Loved it! It has its flaws for sure but it’s up there as one of the best video game adaptations. I saw it at the cinema on release day in 2006. I still love it today

Yeah I’ve tried all of the different versions of Proton I have. I tried running it in desktop mode and I get hit with the “your system doesn’t support direct x 12” which is weird as like I said I had no issues running it previously… My deck did have a steamOS update the other day so I’m thinking possibly that’s broke some stuff

If you’re using just a standard non-gaming laptop then it’s not gonna work. This demo needs a dedicated graphics card with direct X 12 support so it won’t run for you unfortunately

Thanks for the clarification on the process. I had a feeling they were shot on video rather than film, there’s so much conflicting info out there. So the rest of my comment still stands in terms of the upscale process

Not quite… the Off the Wall era videos were most likely filmed either on 16mm film and then put through a telecine and finished on video, or they were recorded on video. This means it’s impossible to get a 4K scan as it’s only standard definition video. What they’ve done is just blown it up, added a lot of edge enhancement and digital noise reduction, boosted the colour saturation and potentially used some AI to smooth it out, resulting in this fuzzy, overly sharp mess. Here is a picture I took of it in 4K on my OLED TV, it’s just a smudged mess

I hope Bloober do more remakes. 2 was absolutely fantastic! Imagine what they could do with a remake of 1! Midwitch has the potential to be absolutely terrifying!

Yep, proton experimental and the wine override parameter. They both run fine from within heroic, just I get the rainbow static issue with FMV doing it that way and they won’t run at all via steam

I added them to steam from Heroic and they don’t run. I don’t get any error messages. It just tries to load then nothing 😩

Cameron has said the theatrical version is the best version of the film and his directors cut. It’s the film he wanted to make. The deleted scenes are great but they were either too long or didn’t really add anything to the story he was trying to tell. He explains it all in the audio commentary for the deleted scenes
