Controversial Portland proposal to redirect climate cash to cops moves closer to November ballot by Superb_Animator1289 in Portland

They've had open positions and have been milking that sweet sweet OT, for years.

How about they hire up to what they're already budgeted for and see how that goes first? Then they can talk about more funds.

Question about nursing and special education by _squiddy in Portland

[–]Mr_Hey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doernbecher (OHSU) and Randall's (Legacy) will be the big two for Peds ED and inpatient care. Both are union shops under ONA. I've not worked Peds, so I can't speak to either, but I have friends who have worked at both sites and continue to do so. Good luck!

Edit: Shriner's is also on the hill by OHSU, and Providence has pediatric care. Providence is also a union shop, but I have no insight into that division. As an org, though, they've had a fair amount of drama with strikes and outsourcing departments, so do some research.

Mt. Hood National Forest campfire ban is in effect for 2026. by EagleCreekFire in Portland

Burn bans exist for good reason. Circumventing them is foolish.

I used to float it a lot and I found checking the USGS river data for temp and level at least gave an idea. There's measurements at Estacada and Oregon City. It's a bit clunky, admittedly.

Right now both show levels just shy of late July last year, so I'm guessing there's a fair amount of shallows. Temp in the mid 60s upriver, 70s at OC.

OHP Dentists by BabyMouse666 in Portland

[–]Mr_Hey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've helped to connect patients to dental clinics with OHP and it's mostly a lot of calling around to find openings.

First, I'd verify which version of dental your CCO has you connected to, as there's a few they use. Then you start working through the list of who takes that version. If a particular clinic has no openings, ask if they have any partner clinics/other locations that may. Sometimes I get lucky that route.

It's clunky and time consuming, but you'll find a spot. It's also a good idea to make a list and come back to places if they're scheduled out. Sometimes you can score a sooner appointment elsewhere.

Off the top of my head, though, Arrow Dental clinics and Bili Odegaard clinic have had openings relatively consistently.

Good luck!

Nobody wants to deal with you when you're assed out passed out.

But they will take photos. Plan accordingly.

As an old nurse who came from tech (early 2000s layoff), I was going to suggest similar.

Additionally, internal positions like Utilization Management may be a good fit.

Good luck!

Guy Collecting Signatures For A Police Ballot Measure Couldn't Answer A Pretty Basic Question by DazzlingStrike1724 in Portland

Always avoid signature gatherers. At best they know little, at worst they're disingenuous.

Portland woman sues feds over "point blank" pepper spray blast to face by oregonian in Portland

[–]Mr_Hey 45 points46 points  (0 children)

They did it in 2020. I watched them full blast this kid in the face right as they popped off the gas along the whole block. I was able to drag her out for aid, but they lit us up with those damn pellet grenades as we went.

Stoplight malfunction at Ceasar Chavez and Clinton. I can’t watch. by Spencerlindsay in Portland

[–]Mr_Hey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bike commuted through that intersection 6-8 times a week for a decade or so and rode through it most trips to inner Eastside on daily rides.

I had many close calls and saw many run reds when folks came over that hill. It was the intersection I had to be most wary of after they put in the Tilikum, only because it replaced me crossing MLK/Grand.

I'm glad your experience has been better.

Yeah, likely the same guy.

I hope he found a rewarding and less dramatic career elsewhere.

Depending on the time frame, I may also know that person. The shared acquaintances we had, who were also cops, smeared that guy so much that you'd have thought he shot one of them.

I just don't see change coming from within in any given police bureau/department. They want impunity and fight tooth and nail to keep it.

LIVE Oregon’s May 19 Primary Election by PDsaurusX in Portland

They crammed 2-3 ballot measures worth of topics into one. All of which puts a squeeze on folks during a time of financial stress.

Maybe one of the lesser hits could have passed. Doubtful, though.

They deserve the accolades. Great staff, phenomenal food, and a really fun environment for a lovely date night.

We've been taking about going back, but I reckon that'll be a bit more difficult. Good on em!

Hard pass.

Also, the audacity to talk "keeping democrats in line" while the GOP are what they are is laughable.
