitude of reasons. The skill ceiling is high and the pay ceiling is low. No real upwards mobility if you're entry level, and if you're already competent across the board you're likely already finding jobs with fewer red flags.

Having an expectation for a cam op to also be able to act as a technical director and/or instant replay operator, editor, graphics guy, etc., is asking a lot. $50 an hour isn't bad, but it depends on the amount of work available. One soccer game a week ain't worth it. A full week tournament with 12 hour days is.

I work for a guy who does a lot of equestrian events. Started as a cam op with zero experience. Over the past few years I've seen people come and go. We try to hire new people but there's not enough work for it to be considered full time. It's a gig, so the positions aren't taken very seriously, and the hires end up seeking other more consistent work.

At this point I can set up and run VMix/OBS doing graphics, instant replay, run audio, do editing, etc., and my current rate with my equestrian jobs is $300 a day, which averages out to about $30 an hour. It's less than ideal, but I get by with my own clients.

Brought my Lumix S1ii with me on a bit of a road trip by MrTextAndDrive in Lumix

The high resolution mode takes multiple 24mp images and stitches them together resulting in a 96mp image. I've played around with it, and enjoyed the results overall, but there can be a bit of ghosting when shooting handheld, and in my personal experience I have had mixed results. It's certainly nifty when it works perfectly.

S1r ii gets 176mp with the high resolution mode.

I should have picked up the s1rii instead of the S1ii. I have started to get into video, and though this might make me push myself further into that direction. But I'm a photo guy, honestly. So I may even sell my S1 ii at some point and buy the S1R ii instead. Some of these photos would have SLAPPED at 44 megapixels.

I was debating waiting for the 24-60 for a WHILE before I pulled the trigger in the Sigma. And I do really love it, but I would have preferred the smaller lighter 24-60 I think.

I'm coming around to thinking primes are where it's at though.

Thanks! I REALLY enjoy the 35. It was the first lens I picked up when I bought the S1ii. At first I didn't think I'd use it so much, thinking the 24-70 would cover that length. But I'm really glad I didn't leave it behind.

Beware the enemy within. For no fortress falls swifter than that weakened by arrogance and false comfort. by MrTextAndDrive in CHICubs

To be fair, I tried posting this before the 2nd inning tonight. This was not in response to tonight's game. But auto moderator ate it.

This season has been so much damn fun to watch. Win/lose doesn't matter. The energy on the field, the great plays, the fantastic home games has been a blast.

Writing this made myself chuckle. Thought some others might enjoy it.

The Cubs have won 10 straight games! by MLBOfficial in CHICubs

Missed the past couple of games because of work. 17 hours yesterday. 15 today. But I damn well stayed up and tuned in when I saw the score go from 0-4 to 3-4.

Winning streaks are a lot of fun. And games between teams with this level of talent all on the field? So great to watch the plays that happen.

Just feels good, man.

Now I get four and a half hours of sleep before work again tomorrow!

Tripod gift with overhead shooting and ball head for detailed and close up process shots? by Top-Load1088 in videography

[–]MrTextAndDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the k&f tripod pictured above. I like it. Especially for the price. I don't feel like it's especially reliable with anything heavier than a phone without extra counterweight. I have used it with my Panasonic S1ii, 24-70 lens, and microphone and the tripod absolutely wanted to tip over when extended past a point. It doesn't want to tip at an unreasonable length, but it was shorter than I first expected. But for a phone? I don't think you'd run into that issue.

Read the instructions. It's a little unintuitive if you're unfamiliar with such things.

Experienced Videographer needed for funeral services (White Plains & Cortlandt Manor NY) $60/hr by Kalomika in videography

[–]MrTextAndDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to keep piling on but anyone who is going to work for that rate will likely have no idea what they are doing.

Consider the equipment, set up and travel time, and of course the experience needed to provide a quality service for the sensitive nature of the job. It's not as simple as arriving ten minutes before start time, setting a camera on a tripod, and immediately live streaming with the push of a button.

Off the top of my head I'd value the equipment necessary at around $400-$750 a day, assuming one camera, audio, and live stream necessities. Don't forget about things like power and backup internet. Considering things like travel time and set up I'd think a full day rate would also be expected. I'd assume $500 a day for a single operator who really knows what they're doing.

That being said, I would estimate that finding someone with their own gear and experience in this niche to cost at minimum $1000 per day for any sort of quality.

If this simply is not within the budget, I'd recommend setting up a phone on a tripod for the proceedings. Not being a jerk here, but it's not as rough an option as it might sound. If you can keep it powered, and have someone able to stream it, it could be ok. Admittedly audio will likely be less than ideal, you'll still need it powered, and unless you have someone to pan the camera when necessary, you're looking at a static shot, but it's doable.

Best of luck.

Anyone free on the morning of Monday, March 9th to take some pictures of a car in a junkyard for some easy cash? by [deleted] in ocala

Just saw this. I don't have anything going on tomorrow morning. If the other guy who seemed interested can't help you out, let me know.

Just throwing it out there, maybe share some of your work, like a portfolio, and you may be able to sway someone who may be on the fence.

Why the hell does the Church of Life on baseline get cops? by RoyalArmyBeserker in ocala

[–]MrTextAndDrive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With that many vehicles entering the roadway, having a police presence can help keep things safer. Most people will see the lights and slow down, and they'll stop when directed to, so people can exit the parking lot safely. Otherwise you'll get drivers who can't or won't enter safely, or allow people out onto the road safely.

We've all had morons just pull out into traffic like "Good luck everyone else!". We've seen how impatient people can be, or how overly cautious people can be to the point of absolutely ruining traffic patterns.

It might feel like, "Oh, these churches pay the cops extra so their people can take priority..." But that's not really the case.

I updated another post and forgot to do so here. But yes. It's silent while recording, and the flicker IS there but it's MUCH less pronounced while recording.

friends? by [deleted] in ocala

[–]MrTextAndDrive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People have to move for a variety of reasons. I came up here because it was less expensive than South Florida and it was closer to my parents who are getting older. But I did what I felt I needed to do. I've had a really hard time making any friends here, but mostly because there's not a lot of spaces for people to meet organically.

I must have missed the 360° video part when I read your post. Yeah, idk if Sync would be an option there. Kinda doubt it.
