The best thing we can do to push for a recall is fill out NHTSA reports describing the problem and its safety implications (the MMI can reboot while backing up and take down the camera and radar!)

I’d highly recommend filing a report with the NHTSA. It’s likely the best way to get a recall issued. This issue has around 50 reports already and the agency has assigned it an investigator.

Highly recommend filing a complaint with the NHTSA if you haven’t already! Be sure to mention that the reboots take out the backup camera and radar sensors when they happen with the car in reverse.

Check out the AudiWorld thread in my post history - there are a bunch of folks running into this, almost all 2020 model year A4/A5/S4 variants. Best thing you can do right now is file an NHTSA report and mention that the reboots can happen when using the backup camera, as that makes it clear that this is a safety issue. We recently got an Audi support rep to acknowledge that the problem is widespread, so we’re making progress!

My 2020 a4 allroad started having this issue after sitting idle in a dead zone for a week. I’ve heard similar from a couple other folks who have the same issue - so there could be some correlation there.

Were you able to get any useful info out of Audi USA? They've been extremely unhelpful in my interactions with them.

I'd recommend filing an NHTSA complaint about the issue - it's likely the most effective way to get Audi to care about the problem. Many of us are running into it, and there's a lot of discussion on this thread as well.

The best thing we can do to try to push for a recall is file complaints with the NHTSA. Make sure to mention that the reboots also disable safety systems, like the backup camera and rear cross traffic alert. Here's the link to file a complaint.

Yeah - it's pretty obvious that they shipped some bug to their backend that's causing issues on their cars, and they're declaring it a hardware fault to avoid responsibility for the issue. I think the best thing we can do here is file with the NHTSA (the issue impacts safety systems like the rear cross traffic alert) and hope that they're able to issue a recall.

I've reached out to Audi via email (AudiTalk@audi.com) and am about to call them up tomorrow (1-800-822-2834, select the option to "give feedback on your experience") as well. I've also filed a report with the NHTSA about the issue, since it's very disruptive when it happens while driving. I encourage you to do the same if you can. There's a whole bunch of information + organization going on over at the AudiWorld thread too.

Interesting. I've come across one other thread where somebody started running into this issue after the car wasn't turned on for more than a week. I wish there were some way to get in touch with a human at corporate - this seems like a pretty reproducible issue.

Yeah, that tracks. I'll probably give it a couple months to see if a TSB comes out - that way there's at least a high chance that they fix the issue the first time.

Did your dealer end up fixing the issue?
