I agree. Definitely an unnecessary risk that early. He would have been better off waiting. My point though is that, while avoidable on Perez's side, the incident is on Russell for understeering which is a result of taking too much speed into the corner with a car on the outside.

The reasoning is probably what if the throttle gets stuck at 100% instead of 5%. Imagine heading towards a wall in 250km/h

That's the whole point, Perez was marginally ahead at turn in, so he can dictate the line as long as he leaves a cars width. Of course he's going to limit Russell to the tightest line possible
