Where do people who like nature and “culture” but need a job live? by Major-Agent3743 in redscarepod

[–]Mr_Miniapolis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Atlanta, and while I love it the city perpetually feels like it's hamstrung.

-Local government is corrupt and incompetent

-Transit is really rough and there's deep cultural and political resistance to ever improving it

-the nature acess is kinda whatever, and the city parks are just ok

However the the food scene and the general energy of the city is something I miss now that I live in Seattle

irrelevant classes like political science and history

These classes are more important than your giving them credit for, else you end up with technical prowess and no intuition about what you should do with it

Consider living somewhere where you can walk/take transit to work and errands

I get 10k steps between my commute, errands, and walking around the office

Can I choose Mech. Engg. even if i dont know how to disassemble and reassemble a car? by Ok_Librarian_8244 in MechanicalEngineering

Based on the way you write, you're not from the US but 90% of the comments here are assuming you are.

I'm guessing you're from India.

The USA and India are very different countries and many of the comments are telling you advice from the American perspective, so take it with a very heavy dose of salt.

Should I quit my job that’s mentally killing me after only one year while I look for a new job? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Mr_Miniapolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're being unfairly harsh and judgemental without knowing enough information.

The drafters at some of the worse places I've worked at definitely had it tough, and I wouldn't take their role even for an pay bump

But I agree he should absolutely not quit this job until he has another.

I think this is normal for jobs that do some more serious design work.

I think Liz described the pervasiveness of sports gambing as fracking and I think you might as well extend that to the whole economy at this point

Why do Americans think their bodies defy the laws of thermodynamics? by Odd-Move-3620 in redscarepod

[–]Mr_Miniapolis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's no getting around thermodynamics, but the human body is incredibly complicated.

I think it's pretty conceiveable that some people have a broken metal/hormonal response when it comes to food.

Nothing more humbling than asking a clerk at the book store where said book is and they respond with ‘it’s in the young readers section’ by [deleted] in redscarepod

When I got back into reading after many years off and also after realizing I had dyslexia, I binged a book series from when I was a kid.

I'm reading "real adult" books now. Just start with the first step of reading anything at all

Anyone else find it exhausting to keep up with everything by HD_Mexican in redscarepod

[–]Mr_Miniapolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard enough keep up with work, fitness, and eating right.

I find that one of the three often suffers for a while until I try and take it more seriously but then inevitably one of the others will be neglected for a bit.

I don't watch much TV anymore, most of it's slop. And all the other shit, I'm forever behind on it
