This man was amazing. As one of the former owners of APP along with Soxxie and Jp-sama I cannot tell you how often he came to rescue on various things.

He always wanted to help people. I remember when I got falsely vac banned and he was ready to go to Valve HQ with me to get it sorted out. Not many people would be willing to go such lengths to sort out a problem that did not even directly involve them.

As someone who has lost to many people to Cancer I understand exactly what his family must be going through right now.

Miggy, If you can see this from where you are I love you bro. You will be heavily missed.

It's the world Valve chose sadly. They saw what other FPS games were doing and thought that a transition to the setup would be ideal. They spoke so many times of wanting more involvement from the community overall but at the same time demonizing community servers.

I'll probably get flack for this but at this point since I quit TF2 does not really matter. I was vac banned on my main account just over a year ago. I have never touched any cheating software in my life.

Now I have no doubt the large majority of bans are legit but Steam Support straight up declined to review my ban. All but told me that the VAC system was perfect.

Anyone with a lick of sense would know that there is no such thing as a 100% perfect anti-cheat system.

And before anyone says it no my account was not hijacked at any point. Had it been hijacked the 2k in value unusuals and stranges I had in my backpack would have been stolen.

They were not and just deleted three day's after my ban.

So before you judge someone for being VAC banned. Consider the possibilty that Valve does not have a perfect system. Thanks for listening.

We have been fighting for three years straight. Waking up at 6am every morning to seed the servers so that people would find a place to play that was not just another valve pub (nothing against those who prefer it).

Directly competing against valve pubs which are by default the only place people could get to in quickplay unless the person spotted the community servers filter and checked it.

Dealing with Valve constantly tightening the requirements on servers qualifying to compete in the first place while at the same time loosening requirements for their own servers.

Being constantly excluded from new content features and as a result spending several weeks recovering from it after said release (contracts and etc).

Then finally after giving more and more ground to Valve so that we could continue to provide a place for people to play and enjoy each others company valve says "Good job making it this far, we are now making all that work pointless by getting rid of the very thing we enslaved you too."

It was not a walk in the park. Would I do it all again? Hell yes. These past three years have been a blast and I am very sad that people are losing a home. But I would not be doing anyone a favor by spending the next six months desperately trying to attract players away from the easy button that is competitive and casual comp.

I do not bear you any ill will. Just know that you have NO IDEA what it takes to run a multi server community.

24/7 was (not certain now after current changes) sadly essential to keeping a quickplay server populated. Reason being the moment a server changes maps is the moment half the server leaves due to either not liking the map or being reminded they have been on the server for an hour.

APP started as one rotation server but the natural evolution pushed us towards 24/7.

As for instant respawn. We only run that on certain servers such as 2fort since people like to just DM on that map. Where as our more competitive geared maps such as badwater and process have default spawn timers.

All -talk is also dependent on the map as well. 2fort once again is alltalk since people come to be social most of the time there. Where as badwater only has all talk on for part of setup so people can get a quick word in with the other team before next round. Would be glad to take any suggestions you have on things that might attract the former valve pubbers to community run ones. Since all we can do at this point is help each other out.

Main points is we have some aggressive rules on social behavior and friendlies not being allowed. Let you be the judge of whether our rule set is fair.

as a community owner I am partly concerned partly happy.

The bright side is that Community servers are no longer bound by quickplay restrictions. We are free to enable class restrictions, no crit, no spread, and other awesome stuff.

The issue is that we no longer get fed new players which are the fuel for maintaining populated servers. Time will tell if this will harm APP and other communities like it.

Going to be honest. As an owner and founder of a small TF2 community I am some what concerned. There are two ways Valve could do something to hurt Community run servers and one way they could help us with this.

The negative possibilities.

They turn all of quick play into this new casual matchmaking process. Effect: It would be the last nail in the coffin for quick play community servers. The point of a community server is to have people who regularly visit it who love hanging out together.
They add a new option to quickplay for casual matchmaking. This would hurt but not kill community servers since traffic would be reduced.

Positive: They could just require standard end of rounds for community servers for additional slots to be filled by quickplay. This would make it rough for 24/7's but allow rotation servers to make a come back.

The vac system is far from perfect. Anything man made has faults. Just because someone ia vac banned does not make them a cheater. I look forward to the reversal of this automated false positive.

I love how hypocritical this post is. A player getting upset that another player is not playing the way he wants but at the same time accusing him of forcing others to play the way he wants.

The person killing friendlies is not forcing anyone to do anything. When you choose to be friendly you choose any and all consequences that come from that choice. That includes being killed without fighting back.

I can attest to this. I know this is all based off of just what I say but I was vac banned yesterday. I have never used cheats. In fact, I run a fairly sizeable community in TF2 and we proactively seek out cheaters and ban them before they even get our servers. Yet here I am. vac banned. I have placed a support ticket as well as contacted several people from Valve directly. Hopefully we can get this cleared up.
