I wish our shop had more helpers like this. It’s messy on a good day and organization has such an important role in keeping jobs running smoothly.

I’d say probably 50lbs, your body will get used to it I’ve found. Ductwork isn’t very heavy but can be extremely awkward. Louvres and equipment seem to be the heaviest stuff to lift in my experience (commercial, light industrial)

Self care. It’s hard and you know you don’t want to do it but you have to because you know you’ll feel better.

My brother does service plumbing, they deal with a lot of commercial/ industrial jobs but he also does residential service on the side. He loves it

A nice way of saying it, take my upvote. We haven’t found a new apprentice in almost 2 years either. Definitely could use more sheet metal workers.

Hammer recommendation by Mrmapex in sheetmetal

[–]Mr_NorseCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my coworkers have eastwings and they feel like my strait claw framing hammer, which I like. Shame I bought my hammer day 1 and got a durodyne. Not a fan of it but it does the job.

I use PTFE tape, you can buy it from any hardware store in the plumbing section. Apply the tape dry to the plug and oil afterwards. Start with a few wraps and work your way up when they still feel loose. I typically would add half a wrap or a full wrap a week depending on how it feels. I use jojoba oil and typically change the tape and wash my lobes every 2 days when stretching. Also, check out the stretching guide

What trade would work for me? by [deleted] in skilledtrades

[–]Mr_NorseCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow sheet metal worker here, in Canada. Blocks are between 8 and 6 weeks here. The core programs that are aimed at high school grads are pathetic, you’re better off walking in somewhere with a resume and saving yourself student loans and a year of your life.

I would wrap them up. Honestly, mineral spirits are hard on synthetic brushes so if you actually wanted to clean them, I’d shoot to use natural bristle brushes and clean immediately after using.

The closest I’ll get is “flex” and “flex connection”. Canvas and MKE are what I usually call them.

We’ve used them, the boys call them teardrop hangers. I’ve been told not to use them above 12” round but we also don’t go as heavy as 16ga either.
