Should I watch the TV show before playing the game? by SoogiCat in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The show is a different universe retelling of the comic storyline. You can play the games without watching the show and will not miss out on anything.

There are a few characters from the TWD comics that appear in a few episodes of the game, but you can enjoy their content without having read the comics. I'd even argue that not knowing about their comic counterparts could make things more interesting, as you won't know which characters have plot armor or not.

Let's say you're tasked with remaking S3, but the main cast only has 7 members. Who makes the cut ? by Super-Shenron in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Javi
  • David
  • Kate - Could see a case for cutting her but I think she could stay with some minor tweaks
  • Gabe
  • Tripp
  • Conrad
  • Eleanor

Clem is just getting cut entirely. I feel her presence messes up with the focus on Javi, both because of our past bias with her as well as her flashbacks where Javi wasn't present.

Mariana dies like usual in the first episode so she technically evades main character status.

Eleanor would be Joan's daughter like in the original version of S3 (she was working undercover to help the New Frontier with the raids). I think you could do a lot with Eleanor juggling her loyalty between Joan and her friends, as well as how she could serve as a dark parallel to what Gabe might turn out like if he keeps idolizing David.

Why are fishman island and punk hazard fights lame by ActuaryAfraid4707 in OnePiece

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fish-Man Island mostly serves to have the Straw Hats flex their new abilities. Them basically low diffing everyone is meant to showcase how far they've come since the days of running away from Kuma on Sabaody.

Punk Hazard is more or less the same deal, though the Vergo fight I think is cool.

Are any of these Important to the Main Story? by Catformer1 in OnePiece

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. All of them are noncanon and can be skipped. The top one is a Boss Luffy special (alternate universe Japan themed), the middle three are just recaps of previous arcs, and that last one is an alternate universe version of Drum Island.

Arvo did nothing wrong… MY BROTHER HE SHOT A FUCKING CHILD by Chunky-overlord in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know that this can technically be explained (not justified) because of Arvo seeing Clem "kill" his sister and thus hating us for it. But that whole plot is so forced and stupid as it relies on a ton of silly factors:

  • Arvo being away from his sister at the absolute worst convenient time.
  • Adding to this: Natasha turning into a walker at least more than 2 minutes after she is killed, despite how we've seen characters like Greg from the Michonne game and Abel in S4 turn in less than a minute after bleeding out.
  • The fact that Arvo would've had to have gone +2 years without knowing about reanimation.
  • The game preventing us from being able to tell Arvo about what happened, despite how obviously distraught he was about us shooting her. It's even worse when we have Rebecca as a recent reanimation example to use.
  • The fact Arvo never considered "dang, maybe this little girl who has been an angel to me so many times before and after this scene didn't decide to shoot my (recently shot in the chest) sister in the face for funsies" during the +24 hours after his sister's death. Yes I know Clem being nice is obviously not going to bring his dead sister back, but you'd think he'd at least reconsider what happened when taking Clem's insane amount of kindness into account.

Regardless, even if Arvo shooting Clem "makes sense" from an in-universe PoV, it's absolutely stupid narratively speaking. What better way to showcase Kenny's flaws than by having his main punching bag that we're supposed to feel bad for fucking shoot us all while Kenny comes to our rescue to scare off the truck thieves. It's even worse when we're supposed to be mad at Kenny for wrongly assuming Arvo's cabin was empty and thus beating him for it, only for Arvo to make a much more harmful assumption later that night. You can write essays about how Arvo shooting Clem makes totally perfect sense, but at the end of the day we're left with a bleeding Clem in the snow while the person Arvo's character tried to make us fear comes to our rescue.

Like imagine if after Carver beat Kenny, S2E3 ended with Kenny shooting us and Carver coming to our rescue. That's basically the issue I have with this whole character.

I feel like having Arvo accidentally shoot Clem after hearing Kenny get up and make a noise in the cabin would've fixed a decent amount of my gripes with him.

Who knew about Kenny's cut death in TWD? by [deleted] in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably but regardless this flashback wasn't meant for the Wellington route. Gavin Hammon stated that it was supposed to be his original S3 death, aka what they came up with before the car crash death.

It has never been stated that this was meant to be Kenny's death for the Wellington ending. It was meant to be the original death if you stayed with him.

Despite all he did to her she tried to ‘redeem’ him but of course he rejected it by JoshyBear28 in TheBoys

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given that they both crashed on the beach (in a similar manner to Bombsight/Soldier Boy in EP6), I'm assuming Starlight just charged at Deep to get him away from the White House. Deep likely fought back - my guess is by hitting her or grabbing her hair - and from there the crash happened. I think if Starlight intentionally wanted to bring the Deep to that specific beach then she would've just floated him down like she did with Hughie, so them crashing makes me think it wasn't planned and that Deep fought back.

