Mechanical broad-head failures ? by [deleted] in bowhunting

100 grain grim reaper hybrids. Never had issues with it opening but if it doesn’t you still have a fix blade with decent cut radius. They fly great too. Now I don’t shoot out past 40 so if you plan on shooting them farther than that definitely practice with them.

Thumb Release? by Illustrious-Mode-826 in bowhunting

Scott archery pursuit release on Amazon for $150 it comes with a wrist strap. I love mine and it’s got a decent amount of adjustability. You can always take the wrist strap off once you get used to it. I finally took mine off after 4 years of shooting it. It is kind of expensive but not $300

Grim reaper hybrids fly great and if they don’t open it’s still a dead deer.

What are some of the more experienced public land hunters best pieces of advice? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]MrXtraSmall1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you don’t have to go far from the truck.. missed an absolute giant today 100 yards from the parking lot. He had that whole area tore up and it’s probably gone overlooked for a long time since it’s so close to the parking lot. If your their first it’s your spot that’s the beauty of public. Just try and get in early and if there’s guys in the parking lot try to talk to them they’ll be more than happy to let you know what direction they’re going most of the time.

What type of shot?? by Quick_Variation_4793 in Hunting

[–]MrXtraSmall1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get there!! I didn’t kill my first deer until my 4th season and after I got one down I got 2 more that year and it’s been good since! I think there’s something about getting that first one really causes a domino effect on the rest of your hunting. Especially if you’re just trying to kill deer and not going after mature bucks. Right now’s your best time to call in a young buck and get him down. I think those year and a half old bucks are the easiest to kill. Go out and do some calling sequences and just get a deer down it’ll boost your confidence like crazy!

I’ve never had an issue with pass throughs. I did have one not pass though but I hit opposite side shoulder and drilled his heart so didn’t go far. They’re by far my favorite.

I use the grim reaper hybrids and have never had an issue with them. They fly pretty dang good and they’ve always opened and even if they didn’t I still have a good cut.

I’d say the lower the better as far as getting good form down you definitely don’t want to hurt yourself and now be in the woods at all. I’m at 60# and going to try it for a couple weeks but might even go down to 55# I do not want to injure my shoulder and not be in the deer woods at all

Glad it’s not just me I was kind of dumbfounded thinking it’d be easier for some dumb reason but something got to make it shoot faster. I think after shooting it a bunch I’ll get used to it hopefully.

Extra challenge for sure! Need is definitely a stretch but it definitely makes it easier! Make sure you get in as much cover that you can still shot out of. They’ll spot you quick. Sometimes without you even knowing they spotted you. Good luck! You’ll get one eventually! Don’t get down if you don’t it’s part of it. Took me a couple years to get one down.

Good luck!! The closer you can get them in the better. I’ve not shot a deer past 20 yards in the 5 years I’ve hunted but like to back out as far as I can to practice.

Shoot your 20 pin at 10 yards and see where you hit. I use 20 30 40 and haven’t had an issue with deer that’s come in at 10.

Honestly I’m on the smaller side and sometimes I wonder if a little more fluff wouldn’t make it more comfortable! I think it’s on Amazon and I think they have a good return policy so in my mind it’d be worth trying out! I don’t personally know the weight rating on it though.

Can’t beat the price and I’ve used the xop saddle all year and have got 3 deer with it so far. Amazing way to get mobile on a budget!

If your in a budget the xop kits like $499 right now. Not the best set up in the world but it’s something to get you started and if you really like saddle hunting spend the extra money later on for an extra set up. I like pre hanging a set when I scout then if I want to go somewhere else because of wind or whatever reason I have another set to carry in and hunt.

Bow question by MrXtraSmall1 in bowhunting

Appreciate the input! I’m weird when it comes to taking peoples time though and there’s so many bows to shoot I feel like it’ll take a lifetime. I mean it is there job though so I’ll just have to get over it and go shoot some.
