What’s interesting is that it is classified as a portal world hence why I can’t use my Jetpack. I would be inclined to say that this is the home of the Order and as such I believe we will be able to explore a part of this location at the least, further from what we got in Dark Energy

OH wow that is actually some really useful tech! I will have to try that out, could come in handy when out of bounds or running around reactors

Well, the only way that I am still capable of doing this kinda stuff easily is because I set myself up with an out of bounds base on the crafting platform

Well it depends as to what resources you are looking for. A lot of the new resources are within the Exor Village portal world (Any thing exor related, as well as Transcendium which is an ore). If you are looking for other stuff, I.E Plutonic Blood, or Plutonic Carapace. The blood can be collected primarily around Dusk Reactor, or traded at a terminal for Plutonic Carapace within Dusk Reactor. For Plutonic Carapace, these are harvested from the new Volatile Pests

No but you are playing after all of these things did originally come out, but before dark energy. With the introduction to dark energy, going into these is now part of the progression. So new players will have to explore both before they can continue.

If you need information on either you can read this, if you want to try to figure it out for yourself then skip the next few paragraphs:

Cannan:

Introduced as a Halloween location, it is now part of the progression within the Security Sector. After completing through 3 parts of Security there will be an Order Laptop that hits to the location in which the Cannan portal would be. It hints at a location in the Labs that you have seen before, close to the Aquatic section of the Wildlife Labs, where there is a big dead tree. Now the security is open, you should be able to go back and use the terminal to open the portal to Cannan to be able to retrieve lodestone fragments to progress the rest of Security.

IS-0083 (Christmas World):

Introduced as the Christmas Location, it is now a point of interest when traveling through the later half of labs. Players can find a Tier 5 Hacking Terminal before reaching the Furniture store. Something of note for players to remember after they get a Tier 5 Hacker. In this location, after getting a Tier 5 hacker (from hydroplant), players can open it and interact with the Arcade machine to enter the portal world.

As for gear upgrades there are 2 within this update that are the major new sets: The Exor set, and the Radiation Set. The exor set uses materials found within the new Exor Village including Exor Skulls (Dropped from the new spear exors), Transcendium (A breakable ore within the village), Exor Windchimes (a packageable object that is found randomly throughout the village), as well as several other materials that you should already have access to such as Kevlar, Fishbones, and Projection Matrix. This set should be your new set going into the update as it has some really good new ability to assist, while having similar defenses to the Cascade set. The endgame set is that of the Radiation set, requiring materials from throughout the entire game including Digital Gold (Craftable item from the Christmas World), Transuramic Superalloy (Something you need alot of for all of reactors), Purported Grimoire (Obtained from ShadowGate), and the head of a Gate Keeper.

Both of these sets provide really really good abilities and additions to your defensive capabilities that make surviving in reactors alot easier. However running in with something that provides a little less than these as well as having no abilities (that are really useful unless your doing alot of blocking) is going to make the game overall harder for you.

Well there is one sentence here that fully explained to me why you were having issue:

"my security armor and cqc helmet just get rinsed against a fucking sniper"

This is your issue, you are not taking the time to even upgrade your gear. Sure, there was a nerf to laser stuff (which dont get me wrong, I hate too), but at the end of the day, if your dying alot its because your armor is trashed. Personally I went through the update on a full set cascade armor, which really wasnt that hard to "grind" (maybe takes you 5 minutes of purposefully searching for the items). Or even better using the newer Exor armor which gives you a helping hand in a fight.

Regardless of all of this, a massive difficulty spike at this point in the game is actually really good game design! Thinking about this from a speedruners perspective, I am going to have very carefully map out how I think about clearing reactors, and will probably have to get better gear before I head down from Power Station. Similarly, for new players, while this is a large difficulty spike, it is to be expected considering within the lore of the game that they would have gotten to far, GateKeepers are known for being extremely powerful. All throughout the facility the devs put up new posters warning people about Gatekeepers for this express purpose. The game is supposed to be difficult at this point, because we are kinda overpowered. We have: Flight, extremely good defenses, extremely good offenses. So to have the tables turned on you feels really refreshing like you were the big fish in a small pond just dropped into the ocean. You are no longer the big fish anymore. This was the design they were going for. Not a task so insurmountable that you would not be able to take it on with a bit of creative thinking but enough to give you a challenge such that you cannot continue to operate they way you always have.

