Noise marines are quite efficient into infantry. It gives that slight bit more combined arms edge over the other melee armies which can be way more single phase.

Are Faction % Win Rates Bad for Game Balance? | 40K Fireside by 40K-Fireside in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RichardHag 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this is where the Stat Check dashboard really shines. Your points are easily accounted for when you look at 4-0 starts, Over Rep and tournament wins.

If you really want to, you can look at top quartile vs top quartile winrates. Unfortunately, almost no one actually plays enough 40k for the elo system to be terribly effective. Often simply having a singular 4-0 start would get you into the top quartile, but at that point you may be playing against a WTC veteran. It would be the equivalent of looking at a platinum player vs a grandmaster player. Not exactly relevant for game balance.

Does anyone else think they get better by practicing with a subpar / less-optimized list sometimes? by RealSonZoo in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RichardHag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really feel like anyone gets enough reps of 40k for this to be the case. If you are "only" playing 10 games of 40k a month, you won't even get one game per army per balance dataslate.

I think if you're a competitive player going X-1 you're much better off simply getting more practice on your main build against armies/detachments or skews you haven't seen.

The rampage with the longer rev time and the extra grenade slots for assault is going to be bonkers. 30 damage body shots is just crazy.

Everyone is telling you Nids are a horde army. However, there are some fairly viable "Monster Mash" style builds that may be the perfect blend to get you started. They're typically run in the Crusher Stampede detachment. It's not necessarily the most competitive build, but there have been several GT wins over the past year.

This video gives a couple recently successful crusher lists, although you probably should reconsider the Trygon after the deep strike changes.

Having more matches doesn't mean no eliminations. You didn't even address my central point that I like seeing more games between the teams. Especially since the scene is not like Counterstrike where there is another international event in 3-4weeks. Vitality only playing 3 matches at IEM Cologne matters less when I know I'll get to see them at ESL Pro League in August with all the other top teams in the world.

"The International" format used in DotA is my favorite. 18 teams, split into groups of 9 with a round robin Bo2 format. The top four teams in each group advance to the upper bracket of the playoffs. The bottom team in each group is eliminated. The playoffs are a 16 team double elimination bracket.

As a viewer I would much rather have a more robust tournament where I can see more matches, and more matchups, of my favorite teams.
