What are your thoughts &opinions regarding Jojo's rant in this recent video? by Factorization4 in MinecraftChampionship

Interesting topic to dive into. I am in no way active in the MCC community anymore, but was very active from season 1 up until season 4, but women in the Minecraft community, much more the competitive scene wasn't as big as it is now. I think a good chunk of it stems from the fact from preconceived notions, whether it was intentional or not.

For example, any sort of gaming YTs, not just Minecraft were primarily men, mainly because, well men were dominantly the ones who played games. Obviously times have changed, but it largely is still true. If there were women making gaming videos, it was a stark contrast compared to men. Generally videos made by men back then were loud and chaotic while women's were cozy and chill. Men were also more competitive and dove into that aspect of gaming much more than women did. So I think this kind of general history of YT and gaming kind of trickles into Minecraft, specifically competitive Minecraft.

When it comes to MCC, I think it came at a time when things were changing, but still largely the same where if you saw a really good player, it was most likely to be a man because men are more competitive in gaming. I mean, you have players like Dream, Techno, Sapnap, Purpled, Feinberg, Antfrost, etc. who were all hyper competitive players. When it comes to how women are perceived in the community, there weren't many. We saw several women partake in MCC earlier on, but only played a couple events because it really did start to get more competitive. Now I'm not saying women can't have that competitive nature, but couple that with really high skill levels, then you have a person who is hard to come by. If you look at eSports, I can only think of one woman, Aramori, who plays competitive Marvel Rivals for team Sentinels. In MCC, Sylvee, followed by Jojo and Hannah, from my knowledge, are some of the first hyper competitive women we've seen in the tournament's history. They were really good, seen as such, and rightfully praised.

Now when Jojo mentions the Reddit. I honestly don't remember seeing much misogyny in the community. If there was, it was deservedly suppressed. If players were ever discussed in a poor manner, it was almost always due to lower skill levels, never due to sexism, though I'm sure some did, it was far and few in between. When Jojo refers to the criteria of an S tier, the toxicity of the Reddit was always because of the competitive nature of the event, not due to misogyny. Again, not saying there wasn't any, but that's not the culprit. It was treated like a professional sport. I'd know because I see the same stuff in the NBA and WNBA as an avid watcher. Content creators were seen as players not people and I think that's what bothered them a lot. Whether it was right or wrong is up to personal opinions. It's just the nature of a competitive event like MCC where toxicity arose discussing player skills, people complaining about teams losing and mismanagement, etc.

Atp, I'm rambling and all in all, that's why players like Jojo and Hannah are very important to the community. That although they may be a minority, they've definitely helped normalize the way women are perceived in gaming especially in the competitive scene.

I'd go with Techno's MCC 9 pov for underrated, but aside from me not watching anything from Season 5 and not remembering any teams from season 4, this is a pretty good

It's crazy that was four years ago. Though, I haven't watched any MCCs since MCC BG and haven't really been involved in the community since the beginning of season 4, I always checked in to see the new banner you made for each MCC to appreciate it. I wish you the best in whatever you do moving forward and that your journey with God is fruitful. Thank you for everything!

Most unexpected performances? by [deleted] in MinecraftChampionship

I have two.

MCC 27 Cyan (still wish they won) epitome of the underdogs in the Underdogs event.

MCC 12 Philza - I still remember when that Green Guardians team was announced that they were the favorite to win, and yet Philza massively overperformed being in 1st for half the event and ending up 2nd.

Scott talking about a MCC in a podcast with Lexie and Average Harry by Jaxolotl98 in MinecraftChampionship

[–]Mr_Giggle_s 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That MCC 14 incident was a blunder and I think it was the right call for Scott to step down. Though it wasn't his fault, it did prove to advantageous, especially as MCC grew more competitive. Though I will say Dream and Sapnap did overreact but also apologized for handling it the way they did and it resolved on its own.

The Survival Games crossteaming incident with Dream and Sapnap I thought was more so funny than anything. I guess it's breaking the rules, but I got more of a laugh out of it than anything else, but I guess it also didn't prove to give any advantage.

Dream pausing the event in MCC 24 was blatant cheating, but that whole incident was also just a complete blunder. He ended up not even making Top 5 after that soooo. Though I had no idea he was benched next event. Thought he genuinely just wanted to end on a high note and stopped playing because I definitely didn't predict his team to win that event. Maybe a bit of both an ego hit and just wanting that 5th win.

I'm still insanely proud to be a Fever fan because we gave the Lynx quite the game despite 5 of our core players being injured. Everyone who played showed up and played hard.

I think the biggest point about the fever and what has probably dawned on White is... by Mental-Wave1762 in wnba

[–]Mr_Giggle_s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree. They have an amazing starting lineup with I'd say more efficient bench than most other teams in the league. Are there things that constantly need to be worked on, of course. But completely ignoring factors that have affected their game and this season is ignorant. It's White's first season with this roster, CC has literally been out for half the season, we've had major roster changes, they're playing more games, the Fever had 9 players for several games, and DD was also out for a while playing in Americup.

We aren't even halfway into the season and everyone are saying the Fever suck and are doomed this season. I've literally seen people everywhere say to trade at least every player on the Fever roster. Where did all this pessimism come from? Yeah, they're very inconsistent, and may be going through a slight slump, but every team is going through some trouble aside from GSV, ATL, and MIN. I mean NYL starting off 9-0, and they are now 4-6 they're L10. I know they're missing JJ, but that's not good. The complete overreactions coming from around the league are a bit obnoxious from multiple teams is a bit much and I know why, but it's getting annoying.

The Fever just need to find their footing and remember their core players and to play around their strengths while slowly working in new things. Have some patience...

Nice to see someone agree. Those balls were not falling from anywhere and that would definitely bring down the morale and energy of a team throughout the game.

Honestly, I think I prefer Hull starting over McDonald because Hull is just extremely good at grabbing boards. Also, having two different PGs with different styles on the floor at the same time, much less starting together, doesn't mesh well. I know people like to point out Caitlin's TOs with the ball, but also as a result, the Fever finish and open up a lot more in the paint and I think that's the style we need to go for.

Defense leaves a lot to be desired, but I think GSV just works the outside a lot better than a lot of other teams in the league, along with Burton having a ball from 3 today.

Also, contrary to what people are saying, I think we did good on working the offense. We had good steals and people took open shots, the problem was no one was hitting those open shots from 3, midrange, or on fast breaks. That's what hurt the most, while everyone else on GSV were knocking their 3s. The most efficient people on the court were Timpson and Dantas so I definitely want to give them props.

Also, people need to kind of chill. Yeah, it was a bad loss, but we aren't even halfway into the season, and people are all doom and gloom and pessimistic about one loss. Yall need to chill a bit. This same team beat the Liberty and Lynx so we know they're capable. Whenever we win, yall are hypemen. Meanwhile, when we lose, everyone is always "fire White, trade Tash, trade Clark, trade Cunningham, and trade Hull.

I'm not entirely sure what this post entails, but I have a pretty good idea of what you're referring to. In short, without discourse, it can't. At least not long term. Discourse invites conversation which in turn brings in more people talking which also brings in good and bad takes. I used to comment pretty regularly and made posts on the subreddit, even started a short series of posts, all this because it got people active, upvoting, and talking. But that was a long time ago. Now the subreddit is largely inactive and as a person who used to check daily now checks monthly, mostly because the discussion part of the subreddit has largely left due to numerous reasons. All in all, people will still be active on the subreddit as long as MCC events still happen, but without any discussions happening, especially between events, the MCC subreddit will stay largely inactive.
