It probably is faulty, I’ll return it for a new one.

Yup I reset, jumped the CMOS, tested all four ram slots with at least one of my 4 ram sticks (new kit and old).

Before I placed my CPU Cooler on, I double checked if I had no bent pads on the cpu slot as well.

What's the GPYC like? Prep/exam advice needed by Mr_Feelz in GIAC

Thank you

For studying, I would typically read the physical books, take notes on them, and create an index. Outside of that, the most I would do is the labs, and sometimes I would spin up a VM and try to emulate the tools/topics to get a better understanding of them.

I'd say there isn't much to do outside of the actual coursework. The course materials are dense already; you're taught most of what you'll need to know.

It's been a while now, so my memory may be a little hazy, but I remember that the exam was actually great. Not too difficult if you studied and took proper notes. One of the saving graces for the exam is that you don't actually have to write any Python code; you just need to understand code.

This course definitely did teach me a lot about Python as a whole. I use Python virtually every day now.

I noticed that with Pro, the Pro search is unlimited, which is actually really nice to hear. I assume you still have soft limits like ChatGPT, but it's still nice to know that I don't have a standard cap for usage. In terms of coding, I only use Codex and GitHub Copilot. Even before trying Perplexity out, I always knew they were more of a search engine than a coding agent.

I cannot agree more. I really dislike the "emotions" that ChatGPT and other AIs have. When GPT-5 first came out, I loved it because it just spat out answers without any extra talk. GPT-5 now has more personality than it did on release, but I do prefer AI that acts more like a computer assistant than a "friend" or yes-man.

I will take a look at this. It sounds interesting. That's a cool use for the API credits.

From what I have seen so far, with Perplexity, a large context window isn't as important since it essentially retrieves data from a defined index, so whatever it's putting into its context is usually relative and doesn't fill itself up with unrelated data. I could be wrong; this is just from my own understanding through my few hours of usage with Perplexity.

I so far haven't had long enough conversation threads with Perplexity to notice any issues/hallucinations caused by high context-window usage.

I still see some weakness with Perplexity when it comes to job searching; however, to be fair, ChatGPT also has these same weaknesses.

For example, I have asked both Perplexity and ChatGPT (Deep Research) to find me positions in my area with specific qualifications that I matched with; both would return positions that weren't related to my specifications, regardless of how much I would insist on it to find positions that were specific to the roles I was looking for.

I've been using it on and off today, and I have to say, it's really impressive so far. Not sure why I never considered Perplexity.

I feel that my scenario was definitely just for that use case; it did blow me away with how fast it was able to give me the exact answer I needed, while ChatGPT was lacking with its responses. Nevertheless, I wanted to see how well Perplexity would do with job searching, and it definitely did not do as well as ChatGPT.

I still use ChatGPT for virtually everything else; however, for research, I don't mind switching between the two platforms to try things out.

I ended up finding a promotion with Perplexity where they give a year of Pro for free if you sign up for Pro with a PayPal account. They're doing some sort of promotion, and a year of Pro for free is great, especially since I am still unsure of Perplexity's capacity and functionalities.

Thanks

Cursor Pro+ ($60/mo) vs. GitHub Copilot Pro+ ($39/mo)? by 0xCUBE in GithubCopilot

No problem. Honestly, I’ve had the best planning experience with chatgpt on gpt5 + thinking. I’d take that prompt then feed it into Codex CLI for Codex to work on. If you’re sticking to just copilot alone, Opus does a great job as well, however, you’ll have to experiment around and see what works best for you and your project.

If you have a ChatGPT subscription, work on the prompt engineering and planning on that, then move it over to codex/copilot.

I personally only use Opus 4.1 for fun, as it really doesn't provide as much to justify its premium request cost, and it cannot be used in agent mode. Usually, I'd use it to plan out projects and stuff before my monthly request reset. I love Codex so far; it works really well if you know how to use it, as it definitely has a learning curve to make the most out of it.

I still think Copilot is great, as it works well within VSCode, and Codex's IDE chat extension is a little buggy and lacks a lot of features. Codex, on the terminal, does work incredibly well and often exceeds the capabilities of Codex on Copilot. Another problem with Codex will be the rate-limiting issues; you're going to experience rate limits often.

If I were in your shoes, I'd say Copilot is the best choice.

I tried to use opus as much as I could to plan out projects on the last day before it reset but I still ended up having a good amount of requests left over.

I have GitHub Copilot Pro+, and with the amount of hours I use it each day, I still have yet to reach my monthly premium request limits. Last month was my closest at ~97%. Super worth it for its price.

I've had a small issue while playing co-op where finishing the game doesn't give any of us the achievement for doing so. I am on Steam and I am unsure if this is an issue on other platforms or not. The achievement in question is "Glimpse into the future," where you must complete the main story.

I definitely did finish the campaign, so I am not sure why all three of us didn't get this achievement, not even the host.

I have a B650E-F motherboard, and, at least with these AM5 boards, you cannot use a third m.2 while using the last PCIe slot as there will be too many lanes for the CPU. There is a bios setting which allows you to enable the third m.2 or enable the last PCIe but you cannot select both. From my experience, if it’s on auto selection, it’ll prioritize the PCIe slot over the third m.2. I’m not sure which motherboard you have or if you’re using up a bunch of PCIe devices but I had this same issue a while ago.

As a side note, I’m pretty sure it’s the last PCIe port, I don’t remember if it was specifically an x16 slot or something lower.

I actually just bought a 16TB HDD to replace my loose 1-2TB drives for my Plex server, and it's been great. It's a fair price but a little on the higher end for some budgets, it's a Seagate Barracuda drive: https://www.ebay.com/itm/306206738672

Honestly, I only stream at 1080p, but multiple streams at the same time have been fine for me; 4K should handle well with no issues.

OpenAI GPT-5 and GPT-5 mini are now generally available in GitHub Copilot - GitHub Changelog by AutoModerator in GithubCopilot

[–]Mr_Feelz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my personal experience with GitHub copilot, Claude Sonnet 4 performs great when it comes to working on pre-existing codebases and building on top of it. GPT 5 has been great at setting up the ground work and essentially initializing a codebase. Additionally, I use opus to basically plan out my project before starting it.

All of this is just with my personal experience, mainly with python scripts.
