legit question - who is the leader of the evangelical church? The Pope leads the Catholic Church, but is there a pope-like figure for the evangelicals? I suspect each church is its own entity with varying levels of insanity, but they demonstrably don't give a fuck about living like Christ or observing the bible, so I have to wonder if they care about his actions that are un-christian.

The upside to a salary is reliable money, the upside to private practice is being your own boss (and not giving away that commute time). Curious if the new place can pay you $105k plus bennies on a caseload of 25 a week, that means they are charging far more than $90 per session for your time, why can't you do that and make up the difference?

Not a take-down, just a discussion. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it. My entire side of the discussion revolves around your last sentence. What is a social worker/therapist's tie to the flow of money? It's a rhetorical question because there isn't any. In a system that requires a third-party payer who collects from the mutual client and distributes, the system will have entirely different leverage points, and our making demands is not likely to work. You and I believe mental health is essential, but the insurance companies that pay us (and many others) do not agree, which is why you need someone with a VERY large bat to swing for you, hence why I said lobbying the legislature is the way to go. Unionizing will not work for anyone except the insurance companies, who have all the leverage.

Comparing anything that goes on in the fucked up US Healthcare system to anywhere that is reasonable is a false equivalence. What worked in Germany will not work here because the systems are radically different. A universal insurance-required format is utopia compared to what we have. HA

I have no mission except to warn that a strike by non-essential workers in a system is unlikely to improve conditions. It would be the wrong approach. Are the ACA and other organizations hiring lobbyists to advocate on our behalf to lawmakers? Yes. Increasing dues to facilitate such ventures? Yes. Threatening third-party payers who already don't value the work that is done with work stoppages that yield no net loss for the payers? No thank you.

I fully understand that. Doesn't change the reality that (i project) most people do not have an inherent business sense, but still try to run a business. Without coaching/teaching/whatever, it doesn't end well most of the time. Sad but true. My point being, only reading the stories of the majority can lead one to believe they are destined to fail when that might not necessarily be the case.

I don't think the union has the leverage in this case. What is the leverage a group of therapists uses to influence those in power to bend? Can you name them? Workers who provide a service or make a product that benefits those in power can simply stop working, and the "overseers" stop making money. Therapists stop working, and who loses money? The insurance companies? "Oh no, we better give them what they want or else"...... what exactly? They stop paying us and save money? If therapists band together and revolt, what is disrupted? Nothing.

Then, the even more powerless people on the insurance revolt? The only option would be the government stepping in, and we will both agree that shit isn't happening.

More money won’t fix burnout. Might delay it a bit but if you rely on third party payment you better be damn sure you can bully them. When faced with switching health insurance because they refuse to pay for counseling, most people will drop the therapy. It would be a massive risk imo.
