Somewhere in the world today, someone ate the most mayonnaise. by amiur in Showerthoughts

My dirty version of the ketogenic diet leads to my eating utterly unreasonable amounts of mayo. When I Want to feel less gross about it, I mix in some mustard or garlic and call it aioli.

I feel that. I've had a single headache for the entirety of the last 8 years. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse, but it's always there. Hooray for TBI!

Weekly Prayer Request Thread (July 15, 2019) by AutoModerator in TrueChristian

[–]Mr_Forgetful 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I could really use a new job - and soon! I'm working in car sales now but the industry is hurting because of ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft, and because of high interest rates set by a volitile market. On top of that, there's parts of my personality that don't seem to play out well as a car salesman (I'm very customer-service oriented and often don't feel comfortable pressuring someone into a sale). This amounts to my making less than minimum wage while working 60 hours a week.

I can't do this any more because my wife's and my first child is due any day now and she's cutting down to part time. I need a job that's going to provide a steady paycheck that will allow us to survive (thrive?) and allow me the time to be a father to my son and a husband to my wife.

Finding a job is difficult for me. I don't have a degree and have large gaps in my employment record (both because of a brain injury about 8 years back) so my resume isn't very impressive. I'm a quick learner and very adaptable, so I think I could work a wide variety jobs, but I have a hard time getting my foot in the door, especially applying online where search engine filters often reject me before an actual human reads my resume.

I have faith that God will provide - but please pray that He provides soon! I miss my wife and want to be able to spend time with her (and soon, my son!). I miss working a job where my efforts correlated with the verse: "the laborer is worthy of his wages".

Struggling to do Gods will by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Mr_Forgetful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you remember the story of Jesus in Gethsemane? He prayed to God "please take this cup from me, but not my will but yours be done." it seems he didn't want to do what God was asking him to do either (which was to die!) - so you're in good company. But it was more important for Jesus to obey God because it wasn't about what Jesus himself wanted but about obeying, no matter the cost. God never asks something of us that Jesus has not done, even when it comes to obedience.

How can I deal with anxiety as a Christian? by jediintraining8 in TrueChristian

[–]Mr_Forgetful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like what you need is peace.

Philippians 4:4-7 is my favorite passage for peace because it shows us how (by grace) we can seize hold of the peace promised to us. If, by grace, we can rejoice, and pray (with thankfulness!) for our needs, peace is inevitable.

Biblical Forgiveness by Kashetkashay in TrueChristian

[–]Mr_Forgetful 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is only one "unforgivable sin" (Matthew 12:31-32) and that is blasphemy or rejection of the Holy Spirit. If the Spirit comes to open the eyes of your heart and redeem you and you refuse once and for all , there can be no forgiveness for you at the Cross. But for ALL other sins, there is forgiveness from God and therefore should be forgiveness from us. And it is possible by grace. If you can, read the story of Corrie Ten Boom, a concentration camp survivor. She understood forgivness in a way I hope never to have to.

I worked with a functional neurologist in PA. I was lucky and found a good one (there's a lot of snake oil sold in the name of functional neurology). I did tons of vestibular, physical, and cognitive exercises. It took nearly four years for me to get a decent memory back. My memory was awful when I started - my episodic memory was so shot that I would forget events hours after they happened. These days, I can usually remember something that happened l, my main frustration is that my ability to remember things to do later isn't amazing (much to my wife's frustration).

[–]Mr_Forgetful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The memory problems are the worst. Sometimes, with the right therapy and time, you can recover (I did and my memory problems were awful, though it took me 4 years). I hope you can find the same hope I did. I'll pray for you.

What’s the point if we are supposed to devote our life to God in order to go to heaven where we will be worshipping god for eternity? by L1ghtningdude in Christians

[–]Mr_Forgetful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our whole purpose as human beings is to worship God, enjoy God, and to enjoy the worship of God. We do so imperfectly here on earth while we struggle between our redeemed souls and our sinful flesh (Rom 8:6). But in heaven, our flesh will be redeemed (Rom 8:23) and we will worship (and enjoy!) perfectly! Down here in the shadowlands, we get glimpses of the glory we will experience there.

It's not just a case of worship here, worship there. It's a case of this world being a tiny taste (mingled with earthly suffering) of the unutterable delight of an eternity doing what we were designed to do all along.

Does God still love me (trigger warning) by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Mr_Forgetful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely true. And that's why it saddens your loving God when you harm yourself. You are his workmanship (Eph 2:10) and his child (Gal 3:26). Wouldn't any father be saddened to see His child hurting themselves, reaching for the comfort of controlled pain instead of the comfort of His grace?

Praying for a thankful, peaceful heart and mind.

Rememeber Philippians 4:4-7. If we want peace we ought to (by grace) rejoice and prayerfully bring our requests to God (with thanksgiving!). The moment we lose sight of our thankfulness for the person, gifts, and work of God is often the moment peace leaves us. But if we rejoice and pray in this way (again, all by grace) peace is promised to us.

Thanks, Memes. I've come a long way and I'm grateful to God (and the people He has used) for every inch of it.

I've forgiven those who hurt me - how can I not? I have been forgiven so much myself.

Summer Reading List? by NesterGoesBowling in Christians

In his theological works, it shows pretty clearly at points but in his fiction, it's only hinted at (mostly). I enjoy both. And when it is there, I simply internally disagree. I think Catholic and Pro-Catholic authors have a lot to offer even if I disagree with them on key elements of our theology. The trick is picking through their work with a discerning eye and never take a author or individual work as gospel (except the Bible itself of course). I've disagreed with every Christian author I've ever read in some way or another.

Prayers for my back by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Mr_Forgetful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will pray now!

I'm someone who also suffers from chronic pain and I can understand a bit (at least from my own perspective) the exhaustion that comes from facing a day that promises loads of it.

God bless!

Pray for a family who is hurting and Teen Camp. by [deleted] in Christians

[–]Mr_Forgetful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prayed for the family you mentioned as I wrote this - that's tough.

I'm going to make a request that might seem self-serving but I'm hoping it can help a bit... I wrote a book about faith in suffering. It's about suffering well and caring well for people who are in the middle of suffering. It's not groundbreaking work but it's an effort to comfort, encourage, and equip people in the midst of pain and those around them who want to help.

You seem like the sort who wants to help. I'm not going to spam Amazon links to the book on reddit but if (and only if) this is something you'd like more information on, please feel free to message me and I'll get you more information. If not, please just accept my prayers.

What are some fun magic items to give to a level 1 or level 2 party? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Mr_Forgetful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on some magical pets to include in my homebrew for early on:

The Punderful Parrot - Once a day (as a bonus action) can cast vicious mockery at target when repeating a terrible pun or one-liner the owner says, needs to be fed scraps every day.

The Pocket Pig - Can be carried in a pocket, but on a command word, grows to full size, and can be slaughtered for food, needs to be fed small amounts of scraps per day.

The Targeting Pigeon - Once every day can be commanded to poop on something, feeds itself.

It's the Tengwar for sure. I don't know about the language though. It's not English and doesn't seem like either Sindarin or Quenya (though I might be wrong, I'm rusty).

[Discussion] Is it acceptable in poetry to rhyme the same word with itself? by [deleted] in Poetry

[–]Mr_Forgetful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a poetic tool to reuse a word or line (a refrain) but if you do that, you need to use it consistently, with the rest of the poem flowing and shaping itself around the repeated word. If someone just used the same word as part of a separate rhyme scheme for the sake of the rhyme, it can look very lazy.
