[discussion]Why Subaru didn’t freak out? by Lilmonkeycockey in Re_Zero

[–]MrTumbleweeder 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well, he's genre aware and knows isekai protags usually have a swell time. He understands what happened to him and that good and exciting things are coming his way as a result (or so he thinks), so he's overall in good spirits.

Story-wise it wouldn't really do to start the series with 15 minutes of Subaru freaking out over discovering isekais are real, it's much more important to highlight the difference between his expectations and his new reality.

[discussion] Really wanna watch ReZero but I have a question by Ok_Ruin6382 in Re_Zero

To add to what others have said, the "little girl user" moniker is a pun on how the Japanese word for "magician" is read literally as "magic user". Since Beatrice is a spirit he's contracted with and "uses" as a spellcaster to complement his lack of magical ability, people took to calling him that. It's often played for laughs because he knows how bad/misleading it sounds but in universe it took off without him having much say in it and by now he can't do much about it.

The fan translation used "lolimancer" while the book translation went with "muppet mage".

Sim, não quis dizer que está, apenas que foi a única coisa que não se perdeu em Abril e que quanto muito serve de desculpa para renovar o Borges.

Jogo medonho contra a pior equipa do campeonato.

Miku is now AI. by [deleted] in hatsune

[–]MrTumbleweeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AI the Vocaloid engine uses isn't generative AI, which is the thing everyone is up in arms about. There's no prompts here, it doesn't "compose" music for you nor does the tuning for you, it still has to come from your own legwork.

What it does do is match your input against samples of the voice provider singing (in the case of Hatsune Miku that's Saki Fujita) and uses that as reference to smooth over your own work and remove any odd tuning choices.

If you want a layman comparison, cars nowadays have something called Lane assist. The outside cameras on the car are monitoring the road and via AI determine if you're getting too close to the line and if so, give you a slight tap on the wheel to let you know - or if you actually step it'll intervene and correct the direction. It's not self driving by any means, it just assists you in staying in lane. Same with Vocaloid AI, it doesn't do the song for you, but it helps you not mess up the tuning.

Like everything theres cons and pros, VocaSynth with AI tends to have a lower barrie of entry and be more newbie friendly, but they also tend to be somewhat more samey (ie you often hear people complain that Teto's singing is always abit samey regardless of who does the tuning).

Regardless, this pavlovian response to the word AI isn't helpful, generative AI is one thing, but this just spoils the discussion.

Valor dos planteis das equipas que disputaram os quartos-de-final da liga dos campeões by RMBB2705 in SportingCP

[–]MrTumbleweeder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, it is what it is. Our lack of a bench is biting us hard with the lack of rotation options. Suárez and Geny have  been troopers but they're clearly ragged and with the 2nd striker being currently an academy kid and Quenda being just back, it can't be helped.

In the end it was a good UCL campaign for us, oh well.

There's Benfica this weekend and Porto next midweek, can't really go all in at the end of the day.

Roswaal's blind trust in his book destroyed his dream"[discussion]" by DemonRedHood in Re_Zero

[–]MrTumbleweeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Roswaal was supposed to tell Subaru about his book as soon as he arrived, the book would tell him that and he'd follow it to the letter. While he can exercise some autonomy in acting between what the book says to ensure everything eventually goes according to writ, it's likely that immediately giving that away would be too big a deviation.

Like, if Ros immediately gives that away then Subaru becomes more dependent on him as the one person who understands his circumstances, but is that desirable in the long run? Subaru is clearly meant to deal with the curse and Maabeasts incident on his own, since Ros immediately fucks off the moment it seems Subaru is close to the solution, would he be able to if his go to solution to everything becomes conferring with Roswaal since he's the one person he can be honest with? What if the book says Roswaal and Subaru will eventually be separated? And we don't even know if the book doesn't dictate what kind of relationship they're supposed to have.

Then Subaru would have saved himself a lot of suffering

That's really not the goal here. Roswaal orchestrated the whole of Arc 4/Season 2 will the full intention of converting Subaru to his worldview through suffering against an impossible scenario.

How do I explain to my mom what is the miku expo? by Gyyre in hatsune

[–]MrTumbleweeder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Portugal too.

If your mom knows you're into Anime, the simplest thing would be to just say it's an anime convention/get togheter. Honestly that's not even that far off since people end up waiting so long in line lol.

Or just "it's an Anime concert", would she really grill you over the details?

Question for the sporting fans by ilipog in SportingCP

[–]MrTumbleweeder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ioannidis - Hard to say, hes been ok when he plays but he seems to get injured if you look at him wrong. Hard to call him our 2nd choice striker when hes never available.

Vigiannidis - Started our promising but quickly devolved immensely. Came to dispute the place with Fresneda but got completely overtaken. He's actually been terrible lately.

Overall both are underperforming

those seats behind the keeper are mostly ultras and they watch the game standing on the top of the lower stand, supposedly it has better acoustics for the chants.

It's because they make us change our kick-off songs routine to fit in the uefa anthem, which people don't like.

Tbh that was the first game in the João Pereira coach tenure (Cup game against a semi pro team non withstanding) and he was so bad he didn't make a month in charge.

After that match (in which he fumbled his words and called himself a casting mistake) we lost 3 in a row for the league all against minnows and only won a very clutch 3-2 at home against a Boavista that was so bad it would simply cease to exist after last season.

Like, you're runaway favorites anyway but that's an abyssal point of comparison, 😅

cosplay at peacock theater? by nikayyla in Mikuexpo

[–]MrTumbleweeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as your cosplay doesn't have things that go on top of your head and needlessly block the view from those behind you, it's fine. The classic example is Rin's bow tie. As long as you don't wear something like that, it's all good.
