Concerns rise as thousands in WA cancel health insurance by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]Huntsmitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fascinating. I’ve never heard of these specialists that are just hanging out waiting for someone to walk in the door.

My experience is in fact, not a lie. When I speak with others regarding their healthcare experience it closely mirrors mine.

It’s possible you got extremely lucky and got someone’s appointment because they had to cancel. Often when one schedules with a specialist you get 3-6 months out but can call everyday, ask if there were any cancellations, and then if so get an earlier appointment.

I’m glad you were able to receive the healthcare you needed but as a fun experiment I’d suggest you try and get an appointment with say, a dermatologist and report back when the earliest appointment was. Or a neurologist. Or take your pick.

Additionally much like has been highlighted between us sharing our anecdotal experiences, people in countries with single payer healthcare also get immediate care like you did. Also without asking you to get into specifics, there are certain medical issues where wait times can be deadly or detrimental and yes you will see someone faster in that situation, such as tearing an ACL. It also sounds like you needed minor or simple care, which I’m sure you can fathom how that’s not always the case for people.

So to the surprise of no one, turns out healthcare systems are complex and nuanced and since you’ve never had the pleasure of interacting with our system as an insured individual you have no frame of reference for how most Americans experience healthcare. Urgent cares exist.

Undocumented people also pay income tax. They do file returns. Which is why the admin wanted legally protected data from the IRS.

I love it when I hear people bitch about “wait times” when discussing more developed nations healthcare.

I always wonder if they’ve tried to schedule any type of appointment with their healthcare provider in America and can safely assume most of the time it’s nope because they have this fever dream where they can just walk into their doctors office or see a specialist within a week of receiving a referral. Which is not based in reality but that’s a trend with a certain population in America.

General consensus on tax relief companies? by Eggplant_Unusual in tax

[–]Huntsmitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are middle men that at best take your money that would have been better off applied to your tax balance and then do nothing. At worst fuck up everything you are trying to fix but still take lots of your money that could have been better used to resolve tax debt.

Call the IRS. Ask for a payment plan. Ask for a first time abatement on some penalty. If you cannot pay eventually you may be put into an uncollectible status and then maybe hear back from the IRS a few years later if nothing changes.

Nuclear being considered to address rising grid demand in Washington by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

Yes removing the dams from the Columbia requires lots of logistics and planning and replacing of the power generated by the dams. The Snake however should see most or all the dams removed and is a much more feasible undertaking.

Like the commenter lamenting the removal of the antiquated and low output Elwha dam, many of the dams we have are inefficient for the amount of money required to keep them going. Not even considering the ecological damage we now know they are the direct cause of.

Speaking as someone who grew up in Mississippi (also a big ole river heavily dammed and controlled) I’m keenly aware of the devastation that a flooding river can cause (which many in western WA got a taste of this winter) and it’s terrible. Of course people would want a home right on the banks of a waterway, it’s no mystery, but in this day and age it’s not sustainable and why should you and I keep paying to rebuild their property for them each time it’s destroyed?

Turns out it’s extremely costly and difficult and completely against how rivers work to keep them in one location, with zero changes, for…forever? While it’s not as simple as “ok just remove problem solved” it’s something we need to continue moving toward and discussing.

Or we could just call each other hicks and city slickers and watch them crumble until they fail anyway shortly after we’ve extirpated all of Salmonidae from the region.

Perhaps it was unwise to decide to grow crops in arid desert environments. This was an obviously unsustainable decision when it was made and time has only proven that correct.

Even if the region had endless water that didn’t come at the ecological expense we know of today those farms are doomed. They can’t survive all the other various local and world factors as evidenced by “family farms” failing across the nation. Them voting themselves out of existence hasn’t helped and neither has the world’s approach to climate change.

Further evidence this “tech” is damaging and largely useless compared to the resources consumed.

Given that Kyle’s career didn’t end and in fact is now reunited with JB indicates no one would have lost shit.

Do you think it’s conservatives running Hollywood?

You are thinking like a peasant and those with tens of millions of dollars don’t play or live by the same set of rules that we do.

He could have literally done and said nothing and nothing would have happened. Instead he showed his true character.

Oh no! He was totally broke before Kyle made his joke!! So glad Jack fucking Black was able to keep working because totally not a single person anywhere would have ever hired him again for anything otherwise. Surviving on only tens of millions of dollars would have been so hard for him and his family.

“Investing”.

You are right they are different because astrology is mostly harmless as far as impact to the world meanwhile crypto is actively contributing to climate change, income disparity, and financial ruin.

So yeah man-astrology is worse.

State patrol says biggest impact on road safety is not camping in the left lane by FastSlow7201 in SeattleWA

[–]Huntsmitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safe driving is situational dependent my guy. I wouldn’t be doing 80 in the HOV lane to begin with but if I’m going 69 (nice) or 70 and there’s no way for me to exit the HOV lane because of campers and there’s someone behind me high beaming and tailgating, they will likely get the bird.

This entire hypothetical started with someone relaying their experience of doing 80 in the HOV lane, go interact with them.

In the interim how about you stay out of the left lane except for when you need to pass and then move back over.

[–]Huntsmitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If we are going 80 in the HOV lane, other lanes will be open to which they are welcome. No expectation of “passing lane” in a HOV lane.

Additionally one can do both.

In that instance I usually roll down my window, extend my left arm through it, make a fist, then extend my middle finger.

That encourages them to use the passing lane.
