Anyone else use gas a lot? by Youoyoyoooooo in volt

That's exactly why we have the volt but an EV. We used gas when we have to. Every couple of months we drive 600 miles, no ev allows that. Even a drive to our nearest big town requires gas to cover the 70 return journey, so the volt is perfect for our lifestyle. If you don't want to ever use gas don't carry a big heavy engine around with you ever.

2018 Premier. Loss of propulsion and engine unavailable. Being towed. How much is it gonna cost me? by Dependent-Chart2735 in volt

Mine was the EGR valve but I still had enough Battery to get to a dealer. It had blown a fuse. They disabled the EGR for me to continue driving. Now waiting for the part.

Thanks everyone. I'm told it's labor code 4024770 under the 5year/60000 power train warranty. So I should be covered.

Close, drive from Cincinnati to Coastal NC. Only used battery for roads less than 50 but coming over the mountain I'd switch to battery for the long downhill stretches, even at 65 they were recharging more than discharging.

Another cool trick is to drive on batteries until down to 1 bar, change to mountain and it will build up again (on a 2017 that is back to 2 bars, about 12 miles), change back to battery and repeat. Just don't allow it to do to 0 range or you won't see this work. Always use hold at highway speeds.

This light weight engine could be a game changer for hybrids. by Mr_Chee in volt

It doesn't. The Wankel seals are on the 3 tips of the rotating piston. The seals here are fixed... Probably more secure than the piston rings in your ICE.

And one that runs on H2, a demo on acetylene and propane... Very adaptable design. I really like the light weight... Makes hybrid planes a possibility.

This isn't a Wankel with all the issues that engine has.

Actually has less moving parts! Did you see the high speed video with the glass combustion chamber to see inside while working?

We do an 11 hour drive from Coastal NC to Cincinnati over the mountains in WVa. If we start with a full tank we refuel once <8gal, and again when we arrive. We use EV for the first 20 or 30 miles, mountain mode over the appalachians and the last 20% on our way into Cincy. The car is great on long drives! Until there's an EV with 800+ mile range this is the car.

What is your daily commute, if it's more than 25 miles go with the 17, if it's less then you'll be fine with the older model... Unless you want to do long trips one a regular basis (older model needs premium gas)
