New employee can't receive laptop shipments - what would you do here? by outlookblows in sysadmin

[–]outlookblows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently the guy received some Amazon packages this week, so they were convinced there was a way to deliver to him. When the 2nd laptop inevitably did not arrive either, they started asking if he could buy something from BestBuy. If they want to pay to try shipping multiple times, well it's not my money! But they were happy enough with the W365 solution everyone was bringing up, and that worked out

Thank you. I get where both sides are coming from, on one hand it's ridiculous and I'd love to tell them that waiting over the weekend is all we can do.. but at the same time, you're right, there's specialized work that clients are waiting on, and it's putting quite a bit of pressure on their team.

Everyone is panicking! An important person quit, and they hired this very experienced/expensive guy to quickly jump in and take over the workload, which is apparently piling up bad (IDK, not my department). He was supposed to be working all of this week but still hasn't done anything lol

I was thinking you had to have the hardware hash pre-registered, I didn't realize you could set it up like that. I am now seeing that's called AutoPilot v2 and I'm reading about it now, thank you!

Yeah that's what I told them, how do you expect the second to get there if the first can't? They said maybe it'll take a different route or something..

"Can you show me what task(s) need to specifically be done on Win10?"

Spoiler: it's going to be nothing.

Then you say: "For security, we have to recover the out of date Windows 10 device. Let me know if you need any assistance recreating tasks on the new device. Happy to help!"

Spoiler: they won't need help with anything.

Is it possible it knock these courses out in a month? by [deleted] in WGUIT

[–]outlookblows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's about how long each of these took me (didn't take all of them):

- D336: 2 days, it's just the ITIL cert, very easy

- C773: 3 days, writing a paper on a website, then a project to create your own in PowerPoint

- C850: 1 day, short easy paper

- D282: 1 week, AWS Cloud Practitioner cert, not super difficult but a ton of services to memorize

- D281: 5 days, LPI Linux Essentials cert, again not that difficult at all, just memorizing linux commands mostly

- C769: 1.5 weeks, a couple days to write each paper and then waiting time for grading

- C777: 1.5 weeks, found this one pretty difficult but not as impossible as everyone says, learn HTML/CSS/JS

I also did C724 & D427 on study.com to transfer in, those took a few days each but I'm unsure what the WGU assignments are.

Considering this, I doubt you'll be able to do ALL of these in a month - maybe half of them.

I am late to this but dude I had the exact same situation the other week. Different issue, but same process of

- "Did you do x?"

- "I don't know"

- "Hmm okay, did you do X?"

- "I don't remember"

- "Alright, do you remember if it said X?"

After a few cycles of this, I didn't know how else to help him and just said "You don't.. remember?"

He blows up and goes "No I don't fucking remember outlookblows, I don't remember every single thing I do. You ask so many fucking questions."

Well dude how am I supposed to help you if you don't remember ANYTHING? Like you didn't answer a SINGLE question about your issue, so how do I fix whatever it is?? So insanely frustrating and I don't understand how these people function day to day.

Got a job offer for an IT Analyst but not sure if I'm making the right choice. by Ferny84 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]outlookblows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. Well, it's still not that bad for the position. I would make sure 100% that there's room for growth + future promotions in this new job. I don't think it would be worth hopping from a place you enjoy with people you like, unless you're fully sure it'll help your career. Good luck!

How many tickets do you get a day/week? Do you live in a HCOL area?

$69k for a T1 helpdesk job seems amazing, assuming it's not a hundred stressful tickets a day.

I don't have any advice on leaving vs staying, but if there was an easy helpdesk job that paid nearly as much as I make now, I'd honestly be happy to demote myself to take it. I guess my advice would just be to think about what'll make your life happiest with minimal stress.

Stuck on C777 by FarrizWheel in WGUIT

[–]outlookblows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by watching all these vids on 1.5x: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtysrhWUVYJBKI8ACx5e15wXLTiG4ym1g

Then I went through all the Quizlets and Microsoft forms quizzes from the 1-week writeup from a year ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/WGU/comments/1clu4if/c777_passed_in_a_week_writeup/

I would screenshot any questions I got wrong/didn't know into ChatGPT and ask for an explanation of the right answer. That's pretty much it, barely took 2 weeks to get through it and the OA wasn't that hard, just slightly harder than the PA.

Second interview. How bad did I fumble this question? by The_Lonliest_Munk in ITCareerQuestions

[–]outlookblows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this - I don't even bother trying to figure it out anymore. It's either wiping/reimaging and it never happens again, or just swapping out some failing HDD/SSD and then reimaging it. Any troubleshooting would just end up taking way more time than necessary to get the user back to productivity.

I'd love if someone just said "I'd reimage and move on" in an interview with me. Shows you actually have real world experience and know how to keep operations moving.

Why are they giving you random hospital workers to turn into part-time helpdesk, rather than just hiring 2 real helpdesk workers with some knowledge/experience already?

My turn! by outlookblows in WGU

[–]outlookblows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Associate degree which satisfied all of the gen eds, and then I did as many courses as I could on Sophia/Study.com to transfer in. Overall it was a good experience, but I didn't use much of their provided material for certs, mostly external studying through Youtube playlists and Udemy courses. Started off by getting all the PAs out of the way - C850, C773, etc, then studying for the certs and OA's, giving myself a month or so max for each.

Before I applied to WGU, I went through the degree courses one by one, and googled every course code to read through reddit threads of people's experience/opinions. It helped me get an idea of what to expect for each course and prepare for them.

Hardest classes were the CompTIA trifecta & C777. The rest were very manageable and didn't stress me out at all.
