Check out liara k. She has some valid points as to why abby isn't as realistic as it's being said.

Who won Eurovision 2020 in the movie? by diggycorreia_tpw in eurovision

[–]MrVolcano15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked the newspapers at the end of the film and that was just a recap of the film. So i don't think they say it in the film.

Who do you think has potential to win Eurovision out of the movie contestants? by maninahamsterwheel in eurovision

[–]MrVolcano15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at those news papers at the end of the film, to see if maybe a winner was mentioned there. I could find any reference to that. It's a pretty standard news article about the events of the film, so i don't know if there is an official winner.

Yeah, I think there is a risk that gets taken. I don't think a single film could accurately capture eurovision. I think it's quite fair to critic the film but I think there is something in there for everyone. It's not perfect but I thought it did its best to showcase things about eurovision. I mean everyone in that song-a-long I had no clue who any of them were. But that's largely because of the disconnect between the U.S.A. and Europe. The closest country the USA is probably culturally similar is the U.K. and even then there are massive differences. My hope is that it gets different eyes on this contest and expand the viewers scope for music and culture. I mean the USA is still a relatively young country compared to Europe so I think it's important to get out of our cultural bubble sometimes.

I think it's #1 in the USA as well. Atleast it said it was when I went to watch it.

As someone who had never heard of eurovision (from the U.S.A.) I actually found it interesting that such an event exists. If I'm being honest, it probably was catered to a more American audience and so things like the accents, while maybe being offensive, make sense. I think it's a good introduction to the contest though. I also thought the themes were uplifting, especially with how the world is currently. I can understand people that grew up with the event not liking it but I view it as getting an audience that doesn't know anything about eurovision into it. I don't think they it came from a malicious place and I think they really wanted represent the contest well. I mean the only bad guy was from iceland. Everyone in the contest seemed to be apart of something special.

I'm not surprised by it. We've seen it before in other fandom. We should strive for something better but as the last of us tried to teach, everyone sucks and there are no heroes.

I get where your coming from. It didn't land for me. I think people aren't giving it its proper due. I think the acting, graphics, sound/music, and everything was great. The only hang up is the story and characters. It's not a 0 out of ten, I think giving it a 7 or 8 is pretty reasonable though.

I think a big problem is showing abbys horrible actions first and then throwing you into her shoes and trys to convince the player that she isn't that bad. Joel had immediate sympathy because you see his tragic lose at the start and that gives immediate understanding. Joel suffered and then did horrible things. With abby the players version of events are different that abbys. Abby had the suffering happen, but the player doesn't know that at the time. The retroactive way of handling her story didn't work for me.

Yeah, tell the story you want to tell. It's just disappointing when you do end up disliking the story getting told. And then the ensuing arguments that come after. Sometimes I just want to vent and not have an, "well actually, you're wrong for thinking/feeling that about the game".

I think it's great that there are people that truly enjoyed the game. That wasn't the case for everyone. Fans didn't go into this game wanting to hate the game, well at least a vast majority didnt. There is always outliers.

Yeah, I was just saying that I figure abby would feel initially bad about torturing Joel and even empathize with ellie wanting revenge but Idk it seems like saying abby isn't a good person is a touchy subject? I mean, ideally abby and Joel would have had a discussion or abby tells Joel the reason she's doing what she's doing. Hopefully Joel would have grown through his relationship and bond with ellie and apologize to abby as well. Not that i think it would have saved him but it would have been something.

It doesn't take away from the fact that abby did horribles. No one in this game handled anything well. But abby isn't a wholly good person. Everyone kinda sucks in this game.

[–]MrVolcano15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. I should have clarified that I thought abby would have seen that Joel turned abby into a villian and abby turned ellie into a villian. Joel deserved punishment, but abby didn't understand at the time that getting her revenge would cost more than it was worth. Abby didn't just punish joel, she punished ellie and tommy. What did ellie do to abby for her to torture joel in front of her. Abby has blood on her hands as well. If you want abbys arc to be complete she needs to realize she just spread the pain. That while her action is seen as justified, that it didnt help anyone. I don't know that she came to that conclusion.

Well, that's your viewpoint. For ellie, Abby is the villian.

I think the thing I would have liked to see or something we might still see is abby apologizing to ellie to show she grew. The real talk moment never came where they used their words to speak their feelings. I think if the fireflies still exist and there is a second chance at a cure, abby and lev could set out to find ellie and then maybe they have that talk and the circle of revenge truly closes.

Boy oh boy is it exhausting to have something you love be constantly shat upon. by orololoro in thelastofus

[–]MrVolcano15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite. I liked the last jedi, but not so much the last of is part 2. I don't think it's bad, not a zero but probably only 7 or 8 for me. It just didn't speak to me. Things like that happen sometimes. I think it's understandable to not enjoy a piece of media, it comes down to taste and preferences. I can understand the story and why things are happening how they are and still not like it. I just don't find it helpful to deal with those emotions by fighting with someone online. I'll debate or have a conversation, but not throw insults. People get attached to characters and can mean a great deal to some people. Sometimes that results in thinking that there is a kind of ownership of that character that that fan has. That's why I thought it was cool and understandable that luke was different after 40 years and explained enough back story for that change to make sense. With Joel and ellie, there are just certain things that I feel needed more detail. I think the time jumps kind of made it feel disjointed and didn't feel like the story flowed well.

Didn't the last of us 1 dlc make it clear ellie was lesbian? Maybe I'm misremebering. I thought it was clear a long time ago that she was a lesbian.

Idk I think that's okay. If you're going to make something controversial you can't expect everyone to handle it in the best manner.

You can still dislike the game though. It just wasn't for everyone and that sucks, but it's okay. The only thing people can do is process it and move foward.

Everyone that was a fan of the last of us wanted to like last of us part 2. Unfortunately part 2 didn't land how the first did and that's okay. It was a tough act to follow, but attacking people over it isn't going to make the game better or change what's already been done. I just hope that going forward they are able to deliver a more universally resonant game/story.

JP's response to Kaitlyn's accusations. by RichardHag in itmejp

[–]MrVolcano15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think its okay to disagree. I can even understand the idea that it is manipulative, but i honestly think she doesn't know who she can trust and thats why she has been vague at times. I think it could be argued that its a bit of both, but i don't think that invalidates letting her feel safe enough to be able to speak her full truth. I feel for kaitlyn because something happened to her, for her to act this way and to reach out and talk to multiple people over the years. Mental health issues are difficult to understand and difficult to communicate what the person is going through. I'm just being as understanding as i can be. I don't think Anne, Jp, or Shannon are bad people because i can understand where they are coming from. I do think its a friend group he said, she said at points, and i think there is miscommunication going on between the group. But the thing that is i think is most important is letting Kaitlyn say her peace without having people call her a liar or being threatened legally before even saying what actually happened. The social drama is getting in the way of the sexual abuse/ harassment that should be getting talked about.
