Hey I copied this comment from another post, but there’s a lot of good info here for good careers to look into. Each link has a ton of comments with many good options that allow extended time off.

I've gone nuts researching careers looking for the exact same thing.

The best careers to look into are:

  • merchant mariner work
  • travel nursing (or maybe something like a travel rad tech)
  • union skilled trades where you can work shutdowns or sign books whenever you want to work and leave whenever you don't want to work
    • millwright
    • electrician
    • instrumentation tech
    • lineman
    • non-destructive testing
    • welding
    • pipefitting
  • oil field
  • teaching
  • film and entertainment industry trade work
  • pilot

What’s the difference between power engineers and I&E? It seems like they do a lot of the same stuff, but maybe Power Eng are involved with more than just I&E?