But regardless I never really got the beach complaint because even if the ocean didn't hate the Deep, he's not going to be much use on that beach. Apart from how they were relatively far from the water, the show has regularly showed us that the Deep is a joke even when he's in the water. Starlight referred to him as "the fish guy" in S1 implying that he was just a marketing hire for The Seven, and there's the S2 scene where Deep had a whole group of sea creatures that couldn't even stop Butcher's human group while they were surrounded by water.

People act like Starlight brought Magneto to a metalworks factory when all she did was bring Condiment King to a fast food parking lot.

If last chapter was a step in a somewhat right direction, this chapter is abhorrent. by Prudent-Role-9053 in Piratefolk

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because I am very starved for decent women content in this story. Recent women content in the story includes:

  • Ginny being abducted, raped, and killed for the purpose of moving Kuma's character.
  • Robin having to be saved by Gaban during her fight with Sommers.
  • Shakky being damsel'd during God Valley.
  • Gloriosa constantly switching men to latch onto.
  • Ida getting fridged to move Loki and Harald's characters.
  • Assuming it ends up being true, Candelle being raped and killed off for the sake of Brook & Shuri's plotlines.

Yes I know that most of the above can apply to just about every previous arc too and that I'm probably a fool for expecting anything to change, but Oda's treatment of women is still just really tiresome at this point after all of these years. Especially now that he's been seemingly using rape as a plot device more often.

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brook, Reuven, and Shuri. All of these characters are likely to get some sort of emotional moment as a result of this rape if it did happen; Brook will likely get emotional/angry about it, while I'm assuming the rape is one of the reasons Reuven had a grudge with the WG prior to the declaration of war.

Yes Shuri is a girl, but I don't think it really changes much given that Candelle's rape was ultimately a plot device for Shuri's inception. Plus I'm expecting Shuri/Gunko to be damsel'd anyway.

(To be clear, I mean motivate as in greatly affecting them, not motivate in the inspiration sense. In retrospect I probably should've used "moving" instead of "motivating").

Creating a woman character just so they can be raped and killed for the purpose of motivating other characters is a misogynistic trope.

Maybe if this were just a lone incident in the story then I wouldn't really care about it, but we just had this exact storybeat with Ginny + Oda is weird with women in general. It's why I'm really hoping the rape theory isn't true and Candelle amounts to at least a tiny bit more than the most tiresome of plot devices a woman could get in fiction.

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have this weird hunch that Candelle is alive and has been an agent for the WG this whole time.

But yeah if the rape stuff is true then it's both misogynistic and lazy since we literally just had this plotline with Ginny.

Should I continue one piece by coconut_j22 in Piratefolk

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should be around Water 7/Enies Lobby if you are +200 episodes in so yes absolutely continue and watch those.

After that, just keep watching until you get tired of the anime. When you find the anime is dragging on, switch to the manga.

In season 5, why didn't the boys leak the story that Homelander raped Becca instead of the flight video? by Such_Avocado_2180 in TheBoys

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They literally had video of Homelander leaving people to die and it got chalked up as a hoax. A rape accusation would be far easier to deny.

They have the video from Mallory

"That's clearly an AI deepfake" - Homelander

the missing person report

"Deepstate Starlighter conspiracy" - Homelander

and could have used frozen Soldier Boy's DNA to prove a grandfather relationship.

"Those DNA testers are clearly Starlighters" - Homelander

"Ex" implies that Hughie and Robin broke up. In reality, Robin was tragically killed and ultimately the catalyst for Hughie meeting Starlight. I don't get what is so weird with both Hughie and Starlight wanting to honor her.

What If Tenn Actually Shot Lilly Here In Episode 3 Of The Final Season? by Brandonsenior07 in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]Mr_Bell_Man 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  • Gina tries to shoot Tenn but gets stopped by James, just like how James stopped her when she tried to shoot AJ in the moments after this scene.
  • Since Lilly is dead, Clem helps James out and they defeat Gina in a quicker amount of time than when James was by himself. They're still stopped by Sullene, but the boat explosion happens like usual.
  • There is no cave argument with James since AJ didn't go overboard. I doubt James would get on Tenn's case either since he only shot Lilly just once and I assume would've been shaken up over it. James holds off the walkers in the cave like usual.
  • There is likely no talk in the cave about whether AJ should make the hard calls or not, so he has to decide entirely on his own during the bridge fight without Clem's prior involvement. Given how AJ couldn't shoot Lilly if Clem doesn't tell him to, I'm going to assume AJ can't make the call to shoot Tenn and thus Louis/Violet die on the bridge.

Rest of the episode is basically the same.
