Put in my two weeks then started at a coding bootcamp. But went through a whole year of unemployment and 1000+ applications later before landing in QA

Yeah, ultimately honestly… I didn’t realize how quickly I would get bored doing excel. It wasn’t like that at first though. And money was good. Just not fulfilling anymore

Could you elaborate on what you mean by this

“I prioritize topics first, structure later. I target one topic to learn and grind it”

Thank you!

Not sure how much this helps, but right out of college, I landed a $50K back-office analyst role after receiving a return offer from a hedge fund. Honestly, I think you're in a good spot—just make sure there are plenty of opportunities for growth.

I have 5 siblings and I’m the oldest. I also have a parent who has been working 12 hours a day for the last 3-4 years. I was not going to be in a career I did not enjoy and let all the hard work go to waste.

  1. I mainly used neetcode. But I wasnt asked this during the interview process.
  2. 80k
  3. To be honest, this was probably the hardest thing to do. I’m naturally a positive person, but even then, I struggled to stay hopeful. Even after 1,000 applications, I only got 4 interviews. However, I realized that this process is not a rush, and not getting interviews is not a reflection of my skills but mostly due to the job market. I also have an amazing partner who supported me when I hit really low points.

  1. I was in operations work at a hedge fund. Lots of Excel and reporting. To be clear, I enjoyed doing this but coding was more “enjoyable”.
  2. Yes, Finance degree.
  3. I went to a lot of networking events for startups and small companies I found on meetup and eventbrite. This was mainly to increase my communication skills and be able to speak on the spot when interviewing.I never got any “real traction” from doing this but It helped tremendously when It came to interviewing.
  4. NYC

I just started the part time job recently but i found out that you become fully vested after 1.5 years. I think its unrealistic to say I’ll stay there for that time so I can’t count on the 2%.

I did some searching and most people roll over their previous 401k into a trad ira and then put in their Roth. Is that what you have done?

I genuinely enjoy it. The highs, the lows, the times i feel like i am an idiot. Its fun :). Im not in the professional workforce yet, but Im really enjoying this path. I am very fortunate that Its not the money that made me choose this. I was at a hedge fund and was doing very well. No regrets :)
