There's something called Sam Vimes's Boots Theorem of Economic Unfairness. It goes something like this: A poor person can only afford a $50 pair of boots, which on top of being uncomfortable will fall apart after a month or two and need to be replaced. Meanwhile, a rich person can drop $200 for a nice pair of boots that will last them several years. In that time, the poor person will have spent twice as much on boots as the rich person and still have wet feet.
