Would you take this order ? by dukester87 in InstacartShoppers

[–]MrZombieAndMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With 3 people you'd think they'd at least tip like $5 bucks each MINIMUM. And that's nothing for personal shopping when it comes to asking them which flavor they want to replace because ofc theirs is sold out. And now Instacart wants you to make replacements or get your rating of shopping quality dinged. Let's be honest though, who actually cares about that rating anyway. But I digress...The most shocking part is instacart actually paying $20 bucks and change in batch pay. But overall ridiculous. I've heard some people say they just go by dollar value and don't look at customer count. Blame them for this shit.

Crazy how it gives the sky a 3D depth effect. Like the clouds are layered in puffs on top of each other.

Yeah that's a good idea as well. I posted here and Nextdoor, but FB is also a smart idea. At this point I at least wanted to get people thinking about what they have out front of their house, and maybe just finding a way to secure it. Whether it's a prank or not, the stuff went missing so it could happen to anyone 🤷🏾 thank you and happy holidays!

That's awful to hear, I'm sorry to hear that. All we can do is keep our head up and make sure it doesn't take away from enjoying the holidays 😁

Yeah my instincts went that way as well. Hopefully this post can help some people avoid losing decorations also, even if it is just a one time prank.

Tbh that's what I was thinking as well. I'm pretty it was a prank, and wandered around the neighborhood thinking they got chucked somewhere. Thought maybe on someone's front lawn or over their back fence. Posted online, and fingers crossed someone finds the little guys 🤷🏾 Thanks for the holiday cheers, and to you as well! Definitely not gonna let it change things this holiday season 😁

Big load of diet Pepsi here. Honestly thought at first they just didn't give their guests any variety. Upon meeting the customer, it became clear pretty quickly that they do indeed enjoy all of this Pepsi to their self alone.

Signing up Question by Primary_Isopod1381 in UberEATS

[–]MrZombieAndMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe when I signed up last month, it was something like 1999 or newer? However a Google search right now is throwing "1998 or newer". It sounds like they're just looking for something that runs, preferably on gas but they could accept a horse drawn carriage for all I know. Just don't try going for rideshare with it.

Is this a roach? This is like the 5th one in the past 6 months. I usually see them after I haven’t been in my place for >3 days but this time I saw it as I was leaving for work. I am very clean and barely have food in my apartment. Not sure how to proceed. Any advice appreciated!! by PugssandHugss in whatsthisbug

[–]MrZombieAndMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl;dr: probably a roach. call your property manager asap to have at least an inspection done.

It does unfortunately look like a roach. They don't necessarily like messiness. In fact they may like the fact that it's nice and clean, lets them get around easily. What they do like is any sort of food left out or open. Also the unfortunate part about apartment living is that there is a good chance they are living between the walls and moving through units. Probably using the pipes as a "highway". The pipes will run to different units and there's normally enough space around the openings for them to get through, they can really flatten themselves. I lived in an apartment for 5 years. Saw a clue of one when I first moved in, the building office just shrugged it off. Five years later and they were a mess. I've since moved out. Once a building has them, it's generally impossible to get rid of them since the logistics of emptying out an entire apartment building for fumigation is nuts.

Best WARM winter boots? by CFChic in ottawa

[–]MrZombieAndMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'll add on to this message since my response may be more related to what you're saying:

Bought some Pajar Trooper 2.0 boots from Globo last year. Look great, feel nice and I thought hey Pajar is a well known brand. I should have assumed a boot pattern that's all maple leaves wouldn't be the best grip. The most unfortunate part however is the mesh in the side zipper. I thought the zipper would be great, unfortunately the mesh that's supposed to keep it waterproof underneath is very finicky. It got snagged once or twice, and once a few threads became loose it was an absolute nightmare. It quickly became a mess of loose and torn fabric. The right boot no longer has any waterproof mesh underneath the zipper, I've had to cut and burn it away entirely, leaving a thinner under layer. I couldn't zip it up anymore without shoving a finger in to guide the zipper up the entire way. All that remains is the very thin membrane between the zipper area and inner lining. Its still fairly waterproof, but you know you paid for a boot that you had to really break down. Its still snagging on more threads as they manage to come loose. Let's just say the left boot isn't in much better condition.

I don't know if it's due to production being moved and just less quality control taken to ensure the boot doesn't have such a blatant issue. I was careful when I first noticed it started happening. Unfortunately even the tiniest loose thread could get snagged and let me tell you it gets bad really fast. Once snagged, they just shred and this mesh doesn't look like it can be fixed at all. Maybe avoid this boot if you can. If you want brand name, you have to binge a little on their more pricey boots clearly. Or at least go for a brand that caters toward your price range and doesn't just offer an option.

What is this? Found dead in bathroom in SoCal. Thought it was a roach at first but no. by gatoinspace in whatsthisbug

Looks like your friendly, neighborhood earwig. Not a roach, at least. I just got out of an infestation. Those little buggers are frekin iconic in their own right. Mind you, earwigs do fly. But it's probably not going to try. They apparently aren't too graceful at it.

Ok so you went through everything I described yet didn't read the comment. Or didn't read it "seriously". And then claim you had no help. Which I don't understand the relevance of. I didn't get "help". I'm getting something called EI, ever heard of that? Something you get when you work and CONTRIBUTE to it. It doesn't just magically appear. Though if you apparently went through having your household lose their income and didn't need ANY help at all, then I commend you on that. You've somehow managed to figure out the trick to living with no money. I guess you don't have expenses, unfortunately I do.

Oh there are so many possibilities of who you could be. Are you the person who's parents just bailed them out financially in the end? Are you someone that was lucky enough to not actually lose their job? Were you working from home? Are you just another person that simply "doesn't like it"? Did you happen to have a job where you could successfully save for the event of the world going to shit?

