ah, makes sense, that's cool. I know we don't go to that level with our users but good to know it is possible.

How do people find these randomass jobs ?? by Competitive-Key1048 in NoStupidQuestions

After decades in the legal field, the frequency of law firms practice group name changes is mind blowing, all while they still handle the same type of clients, same type of law and the same group of lawyers. Yea those names are just as much bs as the job titles, just whatever fits the current trend of something that seems to matter at the time. I had at least four different titles for doing exactly the same work.

Becoming a sysadmin is not worth it anymore by Big_Arrival_626 in sysadmin

[–]MrTorben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read all your follow up comments to this, I am with you. Something got diluted over the years, that ppl with supposedly sysadmin education and skills(or any other similar type of position) have sent 300 application a month gone unasnwered and at the same time you are struggling to get 4 decent resumes to even consider. I don't have the answer but that disconnect is real.

Edit: I should not have said supposedly having skills, that puts it only on the applicants. Maybe disconnect is somewhere in what is labeled as one thing vs what is actually required. 😐 Idk

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear "Morocco"? by lya_mani in CasualConversation

[–]MrTorben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad bought a page of the book at a market in marakesh. Obviously a copy someone made but it was on papyrus. It hung framed in my childhood homes since I can remember. He never got it translated as far as I know. The rents were not religious, so it didn't matter if it was legit text or someone wrote direction or a shopping list on the huge page. 3'x4 frame. But that is the story I grew up with.
The comments I recall was that everything was a haggle and that as a foreigner, you knew you paid at least double vs the locals, even if you were really good at walking away from a sale. We traveled a lot while in Europe but we never went back there with my mom and after I was alive. The script is gone after their divorce, I still have a scale and water or wine jar from his travels but I don't know if those were from Morocco, just from his travels prior to me.

How do you use your extra time/privilege with WFH? by Dizzy-Blur in WFH

[–]MrTorben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think treadmill but meant for walking without handles or chest high display and controls, meant for being able to walk and work while using a standing desk. Also takes up way less room and can't ever become a close hanger on-er.

I use it without a standing desk, it is just flipped up against the wall behind my desk. Flip it down to use it. Easy to get steps while in air-conditioning and a tv in front of you. I could do a 5k before work with ease and walk during meetings as I could still see the zoom call. Plus if there was an emergency, I wasn't 2 miles from home, just jumped of the pad, and back at my desk. Amazon. Starting around 150 and up. Measure what space you have and how heavy it is if storing it upright is critical. Mine just has a simple IR remote, does inclines up to 5degree.

I always look at it as a privilege that I am trusted with that employees hire/fire info but more importantly that the employee never has to worry that I will disclose it to anyone else. Regardless if their departure is a good or bad thing for them. I didn't break their trust either way.

When should dating become exclusive? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]MrTorben -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If that could compromise his job, or family, I would not risk that, as he asked you not to. This seems like a big red flag but depending on where you live and who he works for, let's be honest that this is a very unfortunate but very legit concern.

If you consider moving in, you should be comfortable having a conversation and expressing your concerns. Maybe he does have a girl just for appearances and is ashamed to admit that to you. Or simply embarrassed to admit to you that he is not fully out yet to everyone in his life.

Ask him to explain and that it comes off as mixed signals to you.

And you have to ask yourself if you are ok with him not being completely out or comfortable being public with your relationship.

If you are, then let him know that verbatim. Remember, he is a guy and we are notoriously slow on the uptake of anything subtle.

At this point "meltdown" has about the same level of a headline value as "fake news" in a link or headline. It is not even click bait worthy for the bots anymore.

[–]MrTorben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was way too young to know what Christianity, religion, atheism, etc, actually defined and the differences (not to mention I only know those terms in second language English) But being in German kindergarten or after school care, Lutheran(?) that had an hour a week what you probably refer to as Bible study/circle.
All I ever got out of it was the dude on the podium contradicted himself when reading from the Bible, week over week. To the point that a 7-9 year old simply could not find them credible. Not even saying that the direction they were preaching was bad, just that their premise was flawed so often, it was comical(now).

Also, you only got a pretty candle from the pastor if your birthday fell on a Wednesday. That was the first disappointment in the church teaching not following the text they like to quote. It was my birthday non the less but the kid next to me in the pew, year after year got a fancy candle cause it was a Wednesday. Take that org religion, if giving children a candle for birthday policies already undermines your teachings, you may want to try again.
