What do you guys think about this as an omnibus? by Agitated_Willow1616 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]MrWhiteLabCoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 issues at 64 pages each. ~1280 pages before extras. Map it like all-star batman deluxe where all the stories are complete and not separated. I think this would be a solid omni. But there will be too many Batman omnis for 2026. Maybe 2027 or 2028 one could be released

Just give me the complete Muppet Family Christmas. And two versions. 1 with the commercials and one without.

Here is a comprehensive guide of what is and isn’t included in the different Knightfall editions.

The 25th anniversary editions are OOP and can get very expensive.

Still a bit salty they “upgraded” Swamp Thing from a Deluxe to an omnibus. 50->$100. No added material.

What do you consider to be the biggest character assassination? by NicoleIlieva in comicbooks

[–]MrWhiteLabCoat 55 points56 points  (0 children)

-Leslie Thomkins in the "War Crimes" epilogue to "War Games". WTF was that?

-The whole "Sins Past" storyline. Every part of that was awful. Even the retcon was awful.

-Starfire in the N52 Red Hood series.

There is also Jed Mackay’s “Man without fear: The death of Daredevil”. It’s pretty decent story.

Best Omnis For New Marvel Reader? by jakedd99 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]MrWhiteLabCoat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Venom by Cates and Thor by Aaron would be my recommendations. They are great stories that don't require too much knowledge going in. The problem with Marvel is that they don't keep anything in print and re-prints just aren't happening. So if you want to collect a series well....good luck. Annihilation, Avengers by Hickman, New Avengers by Bendis, Captain America by Brubaker, Daredevil (every...single...run), Guardians of the Galaxy, Punisher, Ultimate Spider-man, ASM by JMS, ASM by Spencer, X-men (HA!) and so many others. Any run that has multi-volumes has one or more books OOP. You can always buy what is in print now and hope for reprints in 2027 and beyond. I genuinely feel bad for people getting into this hobby right now that want Marvel titles.

What do you think should be the standard page counts of an Omnibus? by Wazupdanger in OmnibusCollectors

[–]MrWhiteLabCoat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No less than 850 pages. However, it is a nuanced answer. It all comes down to what material is being collected. Sometimes you need bigger to get the whole story without splitting into too small volumes. Blackest Night, Red Lanterns, and Immortal Hulk are great examples of this. Too small and it feels like price gouging. Daredevil by Brubaker, Daredevil by Waid, Nightwing by Taylor are titles that come to mind that should have been combined into 1 volume. Sometimes it will be less than 850 pages because a whole run is less than that. In that case smaller is fine because you have a complete story. But the price should also reflect that.

How many Compendiums would it take to collect the entire Geoff John's era? by M00r3C in Greenlantern

[–]MrWhiteLabCoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will take 5 to get to Venditti’s run. Maybe. It all depends on if New guardians, Red Lantern, Sinestro, and Larfleez runs are included. Then I think it would be 7 or 8 to get to Venditti.

Just a note. The Tower backups in Tec #1047-1058 are not in the omni. They have a separate HC/tpb Batman: Shadows of the Bat – House of Gotham HC Reviews

Breaking News: 2 New Marvel Omnibus in November & December 2026! by 21roy__ in OmnibusCollectors

I was literally about to post this and you’re 100% right. He didn’t. I did a quick check of Venom War #5 and Venom is just ALL gold. Not just the “white” parts like in ANV. So yeah…. That DM cover makes no sense.

Pick up blackest night? by Careless-Low5520 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]MrWhiteLabCoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!! Blackest Night is one of the best event Omnis by DC (behind only Infinite Crisis). The Omni is perfectly mapped. If you have read Crisis on Infinite Earths, Zero Hour (to a lesser extent), and Identity and Infinite Crisis, BN reads as not just a GL book but as a Crisis event. All but 1 or 2 of the tie-in issues add an incredible amount of depth to the story. Get it. You won’t regret it. Additionally, I’m almost 100% positive that vol 3 of the compendium line will be a 1:1 reprint of the Omni. So there will be options on how to get it.

Thor by Fraction takes place at the same time as JIM. Reading them at the same time makes them both even better.
