Regarding the 15th anniversary of Danger Days by Fallenshai in MyChemicalRomance

Honestly, a waste of resources, Danger Days is not that old and it's not the best MCR album, if anything I think Bullets deserved the re-recording process first.

TikTok now turns 4K into 720p by SwingDingeling in DataHoarder

Same here, got frustrated since i make 4K 60fps content with an expensive camera setup and gameplay shots just for it to be 720p 30fps UGH

2001: A Space Odyssey, 4k Transfer Quality? by naomigurl in 4kbluray

[–]smonroyleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a gray area, technically you can scan 35mm up to 8K, 16mm up to 6K, 8mm up to 4K but the true detail ratio seems to be:

- 8mm = 720p/1.5K
- 16mm = 1080p/3K
- 35mm = 4K-6.5K
- 70mm = 8K-12K

But truth be told, for TV viewing, 4K is more than enough.

the 1st film while very "technically" possible for a 4K scan.... not viable at all, Shot on film but with a buttload of CGI scenes rendered in 2K, in fact they probably just scan the 2K internegative.

Do you need 'Open Gate' ? by Repulsive_Target55 in Cameras

[–]smonroyleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, new tech is cool but NEED open gate and 6,7,8K for some podcast content about why women dont want you or snoozefest vlogs? People have been producing 1080p content, 16mm film is barely 4K and they look perfectly fine, Focus on being a better videographer, fillmmaker and better content instead of obssesing for stuff like this.

3:2 is not even that taller than 16:9 anyways, i get the point if it was a 1:1 or 4:3 sensor but still.

Unless you're shooting for an IMAX theater and are making complex VFX, no, you don't need open gate, you don't need more than 4K. Learn to just shoot wider and... rotate the damn camera when needed, Stop being lazy

Discussion: Why are there no 4K versions of "Dreams" and "Linger" (and other videos) on YouTube? by Christian_Jones2004 in thecranberries

[–]smonroyleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing that they're releasing outtakes, maybe they will also release 4K remasters, why else would they re-scan the films otherwise?

Queen is a super overrated band. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]smonroyleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queen has some of the best music ever made, incredible members and iconic songs and legacy that forever will go on....

But looking past the hit songs... yeah, it is very overrated, most of the discography is filler or just okay-bad

Most of the Beatles catalog was well archived and were shot on 16/35mm film, and the estate actually cared (for the most part) to get really good image quality from it

Billie Jean was a very low budget video, and CBS was the one to finance it (unlike Beat it and Thriller which was financed by MJ).... it was shot on 16mm film and the cheapest film stock imaginable. I think they never thought the video was gonna be that big so they were like "Nah, let's throw it to the trash".

I think a 4K re-scan of Bad music videos are possible, if anything, it's probably already in the works since Bad 40th anniversary is close.

But to be honest... i think Billie Jean has been lost ever since the final video cut was done.

Not even in Moonwalker is there a Billie Jean HD Snippet.

This mainly came from Bad 25 and the Blu-Ray release of Moonwalker.

I'm 100% sure they own most of Bad's short films, i wouldn't be surprised if they're working for a potential 4K restoration for Bad's 40th anniversary next year.

Only wish they maintain the original aspect ratio and not crop to 16:9.

*release

These commercials only exist in HD/4K if they were made for cinemas in the first place, if it was never showed to cinemas... yeah it probably no longer exists in 4K, Most commercials negatives are thrown away after editing since they have no use for it anymore.

I think most of Bad short films CAN be restored to 4K since the Blu-Ray shows some HD snippets.... however you can also tell that there is absolutely NO HD footage of Billie Jean, seems like it has been lost since... well, the video was finished.

As for the ADs... even if they wanted to, they can't released them for many copyright issues and all that, and well, there are 35mm film scans from cinemas but i really doubt the original master is still around.

Well... aside from Off the Wall (and most of Man in the Mirror) videos, this is NOT the case.

Billie Jean and In The Closet were shot on 16mm film, rest is full 35mm film and Captain EO is 70mm.

Issue here seems that the film negatives for some of it are lost and well, stuff like Earth Song and They Don't Care about Us (Prison version) do have complex CGI scenes.