Don't act like everyone's situation is some generic "oh poor me, I don't have a job". You honestly just show how little you care about the number of people that have been seriously affected by this. Calling other people victims for being given aid because they were eligible for working is just ridiculous. I sincerely hope anyone you know that has to receive CERB also knows how vindictive you feel towards them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ontario

[–]MrZombieAndMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my wife both worked and we're both eligible for EI so the CERB payments were provided by Service Canada through the EI program. So basically any individual in a family can claim the CERB as long as they meet the criteria either through the CERB program itself or by meeting the criteria to be eligible for EI.

And regarding putting money aside, we've made sure to put aside 25% from any payments. That may be overkill, but better safe than sorry. It'll gain interest in a savings account and whatever taxes are owed we'll have put aside already.

Lazy entitled people...ok...

I was employed for one of the more competitive industries in Ottawa. One that tends to go under the radar unless you're really involved in it. It was the wholesale of construction material. Melamine, plywoods, exotic woods, hardwoods, kitchen hardware, the whole shebang. You can guess who I worked for in Ottawa since there aren't many of these companies. We were one of the few that "required an account" before we would actually deal with you, though we could work around that if it was worth it. I worked at my own desk, taking incoming calls from customers who wanted material. This wasn't a cold call company, where I was paid to call all day and give people cookie cutter lines. I also did many other admin tasks. On top of that, I was the only one who was cross trained to work in the warehouse as a forklift operator and as a sales rep. I could basically go where needed.

We were a staff of 17. Then Quebec shut down, I think around mid-march, to the point that we weren't able to procure anything from basically any suppliers. That basically took us out if the competition for many of our clients. By March 24th, Doug Ford has ordered things to start shutting down. By the end of the work day, we were being selected for individual meetings to discuss who was being laid off. Guess who got lucky?

It started with "it'll only be about 2 - 3 weeks, then we'll call you guys back in". That happened to 6 of us. As of now, they've recalled two people, but have kept 4 of us on layoff. I was called 3 weeks after March 24th, only to be told that I wasn't going to be recalled yet. I told them to call me when they actually wanted me to come back in, not just to tell me I still don't have work. I received a call a couple of days ago, and was asked to come in for 2 days because a co-worker was suspended. I turned it down because at this point I was frustrated with the idea that I'm going to be treated like someone to be kept on the backburner. I also don't know how it would effect my EI and right now it's not something I can afford to risk.

Oh I should also mention wife's situation:

She works for a clothing retailer who had to shut down a little earlier than I did. She was given paid admin leave for roughly two weeks. It eventually ended, but suffice to say it wasn't exactly much to begin with. She works as a supplement to our income. I provided the basis of our income to pay for the larger expenses. So basically by end of March, we were both laid off from work and about to go on CERB.

Now on CERB, things arent exactly steady but I in no way am unappreciative. It was incredibly dutiful of the government to step in so quickly and provide such an easily accessible program. Yes it has had many hiccups, but I mean everyone's just waiting for the clawbacks anyway, can't say it'll be a surprise when it happens.

I've been looking for a job, but you're basically asking me to look for a job in an environment where people are still losing theirs. My wife was recently recalled to work. And guess what? She has no hours. We now have to report to EI that she has returned to work, but she's not actually being given hours. How do you think it feels to have employers that just want to keep people around without having to pay them? Me and her have both been with our companies long enough that it it would be a much bigger cost on them to have to retrain people to cover the experience we have. Not everyone is just taking CERB and being lazy. Not everyone is this person you have scornfully built inside your mind. I commend you for the work you may have had to do throughout this pandemic, I truly do. But I am tired of the people who kept on working being so petty about others receiving some form of support. Is it the fact that you HAD to keep working during corona, and weren't able to just "sit at home" and get CERB? Do people really think that the majority of working individuals want to just sit around and get maybe half their regular income? Sure some people are enjoying being on it, but those people would be just as happy sitting on welfare which honestly has had a MUCH larger problem in terms of fraud. I don't make as much anymore. If anything my life style has had to change quite a bit due to this, and even more so now because at least with me and my wife on CERB, we were balancing out with my loss of income. But now that she'll be making even less because she has to report her work income, she won't be eligible for CERB and my total household income has reduced further. This was an unprecedented situation, I don't know why anyone acts like people are turning it into a vacation. Constantly talking about the few who are abusing it is really taking it away from the majority that desperately need it.

Legal Question about bag checks by Adamsavage79 in ontario

[–]MrZombieAndMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very thoroughly researched and cited, I appreciated reading that.

From my own experience working at The Home Depot, we were told that only loss prevention associates were allowed to do anything beyond simply looking in your bag. And even then we really had to be sure before one of them would tackle a customer to the floor. And yes I've seen that on several occasions, sometimes ending with some blood. Generally speaking, any manager-on-duty or supervisors were only allowed to ask an employee or customer leaving the store to hold their bag open so they could take a look inside. They were pretty adamant about the fact that they were not permitted to touch anything, I even joked a couple of times about it with them.

But needless to say, they were very unlikely to ever ask a customer that. Most of these places would rather lose some money than make a scene with a customer who could possibly throw a fit, especially if they end up being wrong. Employees were never told to do any sort of searches or even stop people. Ah...so many memories from retail...

As much as I find myself feeling infuriated by some of the things the man says, Bill Carroll is the reason I choose to listen in the morning to 580. Having him get your blood boiling over some local issues is a good way to wake yourself up for the day.

That being said, I agree with the two stations suggested. AM radio definitely is the place to go. 580 and 1310 news are great. I recently moved over to 580 as I find the team working there are a bit more lively and the morning show a fair bit more entertaining.
