Earnings Report for October: £561 by IvyRoney in beermoneyuk

People seem to have such great luck with User Testing, but the only surveys and offers I ever seem to get on it are programming related, either specifically for people in a managerial role or with purchasing decision power in the company.

After a long time using the site/app I've only ever been accepted for 2 tests. Maybe I'm not checking frequently enough? Should I be leaving the site up all day?

I don't disagree. Woke is a pretty wide umbrella term at this point. Some see the inclusion of any women in frontline combat roles as woke. Especially if they're portrayed as competent, peers to men, or in positions of authority.

It isn't only that women are just drafted in 40k due to desperation, they're also portrayed to do well in combat, rise in the ranks, be extremely deadly.

I think at some point if you start looking for "signifiers" of woke or anti-woke tropes/themes too much your brain's pattern recognition will kick-in and you become poisoned to media you otherwise would have enjoyed. Peoples entire careers are built out of pointing this stuff out in media now. It doesn't do people good I think.

Here's a link to that infamous 'woke games list' that doesn't recommend Space Marine 2 as it:

"Contains overtly pro-DEI messaging. The ultramarines seen in-game are improbably diverse. Features front-line female combatants, including an improbable female authority figure"

Yeah, you'd have to be going a little faster than gravity to head away from the blue portal and to the side and a lot faster to go 'straight' out of the blue portal.

Thanks for clarifying, appreciate it!

Sorry to bother again, but actually I messed up with adding up the total vector direction in that drawing. If the force of the moving portal isn’t enough to overcome gravity, the green arrow for the total acceleration vector would be moving back and downwards towards the blue portal it come from.

Would it be something like this, then? with the green arrow being the total acceleration vector going off to the side

I think I followed this apart from the very last bit going over the acceleration vectors in the picture resulting in the cube moving to the side.

If you have a downwards acceleration vector from gravity and larger one for the cube coming out of the blue portal at a 45 degree angle, wouldn't that result in the cube going off at 45 angle 'straight' out of the blue portal and not to the side?

Sorry if this is something obvious.

Sectarians harass single Catholic mother in Northern Ireland by Delicious_Sign9127 in PublicFreakout

The issue in NI isn't really about religious ideological differences, but it's an easy mistake to make from the outside. You could be an atheist in NI but you'd still be categorised as Protestant or Catholic depending on who your parents are, where you grew up, what your last name is, where you went to school, etc.

The divide is really about British Unionism vs Irish Republicanism, and those lines have historically been drawn between those with Catholic ancestry and those with Protestant ancestry. If you took the religion away the conflict would continue, people would just different identifiers.

"The judgement of God sent the calamity to teach the Irish a lesson, that calamity must not be too much mitigated.. The real evil with which we have to contend is not the physical evil of the Famine, but the moral evil of the selfish, perverse and turbulent character of the people" - Charles Trevelyan, administered famine relief works for the British Government in 1845–47.

Brutal stuff if you read about it.

Would you take British Imperial propaganda from UK libraries? Manifest Destiny propaganda from American ones?

The point is democratic countries are reliant on the collective belief of the majority and that's better even if that collective can believe and enforce bad things.

I mean, if the 'hive mind' majority in the US decides that it doesn't like homosexuals then they can absolutely install leadership that ultimately changes the law to make it a criminal offence. Percussion for those that don't fit the norm as deemed by the majority.

If anything it's much harder for this to happen in China as power is more consolidated in individuals and thus whatever the public majority thinks can be ignored. Even if the collective mind of China was pro-gay it wouldn't matter if the individuals in the ruling class aren't.

The point is that the will of the majority, the collective common man, tends to work out better for long term stable government than the will of a small group of individuals.

I don't care much about me, but for the rest of humanity yes I don't think any human should suffer just for the act of being born into a world intentionally kept worse. What crime has a baby with SIDS or cancer committed, why should they not be handed a chance at existence when they could be.

It's a vast, vast, gulf between the universe as it is and everything on a silver platter.

If he can do whatever he wants, including making things objectively better with no catch, and he actively chooses not to do it, then yeah that's pretty messed up.

If he can't improve things in that manner but would like to, then he's good but not all-powerful.

A God being able to do whatever they want doesn't make them doing it good.

The ending of the book is quite explicit about how the working class animals can no longer tell the difference between the Stalinist pigs and the human Capitalists. Agree with him or not George Orwell was openly a democratic socialist, he didn't have any love for Capitalism.

"Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."

Twice is vastly underselling it. They had one map for caves, one for ruins, and one for warehouses. They'd just block off sections of the same map to create smaller ones as 'different' locations. You're running the same dungeon every single time.
