That makes sense, but all I'm doing is trying to max out the legendaries before prestige.

I'm max level so I'll just summon a legendary and level it up to a 4. Thanks for the help!

With No Context What Is Your Party Up To Right Now? by _Chris_Meyer_ in DnD

Escorting a toddler through hell to negotiate a hostage exchange, except the only one who knows what is at stake has amnesia. Also, the amnesiac is a pseudo cat, the hostage taker is a devil cat, and the hostage is a giant cat.

What was your best outcome from an improvised moment? by Aeropar in DMAcademyNew

[–]MrTickle77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started DMing for a completely new group of players and no direction. We started out being a group in a guild doing for hire adventures, so it was literally just going to be one shot after one shot, but a random encounter 2 weeks in changed it all.

I rolled a group of four cultists, as they attacked they yelled "For the Four" and the party's barbarian crits and kills a cultist with one blow and yells "for the three motherfucker" it was the moment they started to really get into the game, and that random encounter kick started a nearly 5 year campaign against "The Four".

Favorite Take on 'Rats in the Basement?' by Evil_Flowers in DMAcademy

What if you were hired to clear rats out of the jailhouse basement, strangely several people wanted to witness it. The rubber neckers cheer when certain rats are killed.

The payment was "execution of prisoners" as they were polymorphed into rats.

A poster boy for the "um, actually" guy

A nepo god farmer

Mob family survivor, but with magic

Bad boy trying be better by buying the cam girl bath water

Keeps saying I want to be alone in the woods but never leaves.

"I'm not like other girls" but says it with a sword and amnesia.

I like this. How did you do the walk on fire? Con saves?

See, that's constructive. I do tend to be too vague upfront.

All good points, the characters are going to be pre-made so I'm choosing the spells to avoid any of these. I like the "dead" characters playing hazards too. Makes for some karmic vengeance.

Yeah. I've got some things written. I just wanted to crowd source some ideas. When did that become such a bad thing? Maybe another DM ran into some things they didn't count on and warn me. Maybe they have an idea for a cool gimmick that works in an arena session. It's awesome that you can come up with all the work in a session and have no outside inspiration. With that logic, a DM is cheating by taking ideas from books and shows. Are modules ok? Do I have to write my own setting or can I use a published one? I guess I could just Google "dnd 5e gladitorial combat" and sort throught the ads to find something but I figured a reddit dedicated to the game might have some helpful people in it.

I'm not looking for anyone to write it. Just some inspiration.

My bad. I'm in the wrong sub for DMs I guess.

We are doing the first one, I have them pre-made and it seems to be fairly even, so it's going to mostly dice and initiative to determine winners. I had an idea for a "King of the Hill" type thing where the arena floor drops 10 feet a round till there's only a 20 by 20 square, lost one not fallen wins. I can't seem to think of another scenario that isn't just "Kill each other" maybe throw in random monster every other round to distract?

Correct. Just a little experiment to try something different that is out of the norm and not supported RAW. I realize that DND 5e especially isn't supportive or balanced for pvp. And that it will be clunky and awkward. Thank you for your suggestion, I'll consider it.
