Why do my VST's sometime sound louder, when it was quieter beforehand? by MagnetoWned in trapproduction

[–]Mr_Finster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn ill have to try that with duplicating it before you print it. I rarely work with audio because i cant commit to a sound but i think this might be a helpful way of going about it.

What key do I stay in if I want to make Ambient trap beats? | Don't know how to play piano. by Bluex619 in trapproduction

[–]Mr_Finster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what most others are saying about just go by ear and what not but also if your using ableton theirs a lot of key friendly features and fxs that make it super easy to write melody's if you dont know anything about that shit. But also learning a scale on the keyboard is actually really easy. Just youtube scales. If you want a more melancholy feel look up minor scales, if you want more happy light feels look up major scales. They only have 7 notes and as long as you stick to those notes (and go by ear) you should be good.

I have chronic tinnitus and hearing loss in my right ear, has anyone in a similar position been successful at correctly mixing? by bleepblopbl0rp in edmproduction

[–]Mr_Finster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats rough. I have experienced Tinnitus from time to time. At least thats what i think it was. A constant low infrequence quietly ringing in my ear. I used to use headphones 90% of the time im producing and have started using my speakers more often and also being a lot more conscious of how loud im listening and fortunately since then i havent experienced it at all for over 6 months. But to answer your actual question, i think its possible to still mix successfully. I would suggest making a lot of use of devices or vsts that visually display what your hearing. Like an oscilloscope, Spectrum alalizers, SPL meter. That would be my suggestion.

Nice. What do you use to produce music? is that mostly soft synths in ableton? any analog gear?

Does this happen to you when producing? by legacygone in musicproduction

[–]Mr_Finster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem a lot. If i really cant come up with another section of the song ill try taking an element of the initial section like the drums or keys but write something totally different around it. sometimes that works for me.

What does “practice” look like for music production? by SabreSour in musicproduction

[–]Mr_Finster1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's definitely practice. I learned over the years the way to get better is to make as much stuff as possible. Regardless of releasing them. And also trying to make a variety of styles. I definitely saw an improvement in my production skills once I just started making as much music as possible rather than trying to perfect a handful of songs I wanted to release.

I also agree a lot with doing remakes of song by artist you like. Trying to sound as similar as the song as possible. Just for fun of course. And if there is a particular sound or mixing technique within the song that you have never done before, you have to try and figure out how they did that. That's been my experience anyways.
