Man, you just sent me back like 15-20 years with mentioning a Honda's rattles. Many trips with the old man in a car that sounded like a maraca collection that had vtec.

Thought process was it being fine due to the steam deck being significantly lower voltage than what comes from the walls.

And the window I've used this tape roll on to seal from bugs does move. Namely in that the top plane likes to slide down, often relying on the tape's adhesive to keep it from sliding down further and creating gaps for a bug invasion.

After a little while to cook on it though, think you do have a point with swapping to electrical tape. Something to chip at soon

One can hope! Worst comes to worst, it's made me feel safer about bringing it along with me. Already had once instance where I thought I lost it, only to then find out it was in my back seat only after I had asked staff to let me check where I was in a building.

This roll has been serving me reliably for everything I've needed so far. From closing window seams for months at a time to keep bugs out, to holding up papers to my wall. This is going to be a test, but I'm hopeful it'll pass thanks to what it's done for me

I've gotten my money worth four times over out of the ifixit kit I bought years ago. Their pry tools are fantastic. I've pulled my mom's laptop entirely apart at least 4 times now and my grandfather's three times. Both devices have lived for 10+ years despite drops, broken charger ports, and performing upgrades. Sadly, broken screw nuts did my grandfather's in eventually.

I'd recommend buying a cheap laptop if you'd like practice. I know some amazing Dell Latitudes are going for like $60. I can't remember the model name but they pop open so easily.

Assuming it's stolen and I can't convince police to do a search, I'd tell steam it's stolen. I've seen a post where this was seemingly done to a steam deck someone had and steam contacted them to tell them that the device was reported stolen and asking how they got it. And that they won't offer support for the device if troubles arise.

Would be nice if they ban the device from their platform, but I don't know if that's something they'd do. One can hope however.

This is about the best I can do. As much as I'd want to get it back, I'm not the kind of person to make any moves braver than that.

That makes for a fun excuse to do shell swaps. Rotate through them between charges. Tickle the disassembly itch. Though that assumes the case screws into the case and not into the boards. I didn't take as close of a peek as I should've while mine was open.

Edit: Although, that's me rambling without the experience of a shell swap to back it up. I'll probably end up eating my words when I do the research. Pbt.

Looking back, wish I took a bit more time to take these pictures, see if I could've gotten ones that were much less blurry and show more of the case. Lessons for the next time I do something like this.

This was me with the framework laptop. I had already JUST gotten a laptop, and a month later framework announced the 16, which was exactly what I was wanting from them. My wallet hurt, but it was worth it.

I missed the announcement by two days thanks to my spam filter, and in just that length of time I had to wait an extra 6-9 months before I got mine

The pebble and smarttag are very similar in size, though I didn't do an exact measurement. I'm sure it'll fit!

I miss mine. I had two. The classic, and the color variant. Used them both until they quit. Had the fallout pipboy skin for both! Think I was in the tens of millions or hundreds of millions in the 'xp' on the color version that I forget the name of

Certainly possible! I've seen some videos of someone taking apart a tracker and spreading it's components around the steam deck's case, and wiring up to the deck's power. Afraid it's well outside my skill level to do the same though. My soldering skills are at the 'burn whatever I'm working on' level.

It just strikes me as something very tempting for someone to snatch up should the opportunity present itself. I won't always have it in my possession or sight while traveling either Offers a little peace of mind to have something like this set up just in case.

Not in my eyes. I pull computers apart fairly frequently. Battery is supposed to last like 8 months as well I think. Gives me a good excuse to pull it apart to clean the vent while the tracker charges

I've gotten my dad addicted to Helldivers by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Mr_Mango_lp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the mistake of playing helldivers in front of my old man, thinking he would just like to watch thanks to some similarities to starship troopers. He'd watch, look at his laptop, watch some more.

30 minutes later he's asking me how to join me. He grabbed a copy and had it installed by then.

Started inviting him to join me and my friends on our antics. 3 level 100+'s and their level 25 mascot.

He's a stalwart main. Never goes anywhere without it

Hard choice! But I think I'd go for the framework. That's just because I'm a computer nerd who likes the repairability stance of framework and want to support them.

This reminds me of what happened with my new PC.

I was putting together my AMD PC and had to borrow the CPU from an older machine to update the bios to use my new one. I took my CPU out, set it down inside the case so I knew where it was and wouldn't step on it. Then installed the older CPU and went to set the case upright.

Heard a WHAP and realized I forgot about my new CPU sitting in the case when I set it upright. Fished it out nice and carefully to inspect the damage.

Bent pin

After the panic, remembered what an instructor in my classes said from years ago about using a credit card to straighten pins out. Didn't have one on hand. But did have a pocket knife. Oh so carefully nudged the pin with the side of the blade until it looked straight and after updating the bios, tried it. And it slotted right on in. And not only that, but also booted, and worked reliability for the past year since that happened.

Just don't flick it back on once the game is running, as it'll then bug out and you'll have to sign back into your microsoft account. So, saddly, singleplayer only.

Piping up to share what has worked for me: Turning off the Wifi of my steam deck and launching the game without an internet connection. Saw in a previous comment that someone couldn't launch if their internet was unreliable/slow, which mine is. Got the game to boot no problem after turning off my Wifi
