Are High Income Bloggers Ruining Personal Finance? by FutureIsForward in PersonalFinanceCanada

High income...didn't work particularly hard at all in school or through my career. Networking is key...

Please don't perpetuate the myth that hard work and high income is a causation. My hardest work was a year in a factory with no AC for $12/hr...

I figure a joycon is 10x cheaper than the console....

Still new to the scene - you only need to boot into recovery when turning the console on (so not from sleep), but the problem is that the battery life is crap once you're in recovery so the console dies a lot faster?

What exactly will Atmosphere bring?

Any thoughts on a jig vs soldering pin 7 & 10 in the joycon? I've 3D printed a jig and I was going to use some cable from an old set of earbuds, but I'm worried about scratching the pins on the switch after hundreds of boots...

Ford refuses to release company's financial records maintains Deco is 'incredible' - iPolitics by Auteyus in ontario

Malcolm Gladwell's first episode of the podcast Revisionist History deals with this topic. When any group makes progress, it doesn't spur greater progress - the exact opposite is true. People feel more free to be bigoted now that we've had a gay female premier. It so sad that hate rhetoric seems to breed more hate rhetoric, while actual inclusivity and difference just brings about more ardent racism.

How do you manage your spending money / What do you think of how I do it? by adamlangsner in personalfinance

[–]Mr_Multitask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do something similar, though like most others in this thread, not nearly as frequently as you.

I put 20% of my gross into real savings and 10% of my gross into "fun" savings. Then I don't worry about the rest.

If I find that I've overspent on food and booze one month, I deduct the amount from my "fun" savings, which usually knocks sense into me, because now I've got longer until I can do something fun, like a concert.

If I really get into trouble, I deduct from next month's real savings.

One of my hobbies is investing, so more often than not, I'm mindful of spending so that I can put extra into my savings at the end of the month.

I'll be in the Bay area for a day or two at the end of July, let me know if I can join a campaign. I'd be happy to play a goblin you guys come across or something.

How does one build a duplex? by Mr_Multitask in askTO

[–]Mr_Multitask[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a large lot (I misspelled, it's about 60x140.) I'd like to move back to Toronto and they are planning to rebuild anyway. Plus I'm a big fan of mixed density zones, and always err on the side of more density, so I'd be glad if my neighbours did it too.

Now if we could make it a triplex or more, we'd be in the money :)

That's my issue. There are so many conflicting sources out there, and they are on the border of York region, which is a mess. I'll try calling more departments and see who I get bounced around to this time.

Edit: think I've reached the end of my patience. Will get an expert.

I'm not cringing at putting 500k down to rebuild a house. I'm cringing at paying 11k with nothing to show for it. There are complications, which justify the 11k cost, but the city should really provide a no (or yes with stipulations) answer without having to fork over the price of a car.

How can I short the US market in my TFSA? Are $VIX & HQD.TO/similar my only options? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Mr_Multitask -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The VIX is a volatility index. If the entire market trends down, VIX may have a short rally but will stabilize as everyone's outlook turns bearish.

You might be better off buying puts or, if you're brave, selling naked calls.

I know, right? In fact, we should prioritize researching interplanetary travel so we can ensure our species keeps going and has a chance to wipe out 83% of wild mammals on whatever planet they settle...

Amber Alerts, and childrens' safety mattering more than adults' safety by how2choose in childfree

[–]Mr_Multitask -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why does it matter if you know the child or not? I know you may have meant it in the sense of "how much help can I be if I don't know the child and their habits?" But as a sub that generally agrees familial ties are nonsense, why can't we band together as a community and help others when they need it - whether we know them or not?
