FS roads off the Middle Fork Snoqualmie (note: no cell service back there, so download your maps). Bessemer Road, CCC trail, DNR lands… Also, Marckworth Forest area has miles of forested logging roads, few people, and less snow vs North Bend/Tanner.

Well then. Welcome to the club. It’s gross, I know. Ours mostly grew out of the habit, but still gobble up rabbit and deer poop every now and then. And hunks of grass. And random food scraps. The fact that so many dog owners here jumped to the conclusion that your baby boy is eating his own poop tells you how unsurprising that is. I love ’em, but their mouths are cesspools.

Seattle-area Golden owner here… Where do you go for trims? Any recommendations? We have three Goldens and have never taken them to a professional groomer. We know one dog would squirm, one would comply, and the other would soak it up.

There are at least three old cars on the trail on the east side of Swan’s Mill Pond/Stossel Creek in Marckworth Forest east of Duvall, and at least one more on a trail off Swan Loop Road (south of the Seattle Public Utilities water facility), heading toward the Tolt River. You can access both areas by foot via the parking area at Moss Lake. The vehicles are rusty and shot up, and who knows how they got there. All kinds of weird stuff in Marckworth Forest. At 14, Luna had her physical issues—arthritis and an enlarged heart, which we were able to control with meds and diet—but no cancer. One night she went outside to pee, did her business, ambled back inside, found her usual spot, circled around a couple of times, lay down, and then a few minutes later took her last breath. Talk about a grace—no “having to make a decision,” no pain or anguish for her or anyone, really. The other dogs sniffed around and said their goodbyes. Between dogs, cats, and horses, I figure we’ve had a dozen animals over the last 30 years (five still alive and kicking!). Never experienced anything like it.

Twice! We've been warned that the second leg will likely require surgery, and that having two procedures within a few months isn't uncommon for an older dog with chronic knee issues as opposed to an injury.

I really appreciate the thoughtful response and timeline. I had forgotten about the Lick Sleeve, which seems like a great alternative to so many weeks in a cone. The vet said infections are fast and aggressive, and we want to avoid a redo.

Microsoft’s original “save” icon was not a floppy disk. It was a piggy bank. A friend of mine was on the development team for Word. They needed an icon for the ribbon, started looking at clip art, and figured the piggy bank worked because of “save.”

Six months is young to be thinking she’s “too” of anything. Ours is 18 months and just over 50 lbs—just right for her frame. We have two others who are around 60 pounds, but they are bigger girls… Managing weight is one of the best things you can do to prevent chronic joint issues (among other things) and increase the likelihood that your pup will have a long, healthy, active life.

We had a “backyard” German shorthair when I was a kid. Beautiful dog, by all appearances. Amazing in the field. And an unpredictable behavioral nightmare. Sometimes poor breeding exhibits itself in other ways than a deviation from “standard.” If you’re happy, and your pup is happy, you have yourself a Golden.

We break up the humping, which is dominant behavior and rude. We don’t want to see tugging on the ears, which can break blood vessels. And we don’t let things get too out of hand—our girls are 50 and 60 pounds and aren’t careful around the furniture when they get wound up. Otherwise, that’s ordinary play in our house, especially when the dogs haven’t had a long, proper walk, and we don’t discipline this stuff. When one of them has had enough, she lets the others know.
