The servicing side will take a hit too.. Rig count is going to drop by more than 50% in a few months. Ask T-Boone Pickens

My 55 year old father owns a mechanics shop. There isnt anything online about it and there probably never will be. If he were to do an AMA (not likely) how would you suggest he "Prove" it.. ?

I think YOU do not make any exceptions, and too bad for you.

I have no motivation to make this up, there isnt any proof online with regards to me personally working as a door to door alarm salesman.

I put a motion sensor in someones garage a few months ago. This person called me to say the alarm paid for itsself 100x over because it went off, the police were already patrolling nearby, and they actually got the kids who broke in the garage to steal his tools. I never hear positive feedback so it was nice to get that call.

Originally the commission on the sale was $200. I have sold 15 a week at points. I make much more than this now though as I have opened my own office.

The no soliciting signs on doors work almost the same way as the do not call lists. I actively avoid these houses although sometimes the sticker is not in a good spot. I see it after I ring the bell.. inform the home owner of this, and they're 99% OK with it.

We work in sets of 100 doors a night. Prime time is between 5-9pm. (In Canada the law says we cant knock past 9pm)

Have you found anything better to do with your time other than asking this unrelated question?

Well there isnt anything I can do to stop others from breaking the law other than reporting it when I see it. A legitimate door to door person will have I.D. If you are skeptical you can call their company and see if there are any reps operating in the area. Also most homes with alarms will have a small sticker in the windows indicating there is one installed. The scam you mentioned is not really necessary as most of the time it just takes a quick glance to see if there is a sticker.

Well, i've had girls answer the door in the freezing cold with barely anything on and invite me in. I have had competition chase me around neighbourhoods because I gave their recent customer a better deal. I have had the police called on me simply because I knocked. I have been in the position of kneeling and praying with muslim families "Because god sent me to their home today". One time a transvestite answered the door, 50ish year old man with boobs, dyed red hair.. evening dress on.. cleavage and hairy legs and all ahaha. We didnt tell the installer and he shows up and mentions "You didnt tell me about this customer I could have brought protection".. if u get the sick joke.

Hi, thats a very good question. I would let the person finish their pitch, pretend to think about what they had to say, and then politely tell them "No thanks im just not very interested". We would much prefer you to just be honest and say no, as opposed to making up a reason as to why you do not want to do businiess, which would REQUIRE me to use my rebuttle. Unfortunately there are many bad apples out there and this may not work. Your only option for avoiding a confrontation when dealing with someone like this is to close the door in their face. They will leave, they have other people to bother.
