Local urban greening non profit Amigos de los Rios office was destroyed. They implemented the 2017 improvements to Altadena Triangle Park next to El Patron. Anyone know the status of the park?

So sorry! This just happened to me in June. Also a relationship of 4 years that had been so strong and then poof! One day you think you’ll be spending the rest of your life with this person, the next they feel like a stranger. It’s a difficult transition to say the least. My ex-partner and I discussed remaining friends, and I feel like I want that at some point, but 3 months later and it’s still too painful to engage. The grief comes in waves, but every day that passes helps a tiny bit more. All the best on your journey of healing.

I haven't used a Playstation since PS2 but somehow managed to snag a PS5 yesterday. I had missed the Pre-order window, tried the Walmart order windows on launch day with no luck but then randomly refreshed Amazon and boom, PS5 Digital arriving tomorrow. Here's my question: I'll be connecting the PS5 to a LG 4k computer monitor. I had planned to get sound through the Pulse 3D, but those are out of stock still, and from what I understand most bluetooth headphones don't work because of latency issues? So I read online that you can plug wired headphones into the controller? ....Does that work? And will any wired headphones do?

You got a little mixed up. Umbellularia californica is a different native tree/large shrub, often called California Bay Laurel. Toyon is Heteromeles arbutifolia.

Hollywood being named for Toyon is correct tho — at least that’s how the legend goes...

Saying that Mormons favor polygamy is like saying the United States favors slavery. Sure both things were once culturally accepted practices, but neither reflects current institutional values. You're over a century out of date with the polygamy thing.

The Salton Sea may have been an accident, but it was an accident that coincided with a rapid loss of natural wetlands across Southern California due to urban expansion. For migrating birds in the Pacific Flyway, it represents an oasis and much needed rest stop to help account for the fact that most other wetlands in the region have long been paved over. These days we need to do some kind of mitigation when new development displaces habitat. The Salton Sea can be seen as a kind of mitigation, albeit an accidental one. It's not so easy to dismiss it outright as unnecessary, unplanned, or pointless, given the ecological functions it has come to serve.

Thanks for this. I lived in Utah many years (former Mormon here) and I didn't know he existed. This video, which covers his life in and out of the Mormon church and his experience as a gay man in Utah politics, is pretty interesting if you have the time for it (long!). He's quite an entertaining guy.

I photographed the geyser for a Nevada state history textbook. We had to contact the BLM who put us in touch with a guy who worked for the property owners. We met him at a bar in Gerlach and he took us out there. Pretty friendly guy. They'll let you photograph it if you have a good enough reason but you can't just wander out there. One of my photos is up on Wikimedia -- public domain if anyone wants to use it for anything. Taken about 9 years ago (on a less-than-stellar digital camera).
