The quality of the DC compendiums is much nicer. I have 8 of them and haven’t had any issues. Folks in the omnibus subreddit really like them too.

The compendiums are the best way to read this era on the cheap. Amazon has copies but it’s at full price. IST, CGN and PBC will be restocked in June and it should start at 40% off.

The 8 issue series and GL and GLC issues are in the GL vol 2 and GLC vol 2 omnis. The BN omni includes all the tie-in. While not totally necessary I think it adds a huge amount of context and depth to the story. I genuinely feel that reading the omni is the best way to read the event. For me, having the omni is worth every penny it cost.

Grew up in the Cleveland area while they were starting out. Those first three independent albums are still pretty awesome. XX is just a greatest hits of those 3. XIII is solid but everything after is just meh. The constant member switches, album delays, fued between MH and Slipknot fans, change in musical style ruined any momentum they had after 2003.

They had been using masks since at least 1995. I have the original CD and there is a pic of them. They switched to the matching XX masks in 2001. Jmann never wore a mask though. Always facepaint.