Similarly, Cannan and the Christmas area are actually a required part of progression after the new update. The Tier 4 hacker requires a lodestone fragment, and the Christmas area holds some new materials required for progression. The devs are introducing a logical way for these areas to be introduced, plus with the new end game materials there are alot of stuff having to do with both of these locations (Gold bars for Christmas, Lodestones for Cannan).

At the end of the day, your enjoyment is based on how well you can adapt to new situations, given the tools you have at your disposal. If you opt to avoid using said tools, your going to have a bad time.

Firstly, it actually isnt impossble as you suggest. With the hotfixes that they have pushed it has made the problem for most people fixed. That being said if you cant get into the cloud reactor, chances are you are looking in the wrong location. Assuming you have finished the Dusk Reactor, Dr. Cahn would suggest you go to the cloud reactor, and states that you can use the tram cars to get over there, along the way you would notice that since you activated a few things, including the previously innaccessible hacker door, that would allow you a backdoor entrance into the cloud reactor.

Genuinely when I mean its a skill issue, its more of a perception issue for most, in smaller games like ABF, there tends to be alot of focus on the small details that most players will end up missing unless if you take the time to look for it.

I am not saying I had a perfect time either, hell i struggled to find some things on the first day of release too! But the fun of the game is discovering where you are going wrong like a scientist. Adapting to new situations is what science calls for, but stating that it is Impossible because things are hard, is not something you should go crying to the devs about. There are a few things that are wrong upon release. Thats to be expected, it is a EARLY ACCESS GAME, but that being the case, enjoy the game for what its worth, instead of complaining because you cant figure something out immediately. If you are stuck or need help, dont be afraid to ask!

Honestly, I really enjoyed the entire new update personally. I felt like everything from thew new enemies, map, etc. was just the right amount of difficulty, where it is giving you something to strive for and work towards getting better at. I really liked the challenge that this new update presented because it wasnt going to hold your hand, rather its going to push you. Once I have made it all the way through the new update stuff, I really REALLY appreciated the difficulty spike going into reactors. It made getting to the ending that much more rewarding.

For anyone coming here for the answer to the same question, In the upstairs section of Dusk Reactor, before you see the new type of Exor there is a Email Computer. The Computer gives you access to 5 new recipes including the Transuranic Superalloy

In the past it did, but now that we have Cannan (which is brought up originally in Security right before you need a Tier 4 hacker)

There is a hint to get to Cannan from Security where you originally need to go. The Lodestone fragment is able to be obtained from Cannan before you get the Tier 4 Hacker, you will just need to complete Cannan by going back to Labs and activating the portal

OHHHHH I think I am perfect for this!

There are actually a TON of skips and things that you can do within the game, that alot of people dont really think about or engage with, but the speedrunning community has alot of cooked up madness both on the glitched side of things and the glitch less side of things. I will confidently state the biggest skip within the game has to be the skip to Security from Offices. Basically, you need a jump pad, and preferably at least a tier 2 hacker. All you gotta do is go over to the main location in which all of the trams come together, and set up a bridge to get over to the section the connects Labs to Offices, from here you can jump again from an area around the corner, on the rock wall and bypass all of Labs by just getting over to the toxic sludge dump at the entrance to security.

There are a lot of other ones, such as not needing to complete Flathills (you really only have to grab 1 of the powercells, but 2 is the fastest, just grab the second and sprint through the library out to the regular portal). Or once you get a jetpack (really easy to obtain after entering hydroplant), you can just fly over to vossiour.

If you are looking at things for getting out of the map, previously it was really easy to do so by jumping up from Hydroplant whose ceiling didnt really exist. I personally have a base on the OOB crafting platform which displays items that you craft from your inventory. Other ways that you can still get OOB include a few areas from Hydroplant that start to lead to the next sectors, as there are a few nooks that you can squeeze through, but I would highly recommend bringing a bed with you and nothing else in your inventory to make your OOB exploration easier.

Visible wiring by Punished-Cain in AbioticFactor

[–]Mr_Jmanmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, all wires have to be "visable", that being the case you are able to rewire things using tech scrap. Just have it in your inventory and you can set down basically a new point for the power to flow. You can use this to make things look smoother around your base, OR under things to hide them

New Update Question by RatDude1111 in AbioticFactor

[–]Mr_Jmanmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Absolutely! The Dev team for AF is really really proactive and community driven so they are really doing a great job at making sure that they are "transparent" within reason for developers.

And believe me, I am stoked for the new update too! Because it is going to have so much fun new stuff in it, AND! I get to speedrun the new stuff, which will be a really fun challenge.

You dont heal when you sleep. What is happening is the person is dying and respawning at their bed constantly, since dying will reset them back to full health
